MacDonald successfully defends her NWPA Martha Hartsell Memorial title

Canada’s Kathie MacDonald checked a lot of ‘boxes’ with her undefeated run to claim Stop #3 on this year’s Northwest Pool Association Tour (NWPA), an event known as the Martha Hartsell Memorial, held as it is traditionally, at Phil’s Bar & Grill in Salem, OR this past weekend (June 28-29). First win in 2025 (check), first win since last September (check), successful defense of her Martha Hartsell Memorial title, earned in 2023, which entailed a loss in her opening round and winning nine on the loss side to reach the final and defeat Dyamelle Castilleja by allowing her only a […]

Hey..be careful

Wouldn't that not be the way to do it. Like the you use the bolts to just level the machine and when cutting your adjusting your tailstock right? Cause if your tailstock is off, your just leveling your machine to an out of whack tailstock right. Or am i missing some info here. I've only set my lathe up twice but that's the way i learned from the web when i first got it.

Just like how you can't assume your tail stock is aligned, you can't assume your bed is completely planar. Of course you have to start with your tailstock aligned in all three axis. You then adjust the bed to make it completely planar, starting with a global planar and adjusting to remove any pitch and roll. If the bed is sturdy enough and machined within acceptable tolerance, you reduce the number of necessary support/adjustment points.

In the old days, and now to a lesser extent, beds and ways were hand scraped on the higher precision machines. Linear roller rails have mostly replaced the practice.

Crechale chalks up his first major win at Stars & Stripes Split Bracket event in TN

Since its inception, our coverage of national and international pool events has always featured a healthy influx of new names entering our database with a first-ever (recorded) cash payout and/or major/regional tour win. While Kentuckian Phillip Crechale made his entrance into this database in February with a win at Jersey Girl Billiards’ Music City Split Bracket event (17th), he gets a ‘ring-a-ding’ recognition bell (like some bartenders ring when they get a good tip) for coming out on top at this past Memorial Day weekend’s (May 23-25), $1,000-added Stars and Stripes Split Bracket event, hosted by J.O.B. Billiards in Madison, […]

Up and coming cue makers to invest in???

I wouldn’t invest in pool cues
There are better investments out there.
Buy a pool cue because you like it and want to play with it
i agree 100%
also the op wants an $800 cue that will appreciate
i dont think thats going to happen
one more also
most players now adays want predators and cuetecs
the days of coveted cues and cuemakers are over IMO
i sold my collection because in my opinion the number of people who can afford and want a scruggs/tad/tasc/or even nitti/gilbert etc are dying off

DCC one pocket speed-up rule

About time!!!!

Is this at every point of the match, or only after a certain amount of time has elapsed?
That is the full rule for that aspect, so it appears to apply at all times.

Edit to correct some errors...

I just noticed the following... There is a foul cancellation rule, so both players cannot be negative. Also, I see this:

Ball Count of -5 Loss of Game
Any ball count score that reaches negative five (-5) is loss of game.

There is also this:

4 Hour Match Limit
The player that is leading in the game and ball count wins the match. If both players are tied in the game and ball count, the next player to take the score lead (games plus ball count) wins the match. (This score lead can be determined by pocketing a ball or a foul shot)

I can imagine some five-minute shots, depending on the score. I pity the player who is behind 2-1 with half an hour left. There will be situations where blasting the balls with no particular shot in mind is the right play.

New Olhausen tournament model..................

There is a distinct difference between diamond and Brunswick tables, both look and how they play. They sound different. Feel different.

I’m not trying to be a knocker, but I guess it sounds as such, but what is the allure of this vs a diamond? Where does this table fit in? It very much tries to favor a diamond in the looks department, but it’s far from opulent. It’s not smooth and flowing like a GC. The Olhausen rattle is going to be a hard reputation to fade even if it is a thing of the past. It used to be the table that picked its nose and ate it. People remember, Olhausen. People remember.
I think like Brunswick, only the old heads remember Olhausen. I doubt hardly any of the current ladies have even played on one.

They are in a good spot imo. If the table plays well and is competitively priced, and they throw their name in the sponsorship hat, they have a chance to do great.

Same as Brunswick.

If this works out, we’ll have in USA professional pool:

Diamond
Predator
Brunswick
Rasson
Olhausen

I like this landscape. The more the better.

Sticky threads...

Excuse the ignorance of this old man and for asking a dumb question… what makes a thread sticky?
It's an option that a moderator can set on a thread. Sticky threads appear at the top of the thread list on the forum listing.

As for why threads are made sticky, it's for administration threads, like the rules for posting, and for special threads that should be kept in view for various reasons.

Maybe the multiple forum posting rules threads could be consolidated. The purposes of several of the special threads have expired.
