Predator Shaft Query

It seems like we don’t have a response from a knowledgeable Predator cue tech. The technician told me that it “appeared” to have been a carbon fiber customization. For those who have believed that a Predator shaft is no different than any other, you are WRONG.
I paid for parts and labor. My expectation is that the cue technician is being paid for a service.
Regardless of consent, would you want to find out why that carbon fiber collar belonged on the cue?
Only one who knows nothing about Predator would respond like that.
In my line of work, we teach the youngins, if you don't know what happens when you press the button...don't press the button.
If you were unsure of the construction on the business end of your shaft, and you didn't have an experienced repair person immediately available...in my opinion you should have either contacted Predator to obtain the information you needed, or reached out to an authorized/qualified repair person, prior to moving forward.
Just my two cents.

Predator Shaft Query

Did you buy this brand new? The reason I ask is that EVERY BK2 I've worked on has a carbon fiber pad on top of the 'ferrule' and If the pad is removed, you will see an exposed carbon tube end and the exposed ferrule edge....I have NOT seen one that has a Capped ferrule. The wood shaft BK's have an embedded Carbon fiber tube about 7 or so " deep. The Carbon fiber pad is an essential part to the front of the cue to not explode when breaking....you have a capped ferrule, that is NOT original. The picture I've attached is from a bk2 that someone changed the whole assembly to a polycarbonate ferrule/tip combo, please note the carbon fiber tube that is exposed. The next picture is what it should look like when it properly installed with the actual Ferrule material that Predator used on those. I have done dozens of BK repairs unfortunately I don't have a picture of what it looks like with the tip removed and the carbon fiber pad but hopefully you get what I'm talking about. The first picture you posted actually shows a crack in it runs around the top of the ferrule.....that cannot happen on the original material.....

New full splice tascarella

New cue was just delivered from the Tascarellas. Its always exciting to get one of their cues but this one just takes the cake. If there is a nicer cue, I have never seen it. Really just shows what Pete is capable of blending an old school bushka design with modern wrapless style. (I appreciate the suggestions to keep it wrapless.)

Added a couple pictures of its sibling cue. I really love the old school design especially with acrylic.

This also marks my 10th cue built by the Pete's. First one delivered around 2003. I love the whole process with them, so great to work with and no better cues. Its also been great with Theresa involved. She's taken things to another level with all she does on the business side.
Very classy/classic. 👍

one pocket strategy question

Based on Fargo I'm assuming neither of you run balls particularly well. I don't say this to belittle. I say it to mean that games are likely longer. Very few games played where you or he makes one glaring error and that's that for that particular rack.

This is important to consider.

Place importance more on moving balls to your hole as often as possible and applying pressure in the onlyway you really can...CROWDING your hole while leaving him shots that he's uncomfortable with but might shoot(Long distance and relatively straight in, frozen to the rail, jacked up from medium distance etc etc, likely all the things that make you AND EVERYONE ELSE uncomfortable too). He will make them once in awhile and that's ok because he's not running out but when he misses you'll be able to get 2-4 or even more because you have an advantage in the lay of the balls. To really do this well you need to work hard on moving the balls while they are still in the rack area. It's much harder to gain this advantage when there are only 5-6 balls on the table.

Kicking at the stack when he doesn't have balls near his hole is a huge move for this and I suggest you spend a little time by yourself kicking with some pace at the stack and just see if you can get a feel for glancing off the balls in productive ways.

Higher skill pocket billiards players - 9 ball or snooker players?

It appears that there are very limited examples of snooker players competing in American pool games, specifically in 8 ball and 9 ball, and performing at a top 20 level, but not at the world class champion level. These instances are maybe 10-20 tournaments. It seems that is a small sample size, and is limited to the top of the top snooker players extremely rarely performing at the top 20 level in American 8 ball and 9 ball.

That said, the question for me becomes - are there any examples of an American 8 or 9 ball player playing at the top 20 level in a world class snooker competition? I'm guessing that the answer is no, there are zero credible such examples.

If so, what does this prove? Something or nothing. It would be nice to see someone who plays pool to play at a high level in snooker.

Aside from the women (Karen and the two Fishers), the male snooker player who made the switch was Tony Drago, who, as wiki says: “won the 2003 World Pool Masters beating Hsia Hui-kai 8–6 and the 2008 Predator International 10-ball Championship beating Francisco Bustamante 13–10.” Drago was not a top 20 snooker player (except briefly) and wasn’t really able to compete on the snooker circuit when he switched to pool. As I mentioned before, Steve Davis played pretty well after he learned the game.

The good snooker players who have dabbled in pool aren’t competitive with top pro players, but they certainly could be if they put the time in to learn the game. It’s just not worth it to them to do so. The one current player who seems to like pool is Gary Wilson, with over 600 games in Fargo - so he’s obviously doing more than just playing a few WNT show appearances.

technique help? struggling with cue Acceleration?

Good Day All,

I've pinpointed an issue that I think is really hindering my progress,
I'm back practicing often after many years out of the game, things are going very well, I'd put myself around 650 fargo

I feel like I almost have two issues relative to acceleration/inability to push forward the cue with speed

one I suspect is physical,
i.e. physical inability to accelerate forward the cue quickly , easily noticeable on my break, so likely age related diminishing fast twitch ability, I have been compensating with more wrist flicking action at the expense of accuracy

second is Im guessing slight nerves/trepidation when shooting, almost slowing down do maintain accuracy on the right contact point on the cue ball, I need shorter punchier backswings and short bridge hand distance to cue ball to minimize this

The former via specific physical exercises seems a bit of an easier fix than the latter

interested in feedback please
Try focusing on carrying the cue through the cueball rather than trying to push it through or into the cb.
