Did you play pool today??

I thought it would be interesting to find out what the typical pool playing experience is like for most here on AZ. I will start by telling you my typical day, which is much like the movie Ground Hog Day. Everyday I go to the poolroom and get on the tightest table in the room. I practice by myself, do some drills and then practice my break. This usually takes about 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours, and by this time I'm usually bored to death (unless I'm practicing for something and really motivated) and end up talking and unscrewing my cue. This is how it goes every single day for me at my poolroom. If I'm really bored and somebody comes in then that may possibly bet $10 (nobody where I live plays for anything, PERIOD) and I have time to play, I'll offer them the nuts like I always do (sounds like Bartram) and try to out run the nuts. However, I'm usually the only person in the place that will bet a quarter besides the owner who never makes a move my way. So, what are your typical days like? Your practice sessions?

Sorry for the long post but I have been wondering what the average AZ poolplayers day is like while at the poolroom.

poolroom days - that's easy....once a week - usually Wednesdays. Go to the poolhall around 3-4 PM. Look to see if I know anyone playing. If not, look to see who's playing alone (whether it be 9ft GC or BB), and might ask if they would like to play some. If nothing...grab some balls and head to one of the 9 footers and practice (sometimes 9 or 10 ball, sometimes one pocket, etc.). By 4:30 a friend of mine will be there, and we'll play till 6ish.

Other than that day, I might play a weekly tourney on Saturday (starts between 7-8 PM) at a local bar that has 5 Diamond barboxes. Any other pool is played at home....

On Wednesdays though, I do find myself talking with what regulars are there, sometimes more than playing, until my buddy arrives.

I to like to hear how much people play, my play schedule is messed up every week do to my health reasons , but he's how it sometimes runs. Monday around noon at a bowling alley where the have eight , 9 ft, brunswicks that last till about 3;30 or so , then tuesday, go to a bar where there are 4 bar box tables play noon till 3 or 4 , wednsday, non till 3 same place then thursday back to the big tables to get ready for thursday night league on the bar box , i seem to play better on a bar box after playing on a 9 ft. Then on weekends look for a tourament, i do seem to play pretty often (at least it's what my wife say's ) lol, what do you think ? My health holds me back, or i would play every chance i could , !!! Im anxios to see how much other people play i bet alot more then i ,

I have a table downstairs.

Everytime I let my dogs outside, I play pool.

The best part is that the time is paid for.

I figure, as much as I play, the table has already paid for itself in time and gas spent going out to play.

Notice I didn't mention how much/often I shoot at home....don't want anyone to think I actually practice :p

I'm in college, and between all of my classes, work outside of classes, studying for classes, going to the gym, and sleeping, I don't have nearly as much time to play as much as I want to :frown:. But I only have 3 more weeks before summer vacation starts. I'll have a job and I'll be taking one class at a local community college, but I'll have plenty of time to play... I'm thinking 3 or 4 days a week... 3 to 5 hours each day.

I tend to only play on the weekend as there is no place good to play in my tiny ass town and the closest decent place is a 40 minute drive.

So Saturday I get there at noon when they open and do the $11 for 12-6pm and play for six hours. They have eight 9 foot Diamond Pros and nothing else. Small place but nice. Depending upon who is there I'll either play by myself the whole time or play against someone just for fun. I like playing with others but I'm content to just work on my game by myself too. If someone asks me for a game I'll play but I don't seek them out. I don't play for money right now, but wouldn't be against it in the future when my skills develop. I've been lucky, there is a guy at the pool hall who is much better then I am but is often willing to play me just for fun which is a great chance for me to watch a better player and see how they play. I appreciate the opportunity because I know it can be hard to find sometimes.

Sunday that place is closed and there really isn't anywhere else decent to play. I go to a brew pub that has some decent beer and five 8 footers in somewhat crappy shape. Better then nothing though so I usually play there for 3-4 hours. Sometimes my roommate comes with me and we play nine ball or one pocket. He isn't a player so it's just for fun and never too serious.

So I get about 10 hours a week in, but that is only in a 2 day span. I would love to get some time in during the week but by the time I get off work and take care of things at home or work out I'm never up for driving into town. I can't wait until I have a space big enough for a table.

Monday - Work 8-5 - Practice pool 5:30 - 7:30 (might play in an 8ball tournament after)
Tuesday - Work 8-5 - APA 8ball league
Wednesday - Work 8-5 - Practice pool 5:30 - 7:30 (might play in a 9ball tournament after)
Thursday - Work 8-5 - APA 8ball League
Friday - Work 8-5 - No Pool
Saturday - Practice pool 1 - 5 (unless something else is going on)
Sunday - Practice pool 1 - 5 (unless something else is going on)

I also play in a Straight pool league but that doesn't have a certain night that we have to play. We can play it any time during the week.

