Why don't champions match up more?

you say one thing and then backtrack. you say only a couple pros make money now its dozens .
another thing you know it all, when i was put in the open it wasnt because i had money stashed .it was because my sponsor at the time borrowed my at the time life savings of 44,000 for a one month business deal.
it took me a lawyer and 4 years to get the money back.
it ruined my pool game as i quit tourneys for 2-3 years and ruined my marriage.
so dont be talking like i tricked people into staking me, because my money was tied up for 4 years and i can prove it.
also i would bet efren has made more than jack white .
i like max but the reason hes broke is because he never played for money and hasnt won enough tourneys.
scott you do nothing but say negative things about proplayers and its getting old.
you know im not as entertaining as you but if i smacked you right in the mouth ,i know alot of pros that would find that very entertaining.
you have pissed me off with the whole get people to stake me and acting broke while i have money stashed b.s.
you need to know what your talking about you no talent fatass .
im done with the az insults. the next time i tell you off will be to your face thanks.
night night scott

Walk a mile in another mans shoes....one of my closest friends Mike Massey and Tom Rossman work as hard as anyone out there on the green felts and make a good living.....and on similar note, since Mike Sigel is one of the greatest players ever to play the game, why isn't he able to make cues better than all the cuemakers he can beat, you sound like a man who still has a little growing up to do by the way you express yourself, you sound a little like the way another great straight pool player used to sound on this forum that has since toned it down. I have no dog in this fight, yet they way you express yourself, I've probably heard your exact dialogue/attitude 100 times in my life in the pool room. I would be surprised if Matchroom picked you with your attitude over Earl, your above comments are almost earlesque.

I find it odd that champions don't match up and play more offen. I would think they would be playing constantly. Most after they getting put out of a tournament, c-ya later. Just a thought...

I believe its been mentioned before, but most American players are spread all over the country, so you have travel expenses just to play a game. Pretty sure it was John S. who said it before that if all the top American players were in one place for some length of time and gambled even small stakes, that they'd be equally as sharp as the Pinoys.

Our country isn't laid out for the champions to always match up against each other. Plus I wouldn't think they are looking for other champions to play. I'd guess most of the top players aren't usually traveling the country looking for games, not saying they won't take a game if it comes to them. The internet killed most of the action that players used to be able to get. The money people were willing to gamble hasn't kept up with inflation, people were betting a 100 in the 70s which was good money then. The same 100 is bet now and doesn't have the same spending power.

Though I do understand and can appreciate the thoughts of others, I believe it is the American pool culture that is the culprit of why pool cannot advance in the States, IMO. Pool is cruel to its own, especially in America.

There is sometimes little to no appreciation for professional-caliber play on pool forum(s).

I can remember vividly when one forum "regular" ripped a pro player to shreds on a forum. Things were written that were cruel, unfounded, and, in some cases, unadulterated lies, all in an effort to, by his own admission, "have fun."

Later that year, the pro player was competing in the U.S. Open, and after his match on the TV table concluded, the first person in line to get his autograph was the same forum "regular" who ripped him to shreds previously.

On the one hand, people seem to take joy in putting pool players who compete professionally down at every turn, and on the other hand, they're the very ones who love to sit back and watch the show.

Dance, monkey, dance!

In the movie "Good Will Hunting" the professor says when talking to Will about their math abilities, "There are a handful of people in the world who can tell the difference between me and you, the problem is i'm one of them." Maybe it is like that. Only ten or so people can tell the difference between Scott, Efren, Cliff, etc. Other than the winning percentage we laymans have no way of knowing who is better. Just a thought.

Wow, John...Your reading comprehension is something else. You "read" things into what I say, that appear that I am talking TO you, or ABOUT you. Neither is true. I didn't backtrack on anything. I spoke specifically about Max, and the fact that he got support because he was honest and needed it (you apparently think that because I said he was honest, and not trying to 'get over' on anybody, that I meant you do...WRONG assumption). That is no reflection on you. I mentioned that Purdman put you into the U.S. Open a few years ago. That's a fact. I don't know anything about any $44K, and could care less. If you made a bad business deal, that "ruined" your pool game, and your marriage...I'm sorry...but that's not my fault either. What pro players do I badmouth? Show me ONE post where I've badmouthed ANY professional player...EVER! Even when you attack me, I still don't badmouth you...although I certainly have the provocation. Now you want to "smack me in the mouth"!:nono: You have plenty of opportunity, as you've seen me at numerous events around the country. However, that would land you in jail, charged with assault & battery. You know what happens when you ASSUME, John? You make an ASS out of YOU, and me. Get it? Now...if you want to 'hash' things out, like a man (which, in case you don't understand it, means TALK THINGS OUT like an adult), I'll be happy to meet with you. Oh, and as you say...have a nice day!

