Mosconi Cup 2009 - first 3 Euro players selected

I would love to see Thorsten in Team Europe, he had quiete a good year I guess, however the last two spots might be discussed... Additionally to Thorsten, here would be Imrad Majid, who played pretty constantly well on the Euro Tour, as did Marcus Chamat and Mika wasn't doint to bad on the big events either I think ....

You don't beat Reyes because you're only good at one pocket. It just doesn't work that way. Shannon has one of the most complete games out of everyone. He knows exactly what to do in all spots regarding the game of pool. I think he is in the class of Efren, Mccready and Strickland. I don't know his track record for nine-ball, but I know he can match up with anyone in that game. And in a team discipline, your decisions and pocketing skills go a long way. I would be free wheeling if I knew Daulton is right behind me for the next shot.

Banking is easy? Think about it, shannon is from NC. The best players in the nation were from bay area. All the guys that I've met that were from those days raise their eyebrows watching Daulton hit balls. The only reason the title wall isn't saturated with his name is because Efren stepped in and snatched a few.

Can you post the 9 ball titles that Efren snatched from Daulton in the finals? I can find them. Any major 9 ball event with all the top guys playing will do.

Shannon is a strong player and probably needs to be in the discussion for the spot we pick. The rankings wont get him there because he runs a tour and misses several events a year. Matchroom wont pick him because he's too nice a fella.

I think Schmidt will get the nod and I also feel like Oscar is going to play his way in. Archer looks pretty good and Im sure will be on the squad. No clue for the last spot, too many close games.

That Euro team is rock solid top to bottom and outright scary. No matter who we get on the team they will be underdogs to that type of roster. Tough action for the USA.

I'd like to see Stevie and/or Schmidt on the team; I've also been really impressed with Oscar's game lately.

With the spots still up for grab it should make for a great US Open tourney though.

And someone mentioned earlier that no one in the US has equaled Mika lately. Didn't Corey own him for a while? Have they matched up recently? I'd be interested to know since Mika's been playing so well lately...

hi

Agreed! Stevie Moore is another good choice for new talent on America's team. Johnny, Shane, Hillbilly, Hatch and Moore. Ding ding, I think we have a winner! But you and I know our team will never look like this. Not unless I'm the captain and get to pick a couple of the guys.

It's hard to leave Schmitty off any American squad. But his mind has to be right. On his good days he's got awesome talent. But when he goes into a funk, he is very vulnerable. And Shannon is fearless! I'd take him or Hillbilly depending on who is playing the best right now. I sure wish there were still six players on a squad like there used to be.

i wasnt aware that im vulnerable and my mind goes into a funk sometimes.
either way ill be at my best if on the team.my life is in order and i will practice hard .we have a chance to make 20,000 and represent usa. my family and my best friend bill would be there for support and i think team usa can gel and do well this year.whether im on team or not good luck usa.

I hate to say it, but it's doubtful the Americans can put together a team this strong. I think it's time for new blood on the American team. Keep a strong veteran like Johnny and Shane of course. Then chose between Schmitty, Hillbilly, Corey, Rodney, Oscar, Gabe and Jeremy. Personally I like Gabe and Jeremy together. Their chemistry is good and that's good for the team. Then I'd take Schmitty or Hillbilly. That's a close call. I really like Charley's enthusiasm! He'd get the whole team fired up. Any way you look at it the Americans are big underdogs again this year.

That is one monster team Roy! Hard to match them man for man. Go USA!:)

Ok, ok, ok, guys. I can see where this is going. Neither of you nits are willing to bet even on this year's Mosconi Cup, huh?

Archer, Van Boening, Schmidt, Bryant, Strickland. That would bring experience and fresh legs also. Besides we need someoneon our side thats as big as Drago :) an equalizer.

We don't even know who the team is! you want us to bet on just a flag? I can't wait to see you in Vegas. Don't worry about trying to find me I will find you. Bring your money too and not of that fake euro crap real money.

Wow! If either of Mika Immonen, who is sizzling hot of late, and Nick VanDenBerg, European nine ball champion and runnerup at the World Pool Masters are not on Team Europe, then Europe will be doing the US a big favor. We shall see.

just to throw it out there

How come no one mentions Shawn Putnams name for the mosconi cup. He is in the top of the rankings and has play for the US befor when they actually won the event?

just curiouse

i do like
shane
archer
moore
schmidt
duel

but gonig off consistency and ranking Putnam should be considered. also hillbilly and hatch

Roy we're gonna have to wait to see what the heck team we come up with before I commit blindly to gambling the mosconi cup.

John, I'm sorry if my comments offended you. You might also notice that I said you have awesome talent and would make a good addition to the team. On a personal level I think you're a great guy and I'm always pulling for you when you play. I think you know that too.

I am quite willing to discuss my reasoning on here if you'd like me too. You may prefer to hear it in person, or not at all. John, I don't say things in a vacuum just be to be making noise. I have what I consider valid reasons for making the statements I make. I'd be glad to share them with you.

Yes, of course, but I can feel how you guys are now building the odds slowly up in your favour ;)

Americans are lock artists brother you know this...here are my lines...

Ralf is laying 2:1 playing anyone, Darren Appleton is laying 4:3 everytime he's in the box, Neils is laying 3:2 and a game on the wire, Mika is giving up 8:5 when he plays a radio, and whoever else makes it certainly will be giving up a game on the wire with an even betting line.

If you are really good at fractions then you also know the odds for the doubles and team games.

That's what it looks like for me if you want me to bet without knowing the team. Thats still probably what it will look like once I do know the team.

Go team USA!

lotta fun

US is gonna get rocked again??? damn... not a great chance.

I think as ppl mentioned earlier, we need team-play, and chemistry between the players.

rodney, shane, Schmidt should be the core members
then hillbilly, Archer, Jeremy, maybe Dennis.

But no more Earl the Pearl please. He is entertaining to watch for his meltdowns but not when you want the team to win.

You can see the style of play from the list.

The Euros are well groomed, well cut, all business.

The US is fast and loose, stroke and push.

fair enough. maybe i have been in a funk at times, for reasons you arent aware of.
like a divorce,a guy owing me 50,000 and me having to get a lawyer to get it back.
frankly ive played in 97 tourneys in my life and have won if my math is right around 30 times.
so when all is said and done i must not be in a funk that much.
i think your a good guy jay ,no hard feelings .

I would like to see the USA put the most competetive team in place to try and win again on our home soil. I wanna see Earl on the team personally as well as you John. I know there might be some friction having both of you on this team as I have read THIS thread regarding the mosconi cup, but think it would be great to have both of you on this team, and I am a fan of both of you. I think Earl can still play great and I thought he played well in Galveston. My pics:

Shane
Johnny
Earl
John Schmidt
Rodney
