Galveston Trip Report in pictures.

This tournament is the NUTS! I so wish I had planned my vacation time better so I could have gone. Really dogged that one. Hopefully they will do this again next year because this tournament sounds like its panning out to be the best one all year in the USA.

If we would have had more info ahead of time, I think a lot more people would have been there. I hope they do have it again!

I have to think a lot of us were taking the wait n see approach. And I'm still waiting. Maybe the next time they will provide more info out front to promote and inform.

Justin give us something, I am dying for gossip.(not gossip,
stuff that is happening) lol (please)

Great pics man. Maybe you can get some pics when fans are actually sitting in the bleachers. I am curious o see the spectator turnout.

Majic,

He did take the pictures when the fans were sitting in the bleachers!

The bleachers were way overkill. I can't imagine this event can keep going with things like these bleachers. Way to much money out the door!

All we can do is hope that they have learned some valuable lessons. I am sure with more information and advertising ahead of the tournaments, the turnout would be much better next year.

You are right on target....a little more info, promotion, addressing issues, and support with updates on AZ months ago and most of us within 500 miles would have been there....IMHO, the turn-out would have doubled and the fields would have been near full....

Exactly! I would have been there, but didn't have enough info to take a week off of work to go. :(

My fingers are crossed, that's for sure!

I sure hope so, Majic! :) I have a good feeling about next time - I just hope there is a next time.

Alright Justin, I know there are HOT women in Texas, hell there a bunch right here on the board. Where are the pics?

Isn't this the event Joey was talking about since the Derby City?
Him and Efren and a long car ride?
OMG what event am I thinking about???

LOL, Yes, this is the same event Joey has been talking about.

But the players who would play in most of the events did not get enough details provided to us (the amateur players) even two full months in advance for us to make plans to play in the amateur events. And now I don't even see a women's team 8ball event listed on the brackets, and I heard the doubles was delayed a day.

I can't take a week off from work for what ifs. When we did finally get some answers, it was either too late to ask off for work or there still wasn't enough details.

Even when the website was open for questions it was still a little iffy on details. Someone even mentioned to me the other day they wanted to go but couldn't figure out when to schedule their flight back so they didn't attend.

It is unfortunate - a lot more people would have gone. But, it's all a learning experience and I hope they have future events because we all know more info based on what others have experienced.

Don't you guys see a little pattern going on here. They kept hounding the pool world for months saying this was going to be a big "Million Dollar Tournament" just like alot of have in the past, and what has happened, they've done the exact same thing. They money was supposedly all locked up and promised and now that the event was here they're dropping their prize money like crazy. The bad part is its not like they decided to drop the payouts a month or two ago where people could change their minds about coming, they did it the day before the tournament when all of these players (especially amateurs) had paid their money and expenses!!! That is completely unacceptable. Is it that hard just to have a well-run tournament with decent payouts and build on it, rather than shooting for the stars your first event and going six-figures in the hole? This kind of thing will continue to happen as long as pool players are happy with scraps rather than a meal.

Come now buddy, thats a hell of alot of money they are paying out for no one showing up! At the same time...we are very gunshy since the IPT...that was to pool like 9/11 was to the country. Every one was outraged. From what I hear from all my people that went, it was a great venue and with some adjustments(if you don't make mistakes you aint doin S**T) it should dam well be another Derby city...it would be great if eventually they have 4 huge tourneys like this one for every quarter of the year. These big star studded events are the future of the game. No money will ever come about it until major corporate sponsorship. If full fields had showed up, I'm sure the money would have been right...they would have a lynch mob after them. That all said, god bless the people who at least tried to do something for us.

I wonder if your opinion would be the same if you had gone down with a damn good 8 ball team, dropping $300 on a plane ticket, $500-600 on a hotel, $200-300 on food and who knows what else and had a good chance at winning that $50,000, only to get there and find out it had been dropped by over 80%!!!!!! And again, why all of the falsehoods, just decide on and promote good payouts, quite with the "Million Dollar" crap, its not realistic or very business savvy.

Mama did not raise a fool..

Steve,

I completely agree.. It's the same old crap, different tourney.. I don't see how they can "guarantee" $$ and cut it down by an astronmical percentage just a day before the tourney. If I had put up all of the expenses and time to go and found out after I arrived that the money was not actually "guaranteed" as stated. I'd be really ticked off.

I must say, I was not one bit surprised though, I'd have been much more surprised if the payouts were as advertised. I ain't no fool!

Peace, Joe

Well, I am hoping that next year we get to play in it.
I am hoping that they have an old woman bracket
for me to play in.

Want to hear something else pretty F'd up? I heard that the two womens teams that showed up just got thrown in with the mens teams!!! Think they weren't pissed?!! Whats really hilarious is that since the promoters are already in the hole, they should have just paid what they had initially promised and next year would have been monumental, you can't buy enough advertising to equal that!!!

They changed in the one-pocket only when approached by a large group of players (led by Shannon D., I was told). In this instance I would say you have to listen to the players if you want them to come back next year. But I agree that Efren has a very legitimate beef. He, and all the other Phillipinos had a long trip to get here and he should have been playing for $25K. The other reductions(I've only heard others say they reduced some others) are disappointing and the result of field size I guess.
There have been problems, especially with communications of entry qualifications and payouts. I just hope there is a next year and it will be bigger and better.

Sorry I hi-jacked your thread Justin, please please post more
pictures and stories from The Galveston Open.

thanks
