CSI Qualifier Miami cancelled... Such BS

How does someone publicize a tournament for over a month in multiple rooms only to cancel without notice. It's the responibility of the promoter to notify of status changes to avoid having people show up to a room and realize that there's no action. This Is total bs. I made plans not to go to the mezz classic to play the qualifier. I along with all the players who showed up to New wave billiards in Hialeah are extremely aggravated and dissappinted with the management in charge of this tournament. CSI has some serious explaining to do.
 
rayshooter22...I understand your aggrevation. However, PM'ing or telephoning Holly, who is the national CSI coordinator, BEFORE posting your complaint here, is the proper course of action (before publicly blasting CSI). She is easily accessible, and no doubt could answer your questions.

Pretty sure your beef would be with the local room owner. CSI has no control over what happens at the local level.

same thing happened here for the CSI 9 ball qualifier. 3 people showed up, so it was cancelled. The one pocket and 14.1 qualifiers went off with like 6 people each. We were all expecting a ton of people to show up. The room owner was told that there were a lot of people from out of town that should show up, but sadly, there were only like two, lol.

For any players who drove to New Wave Billiards in Hialeah, I’m deeply sorry for any inconvenience this caused you. I was not aware until early this morning via this thread that the qualifier was cancelled. I’ve spoken to the owner and the young woman, a player in Florida, who organized the qualifier to ascertain what happened.

Please know that we will make every attempt to not have this happen again, however the room owners who graciously schedule these qualifiers are equally disappointed when the turnout is low and face the situation that New Wave Billiards owner did this morning. Only three people showed up and he had to make the decision that he did.

The NCS is in its first year and we are working hard to make this opportunity for all players around the country solid and strong, but it takes time and it takes player’s learning about it and showing up. The NCS 8-Ball and 14.1 were good beginnings and we believe in this program, where players compete at a less expensive and local qualifier to play on the national level.

It also supports the local rooms…we don’t want them to close and too many sadly have. I know of others that are on the verge as I talk to room owners every day. I personally thank you for caring enough to be there and I ask all of you to think about what pool will be like without the larger rooms around the U.S. That is one reason why the NCS was launched.
In addition to supporting the rooms, the NCS 9 and 10-Ball National Championship give players the opportunity to make money on the national level, but also the chance to move on to the U.S Open 10-Ball Championship next May, which is a pro level event and will have $25,000 added.

I read and feel your frustration and care as much about one person as I do thousands. I ask that you not give up on trying for the NCS 9 and 10-Ball Nationals. Below is the list of the remaining Florida qualifiers. I hope to see your name and to have the opportunity to meet and thank you in person for your commitment to the game.

**One last thing, I would like to address the comment from Snipershot: yes there was one other qualifier this weekend, in PA that is being rescheduled for August 15-16 due to low turnout. By sheer accident both the NCS PA qualifier and another event organized by Alan Hopkins, who I regard highly, both took place this weekend.The conflict caused the low turnout. I wish the players and Alan a wonderful weekend and hope they are at the Jordan Pool Hall in Whitehall, PA next weekend.

Working together versus tearing down is what will strengthen this sport. Anyone who behaves otherwise does not honestly care about the wellbeing of pool, but only of themselves.

That'll teach ya youngster...CALL the room that week to make sure the event is going to happen as planned.

I have a hard time believing there was more than a handful of players there concidering they dont drive 1/2 hour north to play in one of thest weekly tournaments in the state, but what do I know?
 
First of all, I'd like to apologize in case I came off the wrong way in my original post. I was merely trying to state my discontent with the lack of communication with the matter described. I did not mean any ill-regards to either Holly or CSI.

Secondly I'd like to thank Holly for taking her time out to address the situation so eloquently. I appreciate your feedback as well as the schedule of qualifiers in my are that are still to be played. I plan to attend on or more of these events.

I wanted to mention my conversation with the staff member at New Wave Billiards. He had said that the woman who was running the tournament had called from St. Petersburg FL, and said the tournament was cancelled. Apparently she had said that because no players had called and registered with her, there would be no event held. However, no where on the flyers or advertisements posted in the two New Wave pool rooms was there any mention of a contact person or sign up procedure. Maybe this is something to consider for future events.

