Down 10-7 Earl had ball in hand and missed a shot on the 2 and then raked all the balls for Charlie to win. Then when the crowd applauded for him after Ken Shuman announced for everyone to give him a round of applause for his run in the tourney as a 5 time champion he covered his ears!!

What a clown. They should fine his ass or ban him from playing in these tourneys if he's gonna act like that.

I Have to agree...Earl is NOT mellowing with age, he is getting worse.

Doesn't he ever think about his fan's, (full house by the way) or heaven forbid, the guy who may have a bet down on him.

His classless actions are becoming worse than John McEnroe and Mike Tyson combined. Tournament promoters should make him put up a bond, that he would have to forfeit, if he acted like he usually does.

Sad thing is, I doubt it would curb his antic's.

They won't fine him or ban his a$$. Tell you what his behavior DOES do, it gets him in the Mosconi Cup.

Sadly... it was only a matter of time. I talked to a friend of mine who is there and he said Earl was acting like a perfect gentleman earlier in the week, even after his first loss. I was hoping he had turned the corner with his behavior... but that was just wishfull thinking I guess.

There is no other way to describe him but an arrogant ahole. I am
surprised that he still represents US in Masconi cup, he shhould get a boot.

Seems to becoming the "New move" for some of the pros today!

its not a new move, we did it often in Sacramento on Rebco tables, the pockets were so big that if you scratched on say the 5 ball and the 6,7,8,9 was simple as 4 stop shots in a row, sometimes we raked the balls to save time. The trend back then for $500-$2000 sets was races to 11, once in a while a 10 ahead set or rarely a race to 21. So sice it was short races 9 or 11 raking the balls to kep it going was common with the strong players, Kim Davenport did it often, with weaker players it wasnt as common. Its not a "new" thing for sure.

I hope everyone on this board loses with grace...he shook Charlie's hand and looked to say good game or something cuz Charlie didn't react bad. He's old school, wants to win by beating you not cuz you hang an 8 ball. He showed some heart, I woulda threw all the balls off the table while Van Van twirled a 6 on me, JK. Seriously though you guys got him under the microscope because he doesnt lose as well as others sometimes.

Anyone ever see Nevel take a tough loss, yikes!

I tend to agree with Mikey on this one. Not offereing up any excuses for Earl (he wouldnt feel like he needs one) and I know he has done things in poor taste before. Raking the balls is a concession, and sometimes a sign of respect. Would most of us do it? Hell no. But we are not Earl and most of us dont know what its like to compete at that level.

As far as covering his ears, who knows. The crowd is clapping to congarulate him on a nice run. He doesnt care at all about a run, he wants to WIN the freakin tourney! He was in the best playing condition he has been in for years, in a tournament that probably means more to him than any other. And he was just put out. It doesnt really surprise me that he wouldnt feel like having people clap for him right then.

Not saying he is right or wrong. But he is judged harder than any other player because he speaks his mind and does what he feels without careing what anyone else thinks.

I was there for 3 of his matches and this is what I have to say about Earl.

He played really good and talked to the crowd when the guy was racking... People in the crowd decided it would be good to tell him to stop crying etc. He is putting on a show and these clowns should be mimes and say nothing.

That totally changed Earl's mood!!! He got angry and talked way more about any and everything.

Some are saying he is a poor sport, well, I watched him win the second game of a set, mark his game and then looked up at the scoreboard... 1-0 for him and should have been 1-1. He told the guy he didn't mark his score so he would put it up for him... I didn't see another player there do that! After seeing this, I think Earl is looking to beat his opponents not cheat them. Talking calms him and the crowd (some) talk bad and that sets him off. I thought he played the best pool there his first 2 matches and the crowd played a part in his decline.

This Stuff is getting real Old

We will never grow the sport if we continue to have our past champions act like a bunch of cry babies!!! Lets have an Earl vs. Grady "I feel so sorry for myself because I am past my prime" challenge match!

Earl is a complex man. Whatever his reasons are for playing, the love of the fans doesn't seem to be one of them.

Is it just me or does it seem like when Earl is winning, everybody is with him, but when he loses, and acts badly, Earl haters come out of the woodwork.

I've been right there...in his corner...getting ripped by him verbally for no apparent reason, but I never felt like I had the grounds to speak ill of the man. Maybe that is my problem but I prefer to hold my judgement. I have no idea what being a 5 time champion or not being able to find an even money game anywhere on the planet feels like. I'm so far removed from his level of talent that I just can't understand the man.

Whatever I feel, it's not resentment, pitty or disappointment at his "lack of class." Earl was never a model of good behavior in my experience. He has shown great generosity and reverence for the game, but on the table he has always been fiery and unpredictable.

In the middle 80's, at the Akron Open, and old timer exclaimed of Earl: "He'd complain if they hung him with a new rope." So I say today, other than his winning championships, what has changed?

We are paying to see him play...be it on Accu-Stats PPV or at the Open. I have a VIP seat and watched the match. I would have liked to seen it played out...Earl is a REAL DICK!!! Furthermore, if Earl is on the Mosconi Cup team the US will most likely get drilled again. How would you like to have that flake as a team mate!!! How could you count on him!!!