I must say that this thread has taken a turn in a different direction. I'm not so much bashing pros for not gambling, claiming them to be broke, anything. I do play and gamble as much as possible. Mostly on my own cash. I do know that people love action. I think it would be a treat to see a couple of champions woofing up a game and then getting down. I love pool. I must say I'm not much on leagues, but do love that people do enjoy them and love the fact that it brews pool fans. I'm not much on tournaments, but it is cheap action, is demanding of your best game and gathers players. I love action games though. It just seems to me that pros could match up more is all. Thanks to www.theactionreport.com for bringing us the games that they have. Sorry that this thread turned into such a battle.

Me too, George! I think everything you said is true! I find it quite humorous that John Schmidt takes my comment (which you, and several other posters agreed with) completely out of context, and begins a verbal battle of wits...yet made no mention of, or pointed fingers at, any of the other posters who felt the same way.

Oh yeah...and TAR rocks! They have done GREAT things for bringing some amazing pool matches to the pool public at large! Thanks Justin and Chad!

your the one who cant read or play lol.i never said i wanted to smack you in the mouth ,i said it would entertain the pros if i did.they cant stand you either weve talked and they read the crap you say.im the only one dumb enough to make your name anymore known than it barely is by arguing with you.
also for you to get on here and say you dont badmouth the tourney players is such a joke and validates why i think your a schmuck.
i dont need, want,or care about you liking or respecting me.
we can just agree that the other is a moron and let it go .my life will go on without everybody on here liking me.
i like and respect many on here but im not afraid to call out the shit talkers and your at the top of the list.
i asked somebody if they watched the trickshot guys.their reply, once youve seen one show its all the same.
funny thing is i know guys that would watch archer, reyes 50 days in a row. you know why because its real ,skillfull and different everytime.

another thing archer could entertain beginners and so could you. archer could entertain real good players can you say the same .i mean your always saying your an entertainer and showman.im sure beginners are real impressed by you but im not.
archer for example could do anything you can in or around a poolroom but you have no chance doing what he does.
thats my take on you and im sticking to it.i only say all this because for years you have belittled the pro players and im done letting you get away with it.

its bad enough people pay you 600 a head for lessons they could get out of a pool for dummies book for 9 dollars.then you have the nerve to always talk about how only 2-3 guys make any money in pool.trying to make yourself look superior .give me a break.

John...I make every attempt to talk civilly to you, but all you can do, is show animosity. I've asked you to provide ONE single link to ANY post I've ever made, badmouthing tournament players, or professional players. Apparently you are unable to do that (go figure, since they don't exist). LOL You're right, almost all of us here (me included) would watch Archer or Efren 50 days in a row, given the opportunity. That said, if you mistakenly believe that the trickshot guys have no skill...well, that says a lot about you! You could learn some of those super duper masse' stroke shots if you wanted to (by taking a lesson from Massey, Rossman, Eric Yow, or Jamison Neu), and it would add to your variety. But you're too good, and know it all already. One thing I know, as an instructor, is that it's impossible to teach someone who already "knows it all"! LMAO One of the things we tell our students in pool school is this..."Don't let what you already know get in the way of learning something new!" Do you really believe that I care what you think about me personally? I'm friends with many of the professional players...and it's due to mutual respect. You get what you give. I hear what's spouting out of your mouth...PROVE it. Show me where I have badmouthed pro players, John...EVER!

Is that true what they say about big feet? :shocked2:

Is there any other sport where champions risk their own money in playing against other champions?
That's the sad state of pool.
Shouldn't we pay champions play each other?

They do matchup often in the Philippines but Alex, Dennis, Busta, Ronnie and company are staked . So, they are really getting paid to play.

He would of needed weight in the late 70's, he was only 4 yrs old.

That was kinda my joke/point him pickin' on me during my later years when my playing priority diminished and my family matters were of utmost importance.

I wanna put the skinny gangsta guy in the box with the dirt biker!!

If they wanna put up their own money, fine, but they will both get a nice payday either way. One will get more than the other. They will play for the difference.

Let's get these matches going!!! Lets get these guys the good paychecks they deserve.

Maybe then, more will be ready to match up for our enjoyment!!

John, Chris.......call me now!! Paychecks waiting!