A few years ago when I was single and I use to work from 5am to 1pm, I use to go up to the pool hall from 1:30 to 7pm everyday but i don't have that time anymore.

I Get up everyday at 430 AM and go to work until 4 have a hr drive home and when i get home i play with my children 4yr, 3yr, and 4 wk old (future pool stars) then i put them to bed at 8 spend some time with the wife around 10 at night every night i head out to the barn and hit balls for about a hr.
other than that i play BCA on tuesdays and thats all i get to practice anymore.

back in the day it was 8-10 hrs strait a day.

My pool schedule

I try to play at least SOME every day and I have my own table. I play in APA leagues on Sunday and Monday so I probably play 2 hours each of those days. Tuesday through Thursday I try to play 1+ hours at my home table. Sometimes on Friday I go to the pool room to play a match with one of my APA friends so I usually get at least 2 hours in on that day. On Saturday - I play 1-2 hours at home. But an old college buddy comes up on 50% of the Saturdays - so I get closer to 4 hours of play when he is there. I try to get approximately 12 hours of play in every week. One other point - I play a bit less in the summer months - perhaps no more than 7 hours a week. Prime pool playing months are Oct-May. When I retire in 3 years I hope to average at least 15 hours of play each week.

I'm retirerd, but it still depends on the weather here in Florida. I have new cloth on now that the humid conditions are no longer a factor if I can play or not. The screaned porch has a screaned roof, so if it's raining I can't uncover the table. I'm debating weather to put a panel roof on because of the strong storms we get in Tampa, to say nothing of the hurricains that eat those kind of roofs like they were cardboard.

To make a long story shorter, mangage to average about five hours a day. Some days I play six to eight hours, some I only play two or three. It works for me because my time is my own. Johnnyt

No ring on Steve's finger! There's no chance in hell I could get that much table time anymore. There was a time (pre-ring) where I played every day (including Christmas) for anywhere from 4-12 hours. I was in the College of Engineering too.

I'm at the pool hall...

M-F 8am-4:30pm Work...5pm-??? I'm at the pool hall.
Sat 11:00am-??? I'm at the pool hall or out of town at a tournament.
Sun 11:00am-??? Myself and my buddy Kim running the tournament...at the pool hall! http://www.ustream.tv/channel/springfield-billiards Self promotion at it's best there folks!!!

Activities while at the pool hall:
1. Practice, I don't do much special in this area, generally just hit balls or occassionally play the ghost.
2. Drink Sothern Comfort...
3. Perform "rain dance" and pray for someone to come in to play some.
4. If road player shows up, I generally lose. Got beat at one pocket by a guy from Texas last weekend, it hurt!
5. Sit around with my SoCo and wait to see if Les Davis will EVER play me again. It's been over a month now, he's gotta be itchin' bad!
6. Check my lottery tickets for the Pick3, Pick4, ShowMe5 and Missouri Lotto and Powerball on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I'm still vowing to change the pool world very drastically if I ever hit the Powerball!
7. Watch the door...still waiting for my billionaire non-playin' "customer" to walk in and make me a rich man...been lookin' for that guy for a LONG time now...what, is my pool hall not on his list? LOL

Keep tryin' to find happiness folks! The older we get, the less time we have...that time stuff is our most precious asset so don't squander it! Keep hittin' 'em straight! Until next time...

P.S. Yeah, I'm divorced....TWICE! Might of had something to do with the fact that....I WAS AT THE POOL HALL!

So random these days...

Any day of the week: Drive 1 hour to meet sorta-girlfriend and play her for 3-7 hours.

Weekdays except league night: Might get out and shoot if there's an urge, 3-4 hours

League night: 2-3 hours. I just got top player and a little $$. Might play 2 more hours afterward.

Friday or Saturday night: 35 min road trip with my other buddy, dinner before and denny's after.

Sunday - recovery

I play every day here at home on my SWEET! GC copy w/ Simonis and 4-3/8" pockets.

I usually play 14.1 til I run 50. Then I get to practice full rack rotation.....kind of like eating your veggies to get dessert. Then I play 10ball for an hour or so. Some days I practice 1P but I find it hard to do. If I'm playing someone fine, but 1P practice is boring.....unless I"m working on a particular shot.

I really should practice kicks n banks in there, but that gets WAY boring too.....til I need it, then I chastise myself for having no attention span. :D

I'll have to remember activity 3!!!!!

Everyday on my Kim Steel table. Straight pool mostly. Some nights may not be that long due to three little children wanting to play with daddy. Other days I can play for a few hours before bed. It is nice having a table in the house.

I am in the process of buying a house with a room for a 9ft table. I imagine it is nice to be able to hit balls (for free!!) whenever you are thinking about something you want to work on.
