Great Pool Room Stories

George Redman, better known as George the Drummer because he headed a popular band in Los Angeles and in Hollywood movies.

George could be found in the day at the race track and at night in a pool room.

What I remember most about George is when he said hoped his Cataract surgery would help him to see better and improve his game.

Cataract surgery is necessary when the lenses in your eyes darken and it is harder to see especially in a dark pool room.

I am not sure of George's age but he must have been in his 60's and sadly the surgery didn't help.

I think we all got spoiled with the production and commentary from Accu-Stats and TAR.

One thing the new streamers have proved beyond a doubt is that good commentary is hard to come by.

A sign of progress is having Scott Frost on a lot of streams, especially when he is covering one pocket. Now doing it remotely from home.

I get a kick outta that guy MolinaMike and Collins because they are down to earth pool fans. And its free.

Understatement, Lou. One player's stream had a complete idiot commentator. His rare remarks about the actual game were usually wrong. Plain room ambience would have been much better. Some idiots are likeable.

With enough top level guys the Bigfoot is epic.

Everytime I go to Super Billiards and play a few racks. One of the early years after the 10 foot tables cane out a much younger Jayson Shaw watched me break and run a rack and was obviously impressed. I told him, "I work for a living".

My greatest memory at Derby City was playing a 6 rail figure 8 position with the cueball after cutting thin the 7 in the side at Derby City. Dead straight position on the 8 playing John Morra to get 7 games to 7. The whole place in the main area went quiet for a couple seconds... I broke dry the next game he ran out 8 to 7. Then broke and ran to get 9 to 7.

Good for you.

Still, for most guys, it might as well be snooker or pyramid.

They really need to get over the BF thing.

I get that once you put that 10' table in place you don't want to move it but frankly, who can identify with playing on a 10' table?! Especially when there are plenty of great banks and 1pocket matches available. I know the Big Foot is Greg's pet thing but I think most would rather see some banks and 1pocket.
