My Observations From the Super Billiards Expo

Seemed there were a lot of cue makers there this year, and all the big custom resellers.

I've never been to an SBE, were there historically a bunch of smaller 2nd-hand cue dealers present?
Typically yes, many 2nd hand vendors available.

However the trick is to buy directly from the cuemaker before the 2nd hand sellers buy them in bulk and re-sell on here with a $1k+ markup!! So many beautiful cues available, Astle, Cohen, and Shelby do some incredible work.

It was also very nice to see Tony (black boar) there on Friday, he had a few incredible cues with him!

Anti-elbow drop machine

It's not if you drop it, it's when. After contacting the ball it doesn't matter.
That's what some seem to ignore. For soft shots, up to three table length speed or so, many top players don’t drop the elbow significantly, even after contact.

For fast shots, all top pros drop the elbow some, after contact. Often that is five inches or so. That's necessary to keep the arm from hurting as it closes. Some pros come down a lot more, but I don't think it's that common.

I think I've only seen one pro who had zero elbow drop on fast shots and that was Tony Robles some time ago. It looked jerky and painful. I don't think he does that anymore.

For fast shots, most players use what I call a J stroke. It's a pendulum until the tip hits the ball and then it transitions to a piston stroke. The grip hand follows a path like a J starting with the curved part.

Super Billiards Expo 2026

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ wow.

Have you not been following the conversation?
Sure I have. I just get irritated when people cast their own ideas of "Success" unto others.

Can anyone survive on the meager pay that the majority of these 'professionals' are making? No. Everyone knows that.... As I said above, being a successful pool player does not necessarily equate to having a successful career.

You are trying to be combative, though you and I aren't actually in disagreement. How many world beaters have we seen toted around the country by a Daddy, trying to make a name for themselves? They have nothing. However, they damn sure are successful on the table. And because of that, they may actually view themselves as being a successful pool player.

Again, success is determined by the goals of the individual. So, while a lifestyle may not fit your definition of success, it doesn't mean that the person that you are casting judgment upon feels the same way.
