UK Open 2026, London, May 26-31

It's one of the most popular anime of all time (Dragon Ball Z), highest grossing across the world. Basically these warriors have a scouter that they wear on their eye that can gauge the power level of anyone. So when they meet the strongest person, the scouter breaks because it cannot fathom the strength of the person, their power level is over 9,000 of whatever unit of measurement the scouter uses. Like Joshua Filler.
lol trust me, I know the background of the show as I saw it years before it hit Cartoon Network.

I just never understood why that line became a thing. It was a throw away line and for whatever reason, it just took off.

How do buy back at tournaments work?

Here's a different form of buy-back that was used for tournaments around here.

Run many mini-tournaments. Maybe 4-player or 8-player depending on the number of entries and tables.

If a player wins his mini, he advances to the main/final board. If a player loses in a mini, he can buy back. All brackets are single elimination.

Continue the minis until it is time to start the main board. Maybe the minis start at 11AM and the finals start at 7PM. A two-day tournament could start the main board at 3PM on Sunday, with some minis before.

The player who wins his mini at 1PM is free until the main board, maybe to match up on a spare table. Or do his laundry. Or, you lose a mini at 1PM. You go have lunch, visit a little, and get in a mini at 4PM and maybe another one at 5:30. There is no max number of minis you can enter -- there is just a cut-off time for the last one.

There is no need to show up at 11AM -- just show up before the cut-off unless you want to buy back. To encourage early entry, the early mini winners are the ones who get any byes on the main board.

Everyone on the main board at least gets his entry back.

Martin returns, comes from the loss side to win Carolina Billiards Circuit Stop #3 in Cary, NC

It’s been just over two years (Jan. ’24) since Justin Martin has recorded a cash payout in a tournament with us here at AZBilliards. He adjusted that fact for us when he came from the loss side this past weekend (May 23-24) to win Stop #3 on the Carolina Billiards Circuit. The $2,000-added, Open event, with races to 7 on the winners’ side, 6 on the loss side and a single race to 9 in the final, drew 51 entrants to Breaktime Billiards in Cary, NC. There’d been speculation in the pool community, especially along the Mid-Atlantic coast and a […]

Shipping cue

I agree with your packing instructions completely. It’s exactly what I’ve done in the past. The folks in the shipping industry seem to get joy out of seeing how much damage they can do.

I also agree with Fed Ex being the preferred shipper. On another note concerning insurance on any item being shipped I am not sure it’s a good idea.

It’s like admitting there is a valuable item in the container. To that end I am friends with a cue maker that sends most of his cues to Asia. They all have ivory in them. He never insures them for the reasons I mentioned. His policy is once they are in the shippers possession they are no longer his responsibility and the buyers agree to that stipulation and there has never been an issue.

The world and especially America changed drastically in the last twenty years. The shipping industry reflects that downward spiral. IMO!

Good luck to the OP, there’s lots of good advice shared here by good people!
Not sure about Fedx...but for UPS.. I set up an account ...I measure/weight/print a label then take to the UPS store. If they weigh and label it cost almost double or more compared to bringing it in pre-paid ready to go. If a Fedx account can be set up at home it will be substantially cheaper to measure/weigh/label and bring to a Fedx facility.

Dynaspheres and WNT Launch Major Partnership as the New Balls of the Tour

It’s like they took all my least favorite design choices and put them in a single Frankenstein set.
  • From purple 4 to Aramith Tournament pink 4
  • From orange 5 to Aramith Black purple 5
  • From green 6 to Cyclop mint 6
  • From blue 2 to Cyclop teal 7 as the 2
I get changing things for a better broadcast production. I just wish they would honor American pool by choosing color assignments intuitive to traditional US audiences.
I agree totally. The ugliest, most nonsensical ball set ever made, except maybe for the Aramith Black set.

EDIT: I just saw a set of dynaspheres in Vegas last week where the 6 & 14 were grey. You wouln't even see them on this WNT cloth. The rest of the colors were OK, with the 2 & 10 being a medium blue, and the 7 & 15 being cyclop robin egg blue. Make the 6 & 14 a kelly green, and this would be a nice set, visibility-wise

How do buy back at tournaments work?

Often you get this happening fairly early, when both players have a BB. So both players will have their BB. If I play someone I can’t beat (like the time I drew John Morra in the first round), I’m not buying back after he spanks me. If the two players are closely matched, the loser will often buy back, and if he wins then the other player will often buy back. So it becomes best 2 out of 3 sets in the end.

The one time it sucks is if you happen to upset a much better player. At that point the better player buys back and is highly likely to win the second set. And I’m probably NOT wasting my BB trying to beat them again.

It’s a neat option overall for a once a year tournament, but I wouldn’t want it be standard.
That's pretty cool - strategically.
