Myth or real - Stroke smoothness as a requisite for certain shots

—“There are situations where a particular stroke works better than others. The old players had multiple strokes in their bag of tricks, roughly the equivalent of the golfer's bag of clubs. Mosconi used at least three strokes, more if you broke them down precisely.”

I completely reject the premise that some strokes work better than others, and this is Exactly the idea that I am trying to squash. They are all equivalent if your impulse vector is equivalent.

A horrible jab stroke is equivalent to a long accelerating stroke if you produce the same impulse.

I won’t say more since I’ve answered the OPs question for him. Stay warm!

Ah, but some strokes are easier to get the impulse you want for a shot.

A pool player usually has three cues with him now, jump, break, and at least one playing cue. He doesn't swing any two the same, effectively using the right stroke for the job along with the right cue.

If all cues and all strokes worked equally well, nobody would be toting three cues!

What is up with Earl??

... There must have been 30 or more pros his same speed in pool history and none acted like him. ...
I've heard that Gene Nagy took a baseball bat to the jukebox. And there was Robert Cannefax who took a pocket knife to the tournament cloth he thought was too old. He also would stab himself in the leg with that knife when he was upset. He had a wooden leg -- I assume he didn't forget which was which.

Gold Crown 7 Revealed

Seems kind of bouncy to me, closer to a Diamond than a GC. Hard to say for sure unless on the table. The aesthetics are out of this world good though.
Looks like it. I just got smoked on a Diamond 7 barbox recently. Played the worst match ever as long as I could remember, not sure how many racks I've won but I played abysmal. It was so bad that I was considering not playing pool again. One of the tightest pockets, really slow cloth and hard rails. My banks are not even working that I only managed 1 successful attempt. I'm never going to play on a barbox competitively ever again. If there was one thing it is good for, is pocketing drills.

Rhino Time Crystal Install - New Ferule, Aegis 2.

Had a customer ask for a new ferule and tip on a sentimental stick. He mentioned getting a new blue irish thread wrap, so I decided he'd like the time crystal for it's color and general forgiveness and low maintenance.

I am a fan of the time crystal tips, no complaints. They install nicely and last a long time. They chalk good every time and shape / hold shape nicely.
