You're playing a guy for whatever the bet is..$20, $50, $100 a game. You are up 6 games and have been paid after each game. You know the guy is a real good player, but today you're playing good enough to be ahead. You know the guy has more cash to continue playing and he asks you to double the bet...

So do you go for the big score or figure he's gonna have win it back game for game? Do you quit even if he comes back and wins or keep pressing? This has happened to me before and I've played it both ways, but never made the big score...What's the correct move?

Always double it...if he is an unknown road dog you'll figure it out soon enough and quit even or pay him for a lesson...
 
Double it, if you are up more than 2x. Theres nothing that sez you cant go back to the original bet amount.

You're up 6 bets. Double the bet, and you're still up 3 bets. I'd do it. If he steps up his game, then you have time to figure that out before you end up loser on the session. If he doesn't, then you win money twice as fast. You have more to gain than you have to lose by doubling the bet, to my way of thinking.

The way I see it, I ground it out x many games to get ahead, then, my opponent wins half as many games to get even. I gave him the chance to catch up quickly, instead of grinding it out the same way I did. He should be thanking me.

If it's 1p, I for sure double the bet..... Being up 6 games of 1p I might let him triple the bet if he wants. 9ball, six games up isn't enough for me to let him double the bet if it's a good player or a pretty even game. You can't be afraid to take off scores.

Meh. I don't think we need a poll.

Look at it from your opponent's perspective.

You have him down $100.. He asks to double the bet.. You agree. He now has a chance at losing $300, or winning $100 if he wins one game, $300 if he wins two.

If you entertain the thought of going back to the original bet, then your opponent is looking at losing $300 on the next game, or winning four games in a row to win $300.

Yeah. Good luck getting anyone else to gamble with you after you pull a stunt like that.

It's an unspoken rule. If you double the bet, you don't go back. Quit if you want, but you down't lower the bet.

I was just thinking that if it were a rotational game which I think takes more energy to play, I might be less inclined to play more games regardless of doubling the bet or not.

I have doubled the bet in one pocket recently after winning only four games. My opponent asked that the bet be raised and I reluctantly agreed but to be candid I figured if he was going to ask for a change in bet after only four games ahead, if he got four games ahead I would be entitled to change the game again OR quit. Fortunately for me it paid very nice dividends. I was on the receiving end getting lots of needed weight. I seem to be able to conserve my energy a little better playing one pocket so I am apt to raise the bet if I get several games on top.

Last night I was getting spanked pretty good at one pocket and asked my opponent to raise the bet by 50% and he agreed and continued the spanking. lol

I also know plenty of people who live by the rule: "Get out the same way you got in", meaning that they're not going to raise the bet and if you want to get even, you are going to have to win just as many games ahead as they are. For those guys, I don't cut them any slack.

So, like most things, it depends upon many different variables.

Sometimes, when I am losing like last night, after I asked for the bet to be increased, my opponent said no initially and then finally agreed to the increase but after a while of continued spanking he asked to raise the bet again and I said no. :smile: I just told him he would have to continue beating me for the same bet and he did. :o

i think you have to double it. you've got him down already and it's hard to shoot when you're stuck
 
Cowards don't find the big score and taking a free roll into some real money is the ticket. Letting someone chase their losses is the way to a real score, it's amazing how far someone will go to try and get $100 back.
