Dennis Hatch needs a stake horse!

I talked to Rodney and his backer Sunday night and they want to play if Dennis doesn't. I spoke with Dennis yesterday and he told me he would call me Friday.

There are still details to workout with Rodney about the table but his backer is ready and willing to post so I feel pretty good about having a match May 4-6 one way or the other.

Thanks
WOW I definitely would come for Appleton/Hatch but Appleton/Morris is an even better matchup. Stream should be lit up!

frankncali >>>>>>> glad Vegas is close enough to go.

Note to poolhustler.... get ready we are off and rolling for either of these!

match

well lets give dennis a chance to get staked and post the money!!

i dont know much about dennis just that he plays good!

i know rodney pretty good they play pretty similar i think ...

even if dennis plays i will play rodney later in the year if they want the game and of course actionreport!

am keen to get into big action.. i prefer to arrange matches a month or so before... at good locations and even better if streamed for everyone!! its better than going venue to venue state to state and talking for hours with players and people wanting the crazy spots then nothing happens....or playing for small money!!

if i could get 3-4 matches a year similar to this one i would be very happy bunny!

thanks let me know justine pal

I just think someone got "scared" and this is the first step in the cancellation of the match.

JMHO

Roy, I like you and everything, but I don't think Dennis Hatch is scared of any pool player on the face of the earth. ;)

It's a shame when players do not come up with the cheese for action matches that the rumors seem to fly. The prospective action players are the apple of everyone's eye when they're being considered for an action game, but when the logistics are not worked out, these same players are sometimes not given respect for their efforts, sometimes by the very ones who held them in high regard originally.

Pool folk sure can be fickle at times! :p

Dennis has been up and down th pike many many times and I expect he knows what is best in this situation. This is only my guess.

There are many out there these days who are only "fair weather backers". They want to be involved in low investment deals and risk very little. They like being involved with good players, but, when the talk turns serious or for serious nvestment, they fll far to the rear of the crowd.

I can see both sides of this and I don't fault Dennis at all. When uo go to an event with a small entry and win around $1000-$1200 and have to split it, well, let's face it, $5-600 ain't much money these days.

My point, there are two perspectives to everything.

what you are failing to see is that some players will take advantage of their backers and I believe that is how the OP portrays Dennis' backers' feelings.

Some players will let a backer stake them in matches that are straight up gambling, and why wouldn't they, as they are risking nothing for a shot at half the cheese. On the other hand, they will stake themselves when it is stealing. This is what I have a problem with and its why I won't stake anyone unless they have a portion of the money in the middle as well. A player that has a regular stake horse should allow that stake horse to stake them in everything and split everything, a true business relationship.

Stake horses that allow players to pick which matches they want staked in and which ones they don't are just idiots and should just burn their money.

I could have meant that the backer got scared also, right? ;)

Anyway, my guess is that this match-up unfortunately won't happen, for one reason or another.

Moving on to the next, Rodney - Darren. That will be awesome.

You're wrong

this is just another reason why i respect bartram. there is no b.s. with him. he makes a game, backs himself and plays. and when that game is done..he is looking for another one. pool needs more players like bartram.

Chris does not always back himself. He wanted a backer for Olathe I believe and he had backers at DCC several years ago when he played Chohan.

backers

players should show more loyalty to backers ...when they get soft game they dont want stake horse when they get tough game they only want stakehorse and not bet there own.. you got to take the rough with the smooth

i have been with my stakehorse for 5 years ... he showed alot of faith in me when i first started playing american pool in 2006 he put me in the box when we spent lot of time in philippines against the likes of corteza, kiamco, gabica, pena, valle, gomez de luna ,and other players. fortunatley we come out of it on the right side but could have easily lost 20k plus..and the same when i first come to states giving weight against good players and also playing the likes of svb, wiseman, bartram, townend, pinegar etc.....

also i believe the players ask for too much %% of stakehorses which puts people of backing players..

i have a set % and have done for most of my career 25% is fair i believe..and thats what i always ask for ...if people want to give me more then good..if they give me less then next time i dont ask them or let them stake me in the middle!!

anyway hope dennis hatch gets stakehorse if not am sure me and rodney will have great match..:)

Darren, You are the MAN. HOWEVER, I would much rather see Rodney play AND I think you have a much tougher game there. So I will give you the bet first and bet $200 on Rodney if you want the small potatos action.

If you don't want the bet then it's good with the next person who wants to bet it with me.

I guess that Dennis' backer is learning that 40% of something is better than 100% of nothing

what a great attitude by a world class player. You recognize that a good stakehorse is hard to come by and view it as such. I have always given 40-50% depending on the amount bet. Staking people is a tough proposition because the stakehorse is generally giving 2-1 on the money.

Most players fail to see that having a good stakehorse and one that trusts them are few and far between. All it takes is one shady deal by a player and then the stake is over. It's kind of like biting the hand that feeds them.

I have never understood players that dump their stakehorse or ruin a good relationship over a few bucks.

There are only a handful of players that I will go up with now and you exemplify the kind of player that I would not be afraid to bet on or go in with. Good Luck against Rodney.

thanks

thanks

i have never dumped a match in my life.or made a saver with my opponent in a money match.i appreciate what my stakehorse as done for me on the pool table and off the table we go back a long way we trust eachother ...

i have not had the pleasure of meeting mr. appleton, but he sure seems like a class act. rep to you sir.

i will let the guys like roy take your money pal...:)

hope to see everyone in vegas ..

And Roy will be HAPPY to do so. If he keeps beating me on these bets then I will have to change my screen name to RS Cases. :-)

Did he tell you how I went out of my to trap myself betting against you in the Reno event? You gotta just love action to bet against a world champion!

Hope you and Rodney both play good and that it's a hard fought match. I am betting with my heart here because Rodney is my friend and one of my pool heros. I think it's a coin toss and depends on who hits the gear at the right time.

John

Please don't use those stupid call shot rules. Champion players should play real 10 ball.

I think they should call all shots. Imagine if it goes to 99-99 and losing the match and $20K because your opponent slopped a ball in for the win.

I would be careful about using the WPA Ten Ball rules. There's some funny stuff in there regarding safeties and the like. Use regular 9-Ball rules with the ten not counting on the break in the two lower corner pockets.

I have and he is a great guy and I wish him all the best.

That said.....I will take 7 games and bet on the big Hawaiian guy.
