My Last BB Post.

This is the last you'll hear from me about my game on the bar box…I promise.

A year ago today I bought a 7' Valley table and started playing again after 5 years, two strokes, and 2 heart attacks. My goal at first was to get back to or close to "B" again. The first week or so I averaged about 3 or 4 balls a rack playing 9-ball against the ghost with BIH. I couldn't run close to a full rack in 14.1. Playing the ghost 10-ball…forget about it, I never came close to winning a game. My pocketing and position skills were that of a "-D" player.

Anyway to make a long story short, I'm finished with the Valley BB. I'm buying an oversize 8'. A 9' really doesn't fit right where I have to put it w/o moving posts and extending the patio.

After a year on the BB I've come a long way. I ran 96 balls in 14.1, but never close to that again (about 51 was my highest after that). I slaughter the 9-ball ghost with BIH. I can beat the 9-ball ghost in a race to 5 W/O BIH about 50% of the time. I can beat the 10-ball ghost more that 50% of the time with BIH. So now my goal is to do as well on the bigger table.

I want to thank the people I bought books and dvd's from, they helped a lot. I want to thank Dr Dave, Jeanette Lee, Joe Tucker, Ray Martin, plus TAR and all the other streamers that allowed me to watch the pros and learn. But most of all I want to thank all my friends on AZ that answered all my silly questions over the past year. I could never have done it w/o you. Thank you all. Johnnyt

As always, I enjoy your posts Johnnyt. Do you have a table already picked out? If so, drop us a line from time to time on the specifics. I don't play much on a BB so I don't know how the respective ghosts would compare. I look forward to your comments on the subject.

you beat the ghost 50% of the time without ball in hand. that's pretty good. do you rack them the same every rack? i'm lucky to get a shot at the 1 ball 50% of the time. never mind pocketing a ball

Johnnyt,

I wish my game would have improved as fast as yours did. It sounds as though you may have to set the bar higher! I've pretty much hit the wall on my improvement. I will probably not get much better than I am today. At 56+ years old, bad eyesight, surgery on both shoulders, chronic lower back pain, stiff neck (not diagnosed, but probably vertabrae damage), and heart problems too, I think I'll just be happy to still be playing AND enjoying my time with pool.

Good luck to you with your new table!!!

Yes I rack playing the ghost the Joe Tucker way. Only difference on a Valley BB is you can make the one-ball in the side and one or both wing balls in the corners. Sometimes the back ball banks back in a corner also. I almost always have a shot at the 1-ball in the head corner if it doesn't go in the side or a shot at the 2-ball in the foot corner pocket if the 1-ball went. In 60 % or lower humidity I get a nice spread and I'm out. Johnnyt

Johnny, congrats on the new table and good luck...

Thank you, but have not found one yet at a price I like. As cheap as I am I'll only look for a week or two then up what I'm willing to pay and get one with tears in my eyes and a thiner walet. Johnnyt

Look out if you plan on hustlin the pool table set-up guys. Generally, they play better than the UPS dude.

You need the big table to let your legs out, young feller.

I know the guy that did the last recover on my BB. He's about a "C" player...maybe. Does good table work though. I'd even play him on the new table before I even know the gaff points on it. That's just me...honest John. Johnnyt

go johnny go

I am a AZ lurker, I really enjoy your posts. Seems everywhere I go I see you logged in there. I also had some heart problems (5 bypass) at 61 this year but think I have pretty well recovered. I love to play pool and enjoy all games. I always look at posts by Johnnyt they are always enjoyable and informative. Good Luck Johnny!!

Thank you for the invite Eric. I just might take you up on a few days of that week at some point.

I will continue to post. Just not on the BB that most seem to hate so much. When I get the new table (new to me) I'll give updates on my game for those that enjoy reading them. Johnnyt

Johnny, each and every post you but up has been very enjoyable. Just keep them comeing , Im sure your game will improve even more that you are challenging yourself more and more. Getting a bigger table is a good idea, as long as you have interest in the game and continue to try to better your game the only out come is to be a better player and that is what you wanted all along am I right ? I to know how it is to try to come back after health issues. I had to learn how to walk , talk and litterally do everything over again, I remember laying in my hospital bed hooked up to a ventilator not being able to talk or barely move and I seen my wife walk in with one of my old freinds and pool buddies, and him telling me to get better so we could play cause our team needs me. But you know that meant alot to me and I will never forget that, I never thought I would live through out that, let alone pick up a pool cue. But Im back to probably 80% and that makes me happy as does each and every day I can still play.I cant play like I used to but it's comeing along . So anyhow I look forward to reading more from you so keep them comeing hope you continue to whip the ghost @ss :grin-square: <<<<ED

I love to hear stories like yours. As a nurse on a Ortho/Neuro floor and taking care of many that were in bad auto crashes, motorcycle wrecks, strokes and eveything in between I have talked to many of the higher ups in rehab and sports injuries. They all said that playing pool would be a BIG bonus and help most rehab faster, yet nothing is ever done to promote it. No $$$ in it for them. Thank you for the kind words. Keep hitting them straight. Johnnyt
