Man, pool halls are dangerous

Did you ever see one of these? I've been wearing one for probably the last 5 or 6 years. I'm in Florida and I almost always wear just elastic waistband shorts and a t-shirt. I can go anywhere and no one can imagine I have a full size pistol on me and a spare mag.

I should add that you probably can find this style on eBay or even other places and maybe they're good who knows. But I can tell you this one I've had it off and on thousands of times over the years the velcro holds up the materials really tough and it's really quality made in America.

My brother designed a simple block of foam that changes the shape in your pocket to the shape of a wallet or nothing at all. Years later there was a commercial version out there that is probably still available. The foam is cut to lock in the pocket and stay in place. Works really well. I have three of the little 380's that disappear in your pocket. These days I wear old man baggy jeans so I just drop a pistol or two in a pocket loose. There is also something called a Yaqui or Yavapai slide I like well. Goes on your belt for carry on either side. Drop the pistol out when you aren't carrying and it looks like it holds a tape measure or similar. It doesn't scream holster or gun.

After a hurricane moved me away from the New Orleans area I don't feel nearly the need to carry. Before Katrina took out an indoor range I used to shoot steel plates sometimes. Those matches went on for over fifteen years and a youngster named Max Michelle Jr. cut his teeth there. He was a little pudgy when he was eleven or twelve and I wondered if his classmates bullied him sometimes. One of the fastest in the world with a pistol. When he was twelve or thirteen he could draw from the surrender position and shoot five steel plates in under two seconds! These were Friday night matches to leave the weekend free. I used to joke that we carried 1911's to compete and AR-15's to get back and forth through the rough quarter of the parish to get to the range!

9 Ball Roll Out Situation

nope, perfectly not legal. that's why you have to spot/owe a ball after doing so
In the US, it used to be not a foul to knock object balls onto the floor. If you had scored on the shot, you continued at the table. It was also the rule at 3-cushion billiards. Balls driven off the table would spot. There were carom fancy shots where a kiss could be avoided by flying the first object ball into the lap of an innocent spectator.

As I recall, this changed about 1980, plus or minus a decade.

Micarta Ferrules which to buy and where?

Cue components Micarta may be old, but it’s not US made Micarta. Genuine old yellow Micarta is paper based and does not contain asbestos. 99% of Micarta in public hands never had asbestos in it. It was all military made and the only way it got into public hands is military surplus.
I prefer very fine weave line Micarta since it’s tougher and has higher heat resistance. If you’re not careful you can easily crack paper micarta drilling and tapping it due to heat buildup. I prefer old yellow micarta that turns orangish with age (see pic) . I think it plays better than old yellow micarta.

Parts to convert Gold Crown 5 to ball return

Guess i'm lazy, I hate walking around the table to get the balls out. I dont care about noise, it is my only table in my gameroom and I am usually practicing myself. I did find pockets at Classic Billiards but he doesnt have any other parts, Brunswick doesnt sell them anymore either but they used to. Wouldn't be hard to add it as the pockets bolt in and the ball box also bolts on, the table was offered with it when new.

Keith McCready Alive and Kickin'

I sure enjoyed reading that article and it brought back a lot of adventurous memories. I had heard long ago Keith had found a good partner in Jennie and had embraced a healthy lifestyle on the East Coast. I was out of pool from mid 1985 until mid 2001 as I needed to build a sober life foundation. Since I attend most years since, I thought I would run into Keith at SBE but never did. 1983 to early 1985 I hung around Bob's Billiards and the Orange County Sports Arena (Ronnie Allen was the house pro) with Keith, Dickie Renk, Billy Trask and Jeff "Little Man" Patterson. One day a call came into Bob's that there was an action game at the Orange County Sports Arena. A group of us including Keith went over there to see what was going on. We brieflly sweated Little Sergio playing what I thought was another Mexican dude playing one handed jacked up 9 ball. Turned out to be Efren. Lol. I had a lot of fun but I'm grateful to have survived those wild times--including almost drowing in the American River on a trip up to Great American Billiards (Now Hardtimes) in Sacramento with the Bob's Billiard's crew. It's heartwarming to hear Keith and Jennie are doing so well these days! Martin