As for the post by Voodoo Daddy, I went to this poolroom during the week and spoke to the managers directly. They told me to be at their establishment around noon on Saturday. According to them, the tournament was still going to be held.

This is my hometown, and I just wanted to see a National Qualifier go off here. It would have been a pleasure to represent the players from my area in a National Tournament. That seems like it won't happen through this qualifier. However I hope that there will be another held in the near future somewhere in Miami. Thanks for every one else's feedback. Well if you want players to show up then you should pay up regardless of turnout then the players get word of that and say let's go to the csi tourny they pay up! I think this would attract players. Players go where the money is.

As I understand it, the room owners would be the ones to make that decision.

CSI provides the path to the National Championships and puts on the National Championships. They don't run the qualifiers, they are run by the local pool rooms who have the most to gain from having an event in their room. Most room owners just can't put up the money if they don't have any turn out. They depend on having customers in their rooms to cover the added money. Certainly to follow through with the financial commitment to send one or two players to the National Championships, would mean that they would have to add that money even if they have 3 players. It would be too much of a loss.

However, I do wish that the rooms owners would do more to promote the events in their area. Obviously, there are some who do, and I am not discrediting that, but I know that in Dallas the promotion was weak. David Reyes (BigDoc78), who works for me at OB Cues, ran the events and did what he could to promote them. There was still a very low turnout. I don't know exactly what the rooms should do, but they need to get the word out somehow. The only pool players in Dallas that really knew about it were the ones directly related to a few pool rooms and the leagues in North Dallas.

I don't exactly know what the answers are, but I hope we can find it. The NCS is a good thing and pool will suffer if it fails.

So csi puts up nothing? If i own a poolroom and they want to have an event their i do all the advertising, promoting for them? How do they provide a path? When im doing all the weed whacking, and stump removal? Or maybe they don't call me for an event i call them? If i call them then i could see most of the wieght being on me maybe.

CSI does all the National Advertising! They put on the actual National Championship event at the Golden Nugget. They arrange for all the coverage and sponsorship. They also print out large full color banners for each room that is hosting a qualifier.

Rooms put on tournaments of this size all the time with no connection to anything bigger. They promote and spread the word for these events to get the word out and get people into their rooms. They do it because it makes money for them. When they fill their rooms with customers they make money and everyone has a good time. It's a win/win! There are some rooms who are doing this for the NCS qualifiers too, and they are having success. I know that our room put the posters up, in a terrible place where nobody could see them, and that is about it. They only had 9 players, but still put on the event and added the money, so they lost money on the whole thing. They probably won't want to try it again, but it could be so different.

If anything, the chance to play in a National Championship should create demand for players to want to play in the qualifiers. Just imagine, you could pay a reasonable entry fee, under $100, and have a chance to play for the National Championship! Plus, there is as much as a $32000.00 purse too! And all you spent in entry fees is under $100. Ask Brandon Shuff!

Knowing Holly, if she could be in every city to promote these qualifiers then she would be there. But, she is just one person. She needs the help of all of us to help spread the word about the National Championship Series.

I truly believe that once everyone knows about this, you will have full field events all over the country. You might even see qualifiers for the qualifiers! We just have to keep spreading the word.

Well then i guess it's up to the players to show up. But i can't see any players traveling to a tourny that may not happen knowing they won't get compensated for their journey. At least not me. Sounds like the room owners need to come up with some compensation of some sort for the 2 or 3 people that show up. Who knows it's a tough racket i guess. Don't get me wrong i want to see them succeed but i've heard of several of these events not going off and it just makes things look bad.

It's all about Communication. If we can reach out to each of the pool communities so that everyone is aware of these events, there will be no shortage of players who come out to participate. I know here in Miami, not many people people knew about the events. That, coupled with the major tournament happening this weekend in Orlando, led to the cancellation. But these tournaments have tons of potential. In Florida there is a myriad of solid amateur players who turnout for tournaments. Tony Crosby's KF Cue's amateur tournaments pump out at least 60 players every event. So there's definitely a venue here. I know that CSI is doing great things for pool and i hope that in the future the local pool rooms can do what they can to ensure that these events go down.
 
Royce...tap, tap, tap! It seems like there are always people out there looking for "something for nothing". CSI is in it's infancy, and it will take lots of support by poolplayers who LOVE pool, to make it successful. Hopefully there are enough of us, to go around!
