Galveston $1,000,000.00 tournament

Maybe the promoters could do something to help themselves and clear a few things up, so that folks don't don't have to try and read tea leaves and lamb entrails ;-)

Why bother, I'm sure you and a few others would find fault with whatever they had to say? just sayin'........

Ill be going for sure just got my sponsor to agree to some terms and im in.

Hey guys do you think you could manage two events at the same time? Say 9 ball amature and 8 ball amature or 8 ball amature and 10 ball pro?

Jay,
I could give a rat's azz about what you or anyone else thinks, now or ten years down the road, regardless of the outcome of this tournament.

I want to see this tournament succeed. It's why I mention the positive things that the promoters are doing.

If there are some bumps in the road, so be it.

I want to be able to hold my head up high and say I did my part trying to support this tournament, not to destroy it before it even had a chance to work.

I think the promoters are accomplishing some very positive things. Getting television broadcasting was one of their main goals. They've achieved that and then some. They have ESPN Asia coverage and are according to their web site working on getting U.S. television broadcasting. It will be a chance for the professional players to pick up some new fans and could be one heck of a payday.

Now all the players have to do is show up.

That is a patently unfair accusation and, I suspect you know it. Maybe not, you are so ate up with whatever commentary gig you think you're going to get.

Just because you can't cut the mustard as a spokesmodel (you don't make much of a prestidigitator either :-) doesn't give you the basis for saying anything like this. Legitimate questions have been asked and best wishes for the event and those who choose to attend have been render over and over again, by me, and others with fair questions.

Having questions -- particularly given the size of the event in question and given that we are now in the post-IPT era -- does not make anyone a bad guy. Unfortunately, you seem incapable of appreciating this not too subtle distinction.

Aspiring sports commentators should be smarter than that ;-)

I can understand JoeyA's frustration in his message to you. There are too many people in the pool world that have been burned over the years, and are extremely skeptical of anything that pushes the envelope to what we have today.

We could all do some good now and start spreading the word of this tournament. The larger the field the larger the payouts for all. And a ton more fun as well.

No disrespect to the Derby, but going to Texas in Summer sounds a little better than freezing my butt off in the middle of BFE.

I posted the tournament information on my website and forum to help promote attendance!

I think it has been pointed out to you several times that the promoters' website has a forum, lists several e-mail addresses, and they have said they will address all questions(not to mention the live chat they had.) Just because they haven't done so on this website, you continue to whine about unanswered questions. Here's a suggestion: Stay Home. You can always go next year if this isn't a big con like you seem to feel it maybe.

And as far as Jay H.'s not-so-subtle jabs at this event, it appears to be he is somewhat miffed that they didn't seek him out for his sage advice. Also, he's pretty much on record that he doesn't care for Texans much.

If I was "miffed" about anything, I wouldn't be going! Unlike a few others on here, I do remain unconvinced that this event is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'm hopeful that it does work out for all concerned, players and promoters alike. You may have missed it, but I said on several occasions that pool needs more good events in the USA. Maybe the World Classic will fill the gap somewhat.

As far as the last comment about Texans, I defy you to find one post where I said anything derogatory about Texas or Texans. I happen to think that Texas is the second greatest country in the Western Hemisphere.

It is true that I went to school at O.U. (Oklahoma U.) and we have an ongoing rivalry with U.T. (U. of Texas). Texas-O.U. weekend is one of the biggest blasts of the year in this cross border rivalry. Boomer Sooner forever!

LOL, thats exactly what people said about the IPT. They used the demise of the men's tour and Mackey as reasons to be skeptical after having been burned. Then they said that because of those bad things that happened to our beloved sport, we owed it to ourselves to support the IPT for the betterment of the sport. Where did that get us?

That really hot place below our feet would have to freeze over in order for the bulk of folks to blindly follow the pied piper into another grandiose adventure. Hard proof of claims is needed and people should be leary of anyone making grandiose claims and then not backing them up 100%.

I hope this event goes off without a hitch and don't feel strongly either way (I cannot attend) but I most certainly understand where the "naysayers" are coming from with their questions. I also see where some questions are being answered but others are ignored. The IPT did that too.

Then they align themselves with the IPT (didn't they buy some unused air time or something like that??). Its great that you guys are so supportive of the event but you need the event to back up your support and they're not doing it. Instead of getting frustrated with the event, you get frustrated with the folks asking legitimate questions. I can't wait for this event to be over so all the questions will be answered and not dodged.

I've put some of my cues up for sale and contact people about sponsorship for this event, I will be there for sure. Beer on me Joey?

Neil

That's a deal, Neil but ONLY after you or me are in the money. :D

Where can people view your cues for sale?

Finally! Someone doing something positive to help support the tournament!

There's hope for AZ Billiards Main Forum after all.

WOW! I just noticed that the summer rates ended August 31. Your weekly rate was reduced by 50%. Nice savings.

How far is this from the tournament site?

See you there.

I think it is possible as long as you meet the criteria of what makes an amateur. Why not do the one pocket too?

Do we have an ID to share at this time? ;)

Eurotour!

That's true, Maurice, I have heard that the Europeans are forced to play the Eurotour.

If not they will end up as Efren & the rest of BMPAP, not welcomed to WPA-tournaments...

You would think the Eurotour would make exceptions and provide waivers for situations like this.

These BIG MONEY TOURNAMENTS don't come along every day. :D

Would love to see the Europeans at this slug fest.

I would love to see them there too, but I am pretty certain we will only see Mika Immonen and Thorsten Hohmann of the top European players.

Perhaps Evgeny Stalev from Russia too, since he is in America in August competing at a DP-event.

The EPBF has a strong opinion about this, and will ban the top-players from EPBF/WPA tournaments (Eurotours, World Pool Masters, World Championships, China Open, Qatar Open, Mosconi Cup) if they choose to play a tournament that has conflicting dates with an Eurotour or other major WPA-sanctioned events.

Many of the top players have already confirmed to me that they will, unfortunately not, go to Galveston.

The WPBA made exceptions for its players to be on the IPT and that didn't end too well.

I think all tournaments should get support due to how few there are. That being said, can you not see even a small part of the other side and their valid concerns, especially given the past history of "BIG MONEY TOURNAMENTS"?

I don't think anyone wants you to not support this event and most have wished it well, including those with concerns. They see your side - they only ask that you see theirs.

Actually they did not make exceptions, they determined there was no conflict between the marketing and schedule aspects of the IPT and the WPBA. And for the WPBA it ended the same way it started.

The people putting this on are as far as I've ever heard well thought of in the pool industry. I doubt seriously that they would jeopardize that reputation. They have stated more information about the various aspects of this event than ANYONE ever has to my knowledge at another event. The nay sayers seem to want every i dotted and every t crossed and the number to the escrow account but don't seem willing to do the footwork for themselves. They do seem very willing to bash on JoeyA for encouraging people to attend and actually going out to find information to alleviate(?sp) their concerns. And it does seem as if as soon as one question gets answered two more pop up. I think maybe it's time to just post a thread with a poster the way DP does and let it go at that. Those who attend fine, those who don't fine again. I personally would like to attend but things don't look good for that right now.
