what aiming system do u use? and what level player r u?

the reason im asking is im not sure what i do. i use to aim with just my ferrule. i looked at the ob then concentrated on aiming with my ferule. basically steering the ob's in with english. i was a strong A player but wasnt completly consistent. i could run a rack or two but then miss a shot u shouldnt miss.
then i moved up to a AA player. and i believe i use angles to aim. i stood back on the shot. looked at the angle then steped in. aiming off the shaft. my consistency got better but i think my precition shape wasnt as good.
and now. u guessed it. i bought the perfect aim dvd. it really helped my cuts but it threw the rest of my game off.
i talked to a few master players and it sounds like they aim for spots on the ob. i know jeff carter(nonactive pro) aims cb edge to ob edge.
my game is all messed up right now. when i was shooting good i wasnt sure what i was aiming at. if it felt right then i shot it in. im willing to learn a new system that the most consistent players use. or just go back to the angles.

Whenever you learn something new-- it affects all aspects of your game. When I first learned pivot aiming, it took me 6 months for my "new game" to over-take my "old game."

Most people don't have the patience to invest the time it takes to make adjustments - and soon go back to their normal method of playing.

spiders right when u learn something new your game will go down for some time but it will pick up

an i use the same thing your useing not on all shots

i allso use the ghost ball aiming too i aim the tip or ferral to the middle of the ghost ball to aim my shots

Uncle Willie's Secret Aiming System tought me in the 1960's by my buddie Uncle Willie. I may soon have a DVD Available, as the promise I made to Uncle Willie is null and void when he died. ONLY 49.95 if you pre order now & pay, delivery sometime in the future.:slap:

Coco, I have a question about your dvd. After paying for it and if we don't understand how the system works do you then tell us the dvd only works if we take an additional lesson for $100. Then we can buy the updated dvd for only an additional $10?

what aiming system do u use?

I aim the CB contact point at the OB contact point by feel/memory, paying attention to where my tip is pointed to help remember the CB/OB alignment more precisely. Is that a system?

aiming off the shaft.

I can't tell what any of that means.

i bought the perfect aim dvd.

Good luck.

their game goes down and then back up because they subconsciously switch back to their old method

probably a B- or a B or a D depending on alchohol consumption. I just use the FORCE Are you really supposed to aim?

Same here. I might add elaborate that - by feel/experience - I adjust the OB contact point to account for the affects from applying english & varying speed on the cue ball.

I was self-taught on a bowling alley's GC in the late 70's as a teen, and I never even heard the word "system". Since getting back into the game 2 years ago and hearing of systems on AZ, I hadn't been convinced that any partcular system would be of benefit to me. Perhaps my progress will stall at some point and I'll look closer at them, but I doubt it at this point.

I wonder how many pros use a "system". Spidey - do you have a feel on that?

Aiming, in an of itself, is simply the physical act of pointing the cue at a specific target. There is not a "system" for aiming. There are many systems to help a player determine where they need to aim. All of them hopefully end up with the same result...getting the cue ball to make contact with the object ball at the correct point. And that point is the same, regardless of which system you use to get there.

I personally use a combination of systems. I probably use a variation of Tucker's contact point to contact point to get my initial line, then I use SAM to fine tune that line.

Oh yeah, my skill level? I guess I do alright.

I think there is a difference in learning how to aim and learning at what to aim. However, few people make the distinction.

How to aim includes the tools and ideas that you use to aim such as eye placement, tip, shaft, lines, contact points, pivot points, etc. There are arguments about what you should use.

What to aim at is where there are also many disagreements.

You pays your money and you makes your choice.

I think if we spent more time learning how to aim there would be less trouble with "at what should one aim."

Sure - adjusting is also necessary for cut angle (affects the amount of throw, OB spin, resulting bank angle, etc.). I think it goes without saying (except in threads like this) that these adjustments must be made or you'll miss too many shots. I make them consciously (by feel), but I think most players don't like to be aware of those details.

Its amazing, once the words "aiming " and "systems" are mentioned, everyone goes nuts over this method or that method. WHO GIVES A SH*T! Dude use what ever works for you. The only thing you need to worry about is learning how you aim. This is extremly important! Ten times more important than what aiming system you use.

Look, you say you know how to make shots but you dont know exactly what you are doing. That is what you have to discover. Spend alot of time thinking about what it is you actually do when you aim and approach a shot. Break it down into steps. Once you learn what you look at and how your eyes move, basically your aiming process, that gray area your in right now will go away.

When ever your shooting you will no longer have moments where you forget what your aiming at or how you aim. Now you will know exactly how you aim and what you look at. So now you cant forget.

Learning and discovering what you do NATURALLY is more important than learning this method or that method.

Now tinkering with other methods will help you discover how you actually aim. It happened to me. I stumbled on a method when I was trying to figure out what the hell I was doing when aiming, and when I was reading about it from Mike Page i had that epiphany where I said, "what a second, this guy just described how I aim!" It helped me put how I aim into a logical process and into words that make sense.

So spend some time practicing some cut shots from a distance and try to think logically what your whole body is doing, eyes and all!
