Custom and High End Cues on the Decline?

Most young adults do not have the kind of income (or wealth) that would allow them to buy a high end cue.

And you don't fix that problem by making high end cues lower priced--
You fix the problem by making low end jobs pay more--
{{OR make lesser gamblers win big more often}}

Wrongo. The low paying jobs are always for teens and the poverty class. Eliminating the poverty is done by going to true socialism...and nobody gets luxury items. Increasing the lowest paying jobs eliminates the middle and upper middle class who buy things like custom cues.

Szamboti's were never for people who relied on minimum wage to live.

New stick

Schweeeet! 👍

Thank you.
Came with his kielwood shaft.
Changed the tip out to a hard pressed Triangle. Very stiff hit and responsive.
Getting too much action off the cue ball, english just taking off, so I'm working on more center ball hits which is a good thing.
Gave him one of my shafts to duplicate diameter and length of taper.
Came out to my satisfaction.
Thank you.

European Snooker Pocket Size vs American

For those of you that have been to Europe and played on Professional 12 foot Snooker tables, do you find them somewhat easier than American Snooker tables? I've been told a lot of American Snooker tables are tightened up, but I'm not sure how true that is.
I live in the USA and have never played on an official European table. I’ve been playing the game for almost 60 years around the Midwest and seen many tables. Mostly 10 footers but last few years on a 12’. Even ran a few 10 ft tables in my day. I have watched countless hours of ROS, Higgins, Williams and others the last 10 - 15 years. I agree the new cloth lets a few shots pot. Sometimes it’s WOW.

I also think pocket shape has an impact. Both the American and European tables have rounded corners. To me it appears the Euro table then have a straight edge going to the back of the pocket. An American table has a slightly rounded edge going in. That’s how the Euros can shoot down the rail and draw back for the 5. This rounded edge is not much but it makes a difference. Olhausen pool and snooker tables are made this way. You can slow roll down the rail on an Olhausen pool table and the ball might not drop. This slight arc actually bounces the ball away from the pocket. Look at the inner edge of corner pocket when they are shooting the black ball. They look straight to me.

I’m not in any way downgrading a pros skills and abilities. They are unbelievably talented. But I do believe there is a difference in the way tables are made. Thanks.

Custom and High End Cues on the Decline?

Well... Guess I'm in the over 40 crowd 😆.
Back in my younger years when I started playing pool I just used house sticks until I bought a Chinese 10 piece cue at a garage sale for pocket change. Sure i looked at those fancy cues for sale but never really wanted to spend 200-300.00 bucks for one as i was not that serious of a player, and neither were my friends.

Fast forward 30 years....

It wasn't until I joined the local moose lodge and started playing with guys that were serious players that I spent $140.00 on a Rage. Then after playing with it for almost a year and becoming an " above average " player I decided to treat myself to a nice Joss in the $1K range.
I can really appreciate the feel and balance of a well built cue now that I have been playing awile. Im not certain that I would have noticed this as much if I had not developed my skills as a player first.
Now Im looking at building my own cues, and this rabbit hole sure goes deep... 😆 So I hope there is still a market there when I'm ready to sell a couple... Time will tell....

New stick

Recently picked this up from Stephen Janes at the Joss shop in Maryland. Old school box cue with a theme of fall colors.
Gave him the butt and two shafts that his father, Dan, made for me about 8 years ago to refinish and to retire it.
Wonderful experience.
