Anyone use tip covers?

I was watching the "What's inside the case" vids and saw one with Ralph Souquet and he has some tip covers that his dad makes.

Does anyone sell these or know of anything similar. I like the idea of keeping chalk out of the bottom of the case and I don't like the idea of wiping the chalk off the tip everytime I break down my cue.

I have some soft black plastic caps that I have used but I never could get into the habit as it was just too much of a pain in the butt to take them off and on. If I had them and jp's to remove/put on people would be constantly waiting on me to get ready to play or ready to leave. I can't find the link where I got the plastic covers but I had to buy a package of 100.

I don't even use my JP's. I wonder when they will start selling butt and shaft sleeves to protect them from the inside of the case?

It only takes 2-3 seconds to wipe chalk off the tip before putting it away, probably less time than to find a tip cover and put it on. I keep a scrap of old t-shirt in my case for this purpose, folding it over on itselt to keep the chalk dust from releasing into the pocket. Pretty simple solution if you ask me.

i agree completely. i often don't even use my joint protectors. the reason i bought and carry my ridiculously heavy instroke - it protects everythhing. and if i have to, i'll wipe my tip with my finger and just wipe that on the inside bottom of the shirt i'm wearing (not a favorite method - but in a pinch:grin:). i've had that instroke for almost a year and there isn't a hint of blue in my case. this idea just seems like something to suck the money out of your pockets.
 
I saw this in the movie Under Seige and used his idea. I use condoms to cover my cue tips, this protects them from rain as well as from scuffing. Don't use lambskin, they corrode the leather, especially water buffalo hide.

I use my joint protectors because they match my cue and give it a good look.

Only takes 2 seconds to wipe your tip off. I put my shaft tip down, so wouldn't want a little collection of covers at the bottom of my case.

I will tell you that putting your shaft tip side down in your case really works against you.

The weight of the shaft is all put on the tip, resulting in compacting all the fibers together to the point of hindering the application of chalk.

I watch some players use special tools to lift up the fibers, so chalk applies well. They then put their shaft in they're case tip side down...Undo-ing all this prior tip tool work.

Even if you don't use a tip cover...It makes more sense to put the shaft, tip side up in your case. JMHO
 
No offense but........this has got to be one of the gheyest things I have ever heard of. Next, somebody will start selling cases to go over your case to keep it clean.:rolleyes:

There is one born every minute I guess.

Yeah, hitting your tip on a hard resin ball a few hundred times won't do near the compacting that putting a shaft in the case tip-down will do.:confused:
