Pool cue cases

I was once offered the option of having one of those tight interiors built into a case I was having built or the case maker's usual fit.

I told them: no, I do not want to have to turn my case upside down and shake my cue out of the case -- those cases are made for guys that thrown their cases into the back of their pick up truck and are worried that, in their tequila shooting haze, they forgot to zipper the case closed, lol.

I am not one of those guys.

Agreed. My biggest shock is those that refuse to use any other interior in their cases. I had a Justis case with the original tubes and I was “relieved” of it and my cues by gunpoint in a robbery. I went to Jack to get a replacement made, but he had switched to those soft interiors, I offered to pay him more to do one in tubes and he refused, it blew my mind.

There’s another case maker here on this forum that I’ll leave nameless that makes beautiful cases, but uses those soft interiors. I inquired about having him make one with tubes. He told me he couldn’t get material to make the tubes, which was laughable so I just moved on.

The finest killing field I ever found was a side room to a naked dancing lady place and whore house. The pimps and gigolos would get bored and walk over to hustle drunks. They would stall until the bet got to twenty or fifty a game of eight or nine ball. Once in a long time a hundred a game! This was early eighties dollars so pretty sweet money.

I was a drunk and always had a pocket full of money so I was natural prey for these guys living off the gals primarily. The starting bet was always three or five dollars so these guys would stall, losing while raising the bet in steps to twenty or fifty. I would stall just a little less than them so win while still on the stall. Sometimes I had people give me a hundred dollars or more while they were trying to massage the bet! I could often stay on the stall a little even when they came off the stall, leaving me something for another night. One chuckle was that a mostly naked lady from next door would come over to raise hell at me a few times a month. "They were working their asses off and I was taking all of their money!" Not much sympathy from me since they were hustling the money from chumps to begin with!

It was a few years of the easiest money ever on a pool table then the main business lost it's license due to prostitution and the pool room shut down too. A damned shame, a few thousand a month was easy to come by just hustling the hustlers.

Lol @ 3 dollars a game. :ROFLMAO:
In SoCal only the black guys played for that; usually one pocket. Where do you break it down? 10 games?

The "bunting" discourse is BS. Current pros have ridiculous speed control and can play with just as much power as pros past. The difference is with the modern (often longer) stroke and the lack of body movement it doesn't *look* like they're hitting it that hard.
Duong is a fantastic example.
They are hitting it "hard" relative to the speed of the table conditions.

That is no comparison to hitting it "hard" on a table that plays three times slower.

A funny story from the place by the cathouse. I have told the story a few times but it has been years, about due again I reckon.

Most of the hustlers would just stall and jack the bet while seeming to be trying to play pool. One night though, a guy was extremely nasty, sneering and taunting. The room had a side door into the other business then another side door on the other side that had to be unlocked as a fire door. This gave me an idea.

There was a wall rack by the door to the outside and I always played off the wall. I stalled a little now and then when he wanted to jack the bet and I had taken over a hundred and a half from him without him letting me lose! Normally I would wait until the other player was ready to play and then pluck them but this guy was obnoxious enough I came up with another idea. Wouldn't make as much money but it would gall him more thinking a drunk had gotten away from him after he gave me several hundred dollars!

He raised the bet to fifty or a hundred before I saw the slight shift in body language that said he was ready to play. The head of the table was right by the side door so when he went to break everything was in perfect position.

I walked over and slapped a heavy hand on his shoulder like we were buddies, figured that would annoy him all by itself! "I have had too much to drink, you have had too much to drink,(despite he wasn't drinking) lets finish this another night!" I slapped the house cue in the wall rack and was out the door before he could figure out a response to me being too nice to be hustled!

I could have probably taken him for a few hundred dollars more but I have gotten thousands of dollars of laughs out of him thinking of the drunk slipping the hook!

Never a place with easier money or less gambling risk. It was a sad day when it closed down.

Well it went a bit further back in 2006 when he posted that.
Still not even close to being a hustler.
Banging balls into rails until someone asks to play for some cash is a bit closer to the mark.
Laying off until the bet gets big is even more devious.
I miss defending the local room from road dogs.
