Earl got spanked

What did Earl wear exactly ?

He said weight belts etc..

Can someone give me some details?

EDIT : post above answered it

Any videos out of him playing in this, or an interview maybe with inside pool or something

I recently did the pool classes with Earl and Johnny and Earl showed and explained the weights and such. He isn't crazy for these items but has thought quite a bit about those and the help he gets from wearing these things. Somewhere on AZ is a photo.

I still laugh at the guys who took the classes with me as they claim Earl is nuts and what he taught us was not useful...wtf!?! Not useful? Here was a world champion explaining some of his "secrets" and guys who couldn't rack for Earl are saying he's nuts!

Those who diss Earl without any understanding of his methods are the nuts, imho. I'm still using his high bridge technique for many shots and having a blast trying to make some of the shots he made look easy, but are certainly not.

Go Earl. Thanks for the lessons and thanks for being you.

First of all, I'm not a 9 ball fan at all, though I do admire the amazing shot making ability of the guys playing today.

One thing I don't understand, (perhaps because I don't watch 9 ball) is that I know Earl is against jump sticks (and I agree) but wouldn't you call the jump stick as much of a gadget as all these weights and finger tapings are?

In my mind these are more questionable accessories to introduce to the game than a jump cue.

I don't understand how Earl of all people doesn't see the hypocracy of that.

The weights-finger tapings don't get you over another ball, as a jumpstick will do. No comparison....

Kicking WAS a very large part of the game...at one time.

To make a long story short he is what he is and that's it. We could talk
about him for weeks and there always will be two sets of opinions.:)

That is exactly why he feels he needs those accessories: If they can invent/ use new gadgets, then so can I. Make it so we all have to play with 1 cue and we got a game.

He told me about it for an hour once.

I don't know what Earl says about it but I am pretty sure that the reason that he doesn't like the short jump sticks is because he could jump almost as well with his full cue and that gave him an advantage over the players who couldn't.

If he was against jumping altogether he would just say that and not complain about the jump cues.

Earl is the master of the full-cue jump. He was the first to do it "televised" against Mizerak in the finals of a big tournament. The crowd went wild. This was a shot that not many of the other pros (if any?) had in their arsenal. Then the jump cue came out and everyone can do it...easily...accurately.

There is a great youtube video where Earl makes a tremendously hard jump shot with a jump cue...and after making the shot he throws the cue on the ground in disgust, LOL.

I hope Earl snaps off this US OPEN!

Short jump cues make it way too easy.

You just can't get the ball in the air fast enough with a full cue to jump short distances. It's impossible.

I have seen someone freeze 2 balls together, then slip a dollar bill between them, and pull it out......then jump the ball without touching it. Try that with a full cue.....

Anybody can use a jumpcue...

I don't appreciate a lot of the emotional antics along the way, but...
I think Earl is the best pure 9 ball player to ever draw breath. When he hit gear, everyone was playing for second. Playing with Efren brought his defense up a long knotch, but he could run so fast you just couldn't keep up. Winning a defensive battle & following it up with a couple games wouldn't work when Earl was raining 6 packs on his end.
Just as the Phillipinos were responsible for a paradigm shift in defense, Earl brought a new level of offensive power to the game.

I've been saying that forever. You should only be allowed to have 1 cue in a match. That eliminates gimmick tips and jump-engineered cues. I'm all for jump shots with your playing cue.

I love this.....

Respect him because he's a champion ? He's a loon! Even if he wasn't a loon, he's my age and you just don't go about beating the younger players. They have nerves and eyes. There is no amount of gadgetry that can fix that. Respect ? I believe personally that respect is something you have for a champion like Irving Crane or Jimmy Caras. Played the game well, were respectful of the game and carried themselves with class outside of the game. Earl is the best natural talent player ever, but that alone doesn't get my respect. If it does yours, good for you. We clearly have different sets of values. I get your intent, I just don't happend to agree with it. But remember this before calling someone out for their opinion. ANYONE in this country has the right to their opinion. Its called the 1st amendment of the Constitution.

I couldn't do it, so HE CAN'T DAMNIT.... I mean it.... Those younger players are too good for me, so they're too good for him......

I mean he's MY age and I know I can't beat those guys, so he doesn't have a shot.

That is the most ludicrous position I've heard in a while.

Not a legal shot...ball is contacted by parts of cue other than tip and after initial impact. Hi-spd footags has confirmed.

FOWWWWWWWWWWWWL.

Time will tell. All I can say is that great players don't beat themselves, yet Earl has made a career out of flogging himself! Back when Earl was young at the US Open, Taki Okamura beat Earl with his brain. Slow played him silly and watched Earl blow up. It was hilariously funny. Nope. Earl didn't have the wherewithal to realize that he was being played. Too busy worrying about what was right and wrong. Such worry will get you a heart condition in a hurry. I'm amazed Earl doesn't already. That's why Earl is a loon. Naturally gifted 9 ball player. Knows right and wrong. But can't let go of the difference.

Concerning age, if you've ever been to the US Open, you'd know that its just match after match after match. From 11 am to 3am the next day. The odds are in your favor if you are still 1) undefeated or 2) relatively young. If you think this analysis is ludicrous, you are entitled. Perhaps you believe that Barry Bonds was clean. Or that Manny is sane. You would have an argument. I, however, don't push 20% arguments. Once you get to MLTN, then I believe you have an argument.

Earl's on the losers side. We'll see how long he lasts. And whether he beats himself again.
