Tougher tables did not help USA pros for 20 years

And while the rest of the world would rather play on 9' tables I'd still bet on them against our best on the barbox players for the Money.
Yes, but if you had done so at Derby City, you would have lost. Some of the non-American stars of world pool have had the worst of it against the best American bar-box players over the years and I have watched it up close.

One pocket match Allen vs Diliberto

the old matches had players with personality instead of boring no expression shooters.

ronnie was a funny guy and interacted with the sidelines. made lots of comments and kept his opponents mesmerized and entertained.
you just couldnt do any business with him as he could not be trusted in any way.

he tried to trap me in some scams a few times.
finally got me on the putting green at the sahara golf course in vegas.
that didnt work out so well for him for all his cash. and the funny thing was he didnt even recognize me.

Custom and High End Cues on the Decline?

Most of the cues I sell are in the $1500 to $3500 USD range. Almost half of my buyers are under 50. Well made/ artisinal cues are here to stay so long as enough people can afford to buy them.

For someone shopping for a new or used cue there’s a tremendous selection available at all price points in today’s market. I started out in 1969 with a $9 Sears cue with raminwood shaft. Upgraded a year later to a Gandy rosewood merry widow for $32.50. I loved that cue until someone stole it. In the early 70s I played with a dozen or so cheap Meucci and Huebler cues. My game is much better with a cue that works for me than one that doesn’t, cost aside.
the most I would spend for a custom doesn't exceed past $1,500. I know that some cost more but I don't have to go overboard to get what I like. I got 3 custom cue makers that make cues within my budget. hopefully in 6 months, I'd be able to get it.

Tougher tables did not help USA pros for 20 years

Actually, no. At Derby City, over the years, I have watched a couple of top-five-ranked players in the world try their luck vs barbox specialists like Skyler and Corey and they have not fared well.

Actully yes. Bergman and SVB can beat anybody on any table and Corey can too. Mike D is not back at his best yet, but he too can beat anybody on any table. Jawson Shaw started out on a small table and then ran over everybody when he transitioned to the big table.

And while the rest of the world would rather play on 9' tables I'd still bet on them against our best on the barbox players for the Money.

The what did you get pool related for christmas 2025 thread

Yeah, pool equipment is a difficult thing for a spouse to get us, so it is just easier to buy it ourselves. I think most all of the posters here have specific enough preferences that it is hard to shop for us and unless our spouse is really into pool (my wife isn’t) it is easy to get the wrong thing etc….
not just pool equipment but anything with a certain specifics on an item is something that they are scared of even getting. even if she knows I wanted a Custom cue, she wouldn't know the specifics that I wanted on it.
