US Open List of Favorites

With so many talented players in this field it comes down to who's hot going in to the tournament.

My short list:
Mika: Been winning allot. Could be the best chance of a repeat champion in a while.
Shane: With his outrageous amount of table time and his break he's always a fave.
Hillbilly: Call me crazy but he has been winning allot of tournaments in Texas lately and that break is just money.

Other suspects: Thorsten, Rodney and don't count out Earl he had a good run at Galveston until that shocking 10 ball rattle in the hill hill match ender.

I would love to see Shannon Daulton win the U.S. Open. That title would go nice with his 2 Derby City Classic 9 Ball Championships, his DCC Bank Championship, his DCC "All-around" championship as well as all the One Pocket Championships on his resume'.

It would be great if Earl could win his 6th(!) U.S. Open title this year.

Others I would like to see win again are SVB and John Schmidt.

As for foreign players, Marlon Manalo and Jung-Lin Chang are capable of winning, if they enter.

Oliver Ortmann, Thomas Engert or Ralf Souquet would also make great champions. These guys are pure class.

I would love to see Earl win it again. Ive heard he's been in rare form lately. I dont care for his antics sometimes but my god what a legend.

Mika Immonen
Niels Feljen

Marlon Manalo
Thorseten Hohmann
Alex Pagulayan
Mike Dechaine

in that order.

Add SVB, Souquet and Johnny Archer (if he can stop picking lint off the tables :) ). This is the only list of potential winners with the best chance of winning.

I personally would like to see Earl Strickland have a momentary lasps of reason (and forget that he is a nut case) and just play pool like its 1988!

I think one of these will win, with Lee Van Corteza as my favourite to take it down:

Ronato Alcano
Lee Van Corteza
Ralf Souquet
Johnny Archer
Roberto Gomez
Shane Van Boening

I'll take the field against those 6 if you want for a little sweat.

Ok, I am in for a $ 50 just because I hate my money. Not open for anyone else. This is a "corvette-special" :)

EDIT: If, for some reason, one or more of these players are not playing, the bet is off, or I can choose "substitutes"

no substitutes. If any of these 6 don't play then the bet is off, otherwise confirmed, good luck as always.

Shane was 1st on the list. Depending on the draw, I think he wins.

If he played like it was 1998, it would be even more in his favor. That was after he learned to play safe sometimes.

My pick is probably Johnny Archer or Mika Immonen. Shane might get there, but I don't think anyone's taking him lightly anymore...

What i'm hearing is that a lot of players pulled out . So my money will be on a non american player..
Don't know who but Ronnie ( maybe..)

now you call me crazy but i think its going to be a veteran that pulls out the us open victoy.its a gutwrenching tourney and you have to have nerves of steel.since i couldnt make the tourney this year or i would have bet on myself i will take nick varner to snap it off as he has been out of competion most of the time since his heart surgery however he has been practicing up to 6 hours a day and no one know this so i look forward to seeing him go deep in the tourney and finishing in the top 5 and who knows a 3rd. us open trophy is possible.dont count out any of the veterans if they can figure out the soft break and make the wing ball or 1 in the side alot the world could be in for some good playing.i like the long races and if a veteran doesnt win i am pulling for any american player.lets go america and kick some ass.

Mika, Occullo, Alcano, SVB, Souquet are my picks.

Good picks. I forgot how well Orcullo and Souquet have been playing lately.

Also, Alcano ran 2nd either the last 2 years, or 2 out of the last 3, I don't quite remember...Dennis and Ralf are capable of winning any tournament they enter...especially Ralf. He's maybe the most consistent player I've ever seen, over a long period of time. He's up there with Johnny Archer for most majors won over the longest period of years...

It's really a toss-up, as there are more world class players than there have ever been, and we've seen quite a few surprises this year. The lower ranked players are playing nearly as well as the top tier pros.
