Thoughts on players who seemingly take Zero practice strokes, before shooting / final follow through?

What a lot of them are doing is called feathering, very tiny movements. Think about it. If the most important things is hitting the CB in an exact spot then spending most of the time with the tip very close to that spot should facilitate accuracy.

i like this.

Just imagine, a player getting down on the cue ball, and seemingly no part of their body moving, and them seemingly only going back once (1 stroke) before follow through on the cue ball. Like a statue, for maybe 5, to 10 seconds, and then pulling back for just 1 single stroke.

pagulayan hits the ball like this occasionally

edit: i remember earl playing like this too except it was .5 seconds instead of 5-10

Nick Varner Citation

sigel, lassiter and rempe all of which were among the best ever, lacked a top one pocket speed which was played often in their time.
yet kelly which could beat them all at any time is rarely mentioned.
varner excelled at all the games. and especially at one pocket. yet he single handily ruined the viewing of it with his slow play.
FYI, Luther Lassiter was 1969 One Pocket Champion at Johnston City. Yes, it pales by comparison to his five Johnston City 9ball titles, 5 Johnston City straight pool titles, and 4 All-around titles.

FYI, Rempe was 1971 Johnston City one pocket champion.

No idea why one pocket speed would be the most important measure of a player's all-around skills anyway. Sigel is surely the only player that can be counted among the five best ever at both straight pool and 9ball. Jay Helfert has offered that he was quite capable at all the games and that he considers Mike to have been a better all-around player than Nick.

Maybe they take very short strokes like Hopkins and DiLiberto. Or are ready to shoot right away like Keith. They are certainly lined up and aiming at something.

I don't see how many of today's players play with such long bridges. I mean really long.

Philippine pool tables

There are many popular tables being used here. You'll find Star Billiards in a lot of action rooms. Also there are Maxima tables, Mr. Sung and very few Brunswicks. Predator makes several labels, all basically the same table. I'm pretty sure they all come from China.

The best part! You can buy a damn good pool table new for $1,500 US. Retail in the billiard supply stores is around $2,000, all accessories and installation included.

Yes, Brunswick GC for under two grand, straight from China! Cheap shipping and assembly of the pieces makes all the difference!

Diamonds are like hen's teeth, few and far between. A few upscale rooms have one. Way too expensive here.
Very interesting! Is the $1500 price you’re talking about for a new GC VII?

What a lot of them are doing is called feathering, very tiny movements. Think about it. If the most important things is hitting the CB in an exact spot then spending most of the time with the tip very close to that spot should facilitate accuracy. It's easier to dial in on the exact spot than sawing back and forth does with only one brief pause at the CB at the end.
I personally think long strokes (including air strokes) don't help anything other than maybe dissipating nervous energy. Plus they're annoying as hell to watch sometimes. JMO
