Questions I would like to ask......Galveston Big Money Event.

This non communication thing is starting to get a little silly though. How on earth do they not have someone spend five minutes a day here to answer questions on a half million dollar event ? You can bet your sweet azz that I would do my best to answer questions using the medium with the widest reach in the pool world.

Come on guys. We want this to be a success just throw us a bone now and then.

Bravo.

and what he said

So here it is, late afternoon on Tuesday, and still no communication from this group. Sure makes you go...HMMMMMM. In Vegas they were bragging about the Open event being nearly full already (and 200+ teams SIGNED UP already), and how, if the pros didn't fall in line pretty quick, they were likely to get 'skunked' of even being able to play. A lotta bluster, but no data to back it up. I still think that the promoters should SHOW the escrow on the 'guaranteed 1st Place prize money'. If it is escrowed somewhere, then it can be verified. If Trudeau had been forced to do this, there would not have been the fiasco with his event.

According to my numbers, they would have to escrow $185,000 to secure the first place prizes of all the events......

Silence means only one thing........there is definitely some trouble with the event.

They are the ones who said "We have 100 for the one pocket already" I am just curious if that is paid entry or verbal confirmation.

I hope they fill all the fields. I also hope they get this communication issue straightened out.

I flew out to a 1pocket tournament in Vegas at Toby's Cue Club, a few years ago, that had "a lot" of guys signed up...

(insert flashback music)

"...And though I got a super cheap airfare, and would have gone anyway, here's something to consider about this venue, if you should ever be considering traveling there to play in one of their future events: I called Tuesday, *after* the 9ball event had started, to get an idea of the number of players on hand. The girl who answered the phone said, 'Let me ask Toby (the owner)' and I could hear her yelling to him. '40' was the answer. I then asked how many players were *signed up* for the 1pocket. She yelled again to Toby and the answer came back, '64, but there'll probably be more.'

When I got there, there were only 32 names on the nine ball chart. When I handed over my entry fee for the 1pocket, I was number two on the list -- and they only ended up with 32 players for the one hole. Soooooooo, the veracity of the info coming out of there may give you pause."

Pool Fans,

I just spoke to Bobby Rone. After further consideration, he does not think
there is any reason to chat with 6-7 people from AZ Forums at this time.

Ray

ooowww. *Really* bad move.

Sometimes there is only one reporter asking the questions....

But there can be *a lot* of people lookin' at the answers :-)

100 in the one pocket sounds FANTASTIC.

Yes, Joey. It *sounds* really good ;-)

Here is hoping the event goes off beyond the greatest expectations and that all the players have the time of their life.

Good luck to all that attend and play.

Amen. Gold bless us every one.

If you are going to do something . . .

You've asked too many questions Tom. You must have fallen into the "trouble maker" category! LOL.

I tried to get them to answer ALL our questions in one swipe. I guess I'm the King trouble maker.

Ray

Ray,

If you are going to do something you might as well be the best at it, my congratulations!

Hu
(might as well laugh my friend, try to help and most the time before things are done all sides are mad at you!)

What Hu said.

IMO, you've done good work. Thanks, Ray.

Pool Fans,

I just spoke to Bobby Rone. After further consideration, he does not think
there is any reason to chat with 6-7 people from AZ Forums at this time. He said that I could ask him all the questions that I wanted. I was driving at the time so I was unable to ask very many. He was defensive and raised his voice when I suggested that they really needed to address some of the concerns.

I asked him directly how they would determine who was a master level player. He said, "if they are listed on the BCA Master list, they are a master." period. No further determinations would be made! He also claimed to have over 225 teams & over 140 10 ball entrants PAID!!

There will be no further effort by me to organize a chat.

I'm on my phone typing this. I have more to add, but will wait till I get to my laptop.

You may post your questions on their website now!

Ray

You did your best to assist them with this endeavour; however, it is obvious they did not appreciate your efforts. Rep to you anyway.....

Ah...the old "pool player bettin' on the come" scheme! Yep, seen that one plenty of times before! Sadly, it's almost the pro poolplayer motto!:D

I am beginning to suspect that people are going to have to make commitments to the event on faith though, seems that answers to all of our questions are going to be very hard to come by.

No good deed goes unpunished.

My favorite post on thsi thread so far.

I have my own opinion on what is going on here, but I prefer to keep it private for now. I will say this much. I think they are taking a shot at creating another DCC style event. It may or may not work. They may get frustrated and give up, blaming the pool players naturally. Or they may figure out what it took Greg Sullivan years to learn and have another go at it in 2010. Like I said, we'll see.

It takes fortitude and brains to create a successful pool tournament. There is no place for arogance.

I wonder what the limit is on entries?

What if the normal prize fund would make first higher than the guarantee? Would it then be the higher amount?

I plan on playing in the amateur event. I won't send my money though until I know what they are calling an amateur.

The fact that they will make no attempt to rate players for the team event WILL be cluster %#@*...imo. A team of hustlers will win that event. Hopefully they will re-think that one!

Not putting out info and/or answering some of the major question on AZBilliards will be a big mistake. Many players are on here and many more just read, but don't post, including most top pros and their friends. Very bad move IMO. Johnnyt

The BIG HUGE announcement for the Galveston event may be just around the corner and AZ might not be the main page for this announcement.

Inside Pool Mag and possibly Billiards Digest will probably be the release media.

AZBilliards forums may have tainted the feelings of the Big Guys with all of our questions.

Besides, with all the time invested as well as the money, why would they have to answer to anyone?

They might think that all they have to do is put up the dollar figures and the players will just show up and everything will be successful. And, with the way a lot of pool players are, the promoters are probably correct.

Like it or not, the pros are going to show up. It is too big of a payday for them to pass it up. The amateurs will probably show up in droves as well.

As to AZBilliards tainting the feeling of the promoters for this event: I think you may be right. It seems that the brain pool on AZBilliards has always been rather high and sometimes I think it is AZ Billiards that just comes off as arrogant to those who don't follow the Main Forum on a regular basis.

Also, just as a member I see posts that seem far more negative than they need to be but everyone's entitled to their opinion so that's not going to change.

Even though most people have their own agenda, AZBilliards presents a cross-section of the pool world, not just nationally but internationally and their consensus of opinion is worth noting.

Personally, if I were a promoter or a professional pool player, I would not post on this forum unless I fully understood the medium, the audience and had the skills and time to respond and defend myself. :D:D

This forum is better left to those who talk about pool, talk about doing things for pool and the doers of pool should just check in briefly to keep themselves informed about what the talkers say and this will help them keep their scalp in tact and they can continue on with their plans with additional perspectives to ponder. :D

Actually, I haven't found ANY press releases ANYWHERE. I know back in April Cristina DelaGarza did an interview with them for Inside Pool Magazine. She didn't divulge any info right away because there was a "major press release" coming out during the BCA Nationals in May. Does anyone know where the press releases are?
