China Open is about to start, as the second tournament of the WPA Tour 2009.
The field is a lot better than the Philippine Open, but still without players such as Efren Reyes, Fransisco Bustamante, Alex Pagulayan, Ronato Alcano, Dennis Orcullo, Roberto Gomez, Warren Kiamco, Radalfo Luat and Lee Van Corteza.
Isn't about time the WPA make some serious efforts in trying to solve the situation in the Philippines?
Now these players are not allowed to play China Open either, because of this "war" going on.
China Open is one of the "majors" in 2009, but when WPA doesn't do anything/enough to solve the situation in the Philippines, I will not support the tournament by checking updates, visit website, look at brackets etc.
It will be my small, private and quietly boycott of this event, showing my support to the Filipino players who deserve to be in the field.
When a large percentage of the top 20 best players of the world choose NOT to join big payday-tournaments (in Philippines), people should start wondering why and ask questions. These players are not rich, and most of them would cash good in these tournaments, yet they choose to stay away because of Yen Makabenta, BSCP and Raya Sports.
As some might think, they are not forced to "boycott" events like this by their managers, because they could simply just switch side, like Manalo and Gabica have done (3 times now). Yen Makabenta would love to have those players with him, because it would get more attention in the press, attracts sponsors and fill the stands on Raya events. It is the players choice not to join, and the WPA should start digging into this situation...
