Efren's What's In The Case

For some reason Efren's What's In The Case video has disappeared from youtube, but you can still see it here. Considering it's content, it was probably removed by a evil conspiracy of cue and accessory manufacturers.

What a hoot! First off, his 4x6 Justis case is mostly empty. He leaves the Philippines with two cues and two shafts, and his playing shaft has got to be the one of the sickest-looking bluest shafts I've ever seen. The get a load of his one piece of chalk. It looks like he's been using it since his Cesar Morales days.

He has an old but kind of neat tip shaper that I've never seen before. And some well-worn sandpaper that he uses on his shaft and tips, a container of Johnson's Baby Powder, and some medication for his arthritis. It looks like his 12.5mm shaft has been sanded down to 12 or less. The beautiful Justis case gets a "fragile" sticker pasted on the outside and goes through normal baggage at the airport.

This is a good lesson for anal equipment freaks like me.

so are the cues/shafts no-names then?

That's awesome. You hear commentators make a lot of wisecracks about his "3 dollar house stick".

Just more proof that it's the Filipino, not the arrow :P

I thought he was still playing with a Judd, unless he moved from Colorado to Japan and started making cues.

Haha. That video was pretty cool. Talk about simple. Break cue, playing cue. Hey, he gets the job more than done with just that. Maybe I shouldn't get all those different cues I want... naaaaah!

I noticed Efren likes the plain janes just like his judd. No exotic woods, inlays, ivory, silvers, diamonds, golds etc. It's been said here before a zillion times, it's not the arrow it's the Indian. I better start stealing those worn out chalks from my poolhall :D maybe that's the real secret of his magic. He tricked us!

Thanks for the link!

During DCC he actually played with the butt of his breakcue. I don't think he used his playing-cue at all.

I asked him why he had changed cue since last time I saw him, and if I remember correctly he told me that his son had borrowed his cue and when he got it back there was a small problem in the joint. Those kids!!! :o

Thanks for posting this!

Did I hear him say his playing cue cost $120,000? Maybe I misheard. You have to listen close. His English is a little hard to understand (but much better than my Filipino!)

For that much money, there should be diamonds or super high-tech BS engineering. I don't think there was any of that. Looks like $2,000 worth of cue at the most - and maybe only $800 worth. (I wonder if it is an LD shaft:grin::grin:.)

Notice the stainless steel joint and the urethaned wrap - both things I like - but I have always felt like I was in the minority.

Again, definitely the indian. Mr. Reyes is amazing.

I think he meant that in either Pesos or in Yen

Most likely he meant 120,000 Pesos, which is similar to $ 2,200

Created especially for you

Hey, you were there when I asked Efren about the cue, weren't you? Didn't he say that his son had played with it, and that something broke?

If I was there, I either had too many beers in my belly or I just couldn't understand that fishy slang you Norwegians speak.
