so you are saying top women pros wont dominate an amateur tour??????

All anyone needs to do is take a look who won just about all the Florida Spirit Tournaments the last five years to see if the pro's doninate or not. But that's what all the members of the tour want...to match up with pro's. Johnnyt

point taken but this tourney was a kings bay amateur tourney that does not allow pros or top regional players.

i think thats the viking tour

You're right, just spent a decent amount of time on their website and it's a flat rate. Her name doesn't appear on the exempt list on this page: http://www.kbpbilliardtour.com/exempt.asp

Not yet at least.

The guys at the pool hall were joking around after I played against her, she played well and beat everyone before me but played horribly in our match. They said it was because she had the hots for me, man I wish it were true.

If you are a pro in another country, does that automatically make you a pro here? (not trying to start the "what constitutes professional status" arguement again.... just trying to figure out how all this works)

I wasn't arguing with you... I was just wondering is she considered a pro by US standards? (whatever US standards are) She doesn't play on the WPBA Tour, right?

A few years ago, Billy Ussery played on the KBP Tour. He led the point standings (obviously) and was added to the exempt list. The next year, Brian Davalos was added to the list. Last year it was Jeremy Bell (Instroke75).

I have spoken to Kay Higgins about this in the past, and it comes down to the fact that if it is obvious that you are playing a few levels above the rest of the field (and this is strictly an AMATEUR tour), then your name gets added to the exempt list. Sounds fair enough. For most players, it would be obvious to realize whether or not you should be playing at that level or not.

So did Kay say what the future playing status is for Yu Ram Cha? Are they going to let her play in other events on this tour?

I don't know. I haven't spoken with Kay in about 6 months. She does post here, mostly in the tournament section. It's her tour, it's her call.

What do you think BlackJack? Should she be allowed to play?
I would think she could.

I answered that question in my first post in this thread - if you are playing a few levels above the rest of the field - that should tell you that you don't belong there. Let the amateurs have their tournament.

In the case of Yu Ram, there is no record of her cashing in a pro tournament or regional tournament here in the States - mainly Florida - but then again, refer back to the way I look at it as a player. If it looks like you're MUCH better than everybody else, then its self explanatory.

In the end, it's Kay's tour and she has the final say on who can and cannot play.

OK. I understand what you are saying. But didnt she lose and was put on the "B" side by the guy she played in the finals, and it went hil/hill, right.
So it sounds like she doesnt play a couple levels above. Please understand , Im not trying to argue or anything. Just trying to understand the criteria.

I understand where you're coming from. My point is, that if she decides to play on the KBP full time - it will be a short lived experience for a player of her ability. Eventually it will be obvious that she belongs on the Ladies Spirit Tour, not the King's Bay Promotions Amateur Tour.

That's the way I see it.

And I agree. If she snaps off a couple more, she will be considered, like all the other men who are exempt now, to high of a skill level. I feel they need to let her play until she meets the criteria for the exempt list.
And correct me if Im wrong. Isnt the Spirit Tour considered an amateur tour? I play on the NWPA tour in the Pacific NW. It is an amateur tour.
We do have an option to pay (25.00) for WPBA dues.If we win a qualifier,we get a spot in a pro event. But I was under the impression it is still considered an amateur tour.

The Ladies Spirit Tour is "sort of" an amateur tour, amateurs can play, but it is also a stepping stone to the WPBA tour - and they are WPBA sanctioned. Anybody (female) can play in a LST event - pro amateur - or whomever. The ladies are fighting for a qualifying spot - and frequently you have TOP PRO PLAYERS competing on the LST such as GYK, Monica Webb, Helena Thornfeldt, Tiffany Nelson, Jeannie Seaver. Everybody understands that some pros will show up to these events before they pay their entry. So it is hardly an amateur tour.

In contrast, you cannot win a WPBA Qualifier on the KBP Tour, and you will not see any pro players, or many regional tour players that are not on the exempt list.

I have seen both Yu Ram and Bo Ram play, and they are most definitely more suited to play on the Ladies Spirit Tour. I think that anybody else that has seen the difference levels of tournament play here in Florida (Amateur-Regional-Pro) would say the same thing. I am not saying that they were wrong for allowing her to play, I am just saying that the end result proves that she should be playing on the regional tour level. I hope she makes the move to the LST, I think both Yu Ram and Bo Ram would be a nice addition to the LST, IMO the strongest "regional" tour you will ever see.

Yes, I agree the LST is one of the toughest in the country. But a womens regional tour and a mens regional tour are two different animals IMO.
Thanks for your perspective BlackJack. I appreciate your response.
