Veterans Tourny:poolplayers that were soldiers?

vet pool

Well i never thought myself as a champ, but shoot o.k. as i played in the 14.1 sos champinship of all europe and took ist in region-[bremanhaven-germany] 1st in destrick in ]BERLIN] and 8th in all europe in [GERPPIN] loads of fun. [1970] STICK KYTLE:confused:

Veterans of War

Recently, Johnny Archer, Nick Varner and Mark Cantrell had one of their exhibitions at a pool hall in Missouri which was filled with veterans of war.

It would be interesting to see how many pool players actually served in combat, let alone a pool tournament to determine the best player.

I would probably play if time was permitting and would probably recommend that the tournament be held at the Missouri location, because that's where the real soldiers hang out.

I am only a B player but won the San Diego 14.1 championships while stationed at the Naval Station in 1974. The CO would not let me advance further, guess he didn't think much of pool. Tom

The WPBA players have also visited the troops - most recently during their event at Viejas in San Diego - and it sounds as if everybody had a great time.

As ar as pros - I know that John DiToro was in the military, and so was Buddy Hall.

Id be all over this....either a VFW Tourney, or even a Veteran tourney...that would definiately be a fun one to be a part of........IM IN!

Good post (Thumbs Up for all Veterans)

I wonder if nyone ever thoght of this?
is there any veterans of war tournys in pool?
are there any pros on tour that were soldiers before?
just curious

I served in the US Army in the early 70's and won the 14-1 base championship at White Sands Missile Range, NM.
Also a three time winner of the 14-1 Championship of the International Law Enforcement Games which are played every two years in different Countries.
In 2011 New York City is hosting the "World Police & Fire Games"
That is my goal to win the 14-1, 9-ball & 8-ball tournaments. NY is really going to promote this along with 911. It should be a really good thing.
World Champ trick shot artist Stefano Pelinga is a police officer in Italy. He should be playing in the tournaments. Looking forward to meeting him.

Back in the late 70's I won the 6th Naval District 8 Ball Championship twice. As far as actual pros that served, there aren't too many left. The only ones I can think of off hand have already been mentioned.

Manwon was a U.S. Army Paratrooper I believe,

Joey, that was a great group of guys out there in Missouri. Q's Billiards is the name in Saint Robert. The owners are all active military and that is where all the troops go and just hang out if not playing pool.

I think we need to get a head count of how many would actually be willing to travel to Saint Robert Missouri lets say in October/November. If we have enough I would be happy to help out. The last time we were there we raised $$ for the Wounded Warriors Program I would like to see that happen again. maybe 25% of the entry fees plus a couple of raffles etc. I think it would be alot of fun and be for a good cause, I am sure there will be many stories to listen to with a group like that around.
I want to play in it so bad I just went and tried to enlist at Old Navy but no luck.

This sounds like a good thing though let me know I have some contacts.

This is Insane!!!! i Just emailed the that All army sports program and asked why there was no All army Pool team. But they have not gotten back to me and this a was a few weeks ago lol. Thorsten Hohmann Job in the army was to play pool He was on the german all army pool team i wish i had an Mos like that.

I havnt seen no high Caliber players here in Iraq i been judging some shooters off of my speed and there is no one close to me here. Even tho im not not playing the 25 hours a week like i normally do back in Garrison Im still able to break and run a few racks playing about 5 hours a week now.

But there needs to Be a VFW Pool tourny World title or something like that im all for it!!!!!!!!!!
