Buddy Hall vs Steve Mizerak, who had the nicer stroke?

Most powerful stroke - Steve Mizerak
Well for sure you have had the opportunity to observe all the best. I gotta wonder why Mike Masey doesn't get that nod. Shrug. His table length draw on a full ball jump shot still comes to my mind. It was executed in 84 or 85 at the Tahoe tournament and a diagram of the shot made it into a Robert Byrne book. They called him Tennessee Tarzan for a reason. 🤷‍♂️
Oh and what about the description of Efren's stroke? Early on, I remember someone calling it "A Pump Handle Stroke". It sure worked for him though.

Buddy Hall vs Steve Mizerak, who had the nicer stroke?

Best looking stroke of all time - Kim Davenport. Louie Roberts second. Most beautiful stroke - Tie, Ed Kelly and Marvin Henderson. Most powerful stroke - Steve Mizerak, who also had a fine soft touch when necessary. Best stroke under pressure - Buddy Hall! He never dogged it except in one illustrious match. Ronnie Allen second here. He never ever missed his out ball!

Overall I'd rather watch Kim get locked down in his rock hard stance and fire that ball in without a quiver in his body anywhere. His stroke was smooth, straight, powerful and deadly! Even the way he moved around the table was solid, every step meaningful.

Only cue man I ever saw close to him was Raymond Ceuelmans, the famous Three Cushion player. He was like a tank at the table when he got down on the ball. Loved watching him play too.
I'm not sure about "best" stroke this and that...but I can say, when in top gear, I have rarely seen two players (Earl and Shaw) who have made the game look easier.

Just not here/yep.....

Helfert....
You hit the nail on the head with those words.

I've felt that way for quite some time, cost of living/traveling/eating for an American pro is about triple since 70's, they are in the same boat.
just not here yet.
MR gives me this feeling, they just wanted the US Open 9 Ball event/name. Hope I'm wrong.
I say that because how many other Major events in the US have they produced here since the buyout?

Best thing I've seen from MR is Mentioning TX as an event location.... better set the dates for 2027 why?
2026 9 ball is already planned out in other parts of Earth.

Is MR going to accommodate all the top players by scheduling the TX event properly?
Are the 2026 US Open dates already set?
Fraser stated in the interview last week that the schedule would be released to the players in a couple of weeks. Didn't sound like any "new" event here in the US other than the new location for the PLP event in Lauderale in February at Classic Billiards, which they coincidently scheduled right on top of the Predator Vegas event that was announced in August.

The only question is, where are they moving the US Open 9 Ball to.

It's Been Two Months Now

You should be receiving daily updates at this point for sure. Maybe even twice a day.
This reminds me of the good Ole days when I made waterbeds. Since I was a one man shop the update calls took me from the work. (Of course this was before cell phones ) On the second update request I would politely point out this fact. I would request that update calls be made after noon as my daughter would be answering the phone as soon as she got home from Kindergarten.

Well, now I've went and done it.

I've got some Tomahawk coming as it had great recommendations also, and it was the 1st material I found when ordering. Have to say, even though I ordered on the weekend, I called the 1st thing this morning to try and add another rod to my order and it had already been put in the mail. They are a 1st class operation for sure, great service. Now I just have to wait for the epoxy as the stuff I had I didn't like as it took forever, days, to cure. While I'm never in much of a hurry, I would like to be able to work it the next day.
You need a epoxy that suitable for the job. 5min epoxy, regardless of the brand is junk! Use a slow cure epoxy. Get a scale that accurately measures small amounts, lay a playing card on the scale, power it on, weight out equal parts of the epoxy (or whatever ratio the manufacturer recommends.) and thoroughly mix the epoxy, this usually leaves the epoxy slightly cloudy.
I always make a point of saving to the playing card with the epoxy leftovers, so I can check that the epoxy has properly cured. 24 hours is usually enough for it to set up enough for use, but for something like a basecoat, I always wait 72 hours before sanding. If the epoxy comes off in small lumps, it's not cured, it should come off as a fine white powder.

Is removing your glove a shark move?

agree completely except that i will not be a statue for others because they cant adjust to less than their idea of perfect behavior.
I watch snooker at every opportunity. In the most recent event on a couple of occasions the referee admonished spectators to be still and silent. They were no where near the table but a couple times the shooter got up from a shot because of movements many rows back in the gallery.
I remeber Minnesota Fats playing Mosconi and complaining about Mosconi not tolerating his antics as Willie was shooting. Fats sarcastic reply mentioned that perhaps they should play in a morgue if spectator movement bothered him.

After a few days of hindsight, I can only add this one sobering thought. I come from a generation of American pool players who ruled the planet. True we were not so aware of the Filipinos yet since they were not traveling to the USA until the 1980's. But there was no doubt in our minds that we had the best players right here. Sigel, Mizerak, Varner, Rempe, Hopkins, West, Howard, Earl, Archer, Davenport and the older vets like Shorty, Ervolino, Jersey Red, Kelly, Ronnie, Butera, Cornbread and Richie. Who could beat us at pool? Nobody!

And this was the way it was............until! Efren and Parica came along and other Pinoy players started showing up here, and kicking ass. Next thing we know there are European players winning major tournaments, by the late 1990's and early 2000's. The bubble had burst! From there it only got worse until we reached the complete breaking point. If not for Shane the last fifteen years we probably wouldn't have won anything of note.

That makes it hard to swallow for a guy like me, who for a long time believed wholeheartedly in American pool dominance. After all, it was our game!

I've long since accepted the fact that the best players today are not born and bred here, and now I enjoy the worldwide flavor of our sport, with the talent being developed everywhere else it seems. So, in essence the game is growing exponentially. Just not here.

Todays Sneaky Pete cues

35+year old Dufferin Sneaky Pete. It's 17 0z and turned down to 11.5mm and I use it as a break cue. It's straight as a die and if I put a quality tip on it I could use it as a playing cue as it hits that good. I had the black ring installed after somebody picked it up thinking it was a housecue . All the housecues at the time were Dufferin 1 pc at the poolhalls

Rhino MUST

How interesting. Rhino just released a new line of cues called Must. How surprising.🤣
These ones are described as having a carbon fiber butt instead of carbon composite.

I am having a really fun time with their customer service department trying to get a replacement Must shaft in exchange for the wobbly one I received. Hell, David Schmelke had me a return label within minutes if the cue I received from them was flawed in any way. Rhino runs you through the gauntlet and no amount of evidence seems to be enough to accept they sent a shaft that is out of spec.

I am not going to lie, I am biased when it comes to where things are manufactured and I prefer US cuemakers. I like Predator cues, and although I do not like that they are made in China, there is no question that they are top notch. Same with J. Flowers, Cuetec and a few other brands. Just a personal preference. I chose Rhino because they manufacture their products in Vietnam, the price was right and I thought "what the heck. Lets give them a try, not much money involved". But, at this point, I think I will take my business elsewhere for a mid priced carbon fiber shaft backup cue. I really, really like my Rhino Eclipse II cue with their standard shaft and play with it often, but it will be the last I purchase from them.

Have heard nice things about Raven out of CA. Made in China, but they stand behind their products and their prices are attractive. That is worth something to me.

Not so "Fast" Eddie
Contact the good folks @Bulletproof Billiards. They are an American based company, I believe. I spoke with them via telephone last week, and could not have been happier with the conversation.
I will be ordering a shaft from them in the very near future.
😎👍
