Once again Earl shows his lack of class, what a disgrace

I was there for 3 of his matches and this is what I have to say about Earl.

He played really good and talked to the crowd when the guy was racking... People in the crowd decided it would be good to tell him to stop crying etc. He is putting on a show and these clowns should be mimes and say nothing.

That totally changed Earl's mood!!! He got angry and talked way more about any and everything.

Some are saying he is a poor sport, well, I watched him win the second game of a set, mark his game and then looked up at the scoreboard... 1-0 for him and should have been 1-1. He told the guy he didn't mark his score so he would put it up for him... I didn't see another player there do that! After seeing this, I think Earl is looking to beat his opponents not cheat them. Talking calms him and the crowd (some) talk bad and that sets him off. I thought he played the best pool there his first 2 matches and the crowd played a part in his decline.

This is the only thing that I worried about and that's the wheels coming off and Earl beating himself. I really feel that is what happened here. I certainly don't want to take anything from Charlie's game but Earl just wasn't in the mental state he needed to be in to win, so he decided to beat himself and I feel bad for him and all his fans! This conduct is certainly very unprofessional a champion of his caliber forfieting the match, very disapointing to say the least.......

at 10/7 earl missed a thin cut on the 2ball and popped the 2 into the side with his cue then unscrewed.

yea, Earl does make it hard to be on his side sometimes....

but, I REALLY enjoyed watching him through out the week.

I met with Earl and John Schmidt right after his match. I know I am a little biased here and I don't like what he did but he has some reasons for the way he acted. First he said he raked the balls because Charlie is a greatplayer (a sign of respect that it was over) He covered his ears because he said "I don't deserve the fans clapping for me" And finally someone said earlier in this post "he don't care about the fans" You are so wrong on that one. The point he was most upset about was people soft breaking and saftey breaking. He said he hates that and he could do it too but its bad for the fans. They want to see action. He saids they deserve to see good pool when you smash the balls open. He added, if I was watching a guy soft or saftey break as a fan I would get on then to hit the ball. I know its tactics and that may be how to win a rack and maybe thats what he should be focused on, he is old school. Just reporting what was said.

Earl was still steaming about the sewer he made on the 7 ball that would have tied it up 8-8. Instead it was 9-7 Charlie. So when he missed the 2 he racked the balls. Deff not the worse thing I've seen a player do when they miss and know its over.

I was still in awe watching all his matches this week. Him running through racks like a hot knife through butter is just amazing. It was real run rooting for him and it was a fun ride.

Earl is still the man. If he would change his break up a little I still think he could win it all.

Oh well, even if someone win their second US Open they'll still be 3 shy of the man :)

Down 10-7 Earl had ball in hand and missed a shot on the 2 and then raked all the balls for Charlie to win. Then when the crowd applauded for him after Ken Shuman announced for everyone to give him a round of applause for his run in the tourney as a 5 time champion he covered his ears!!

What a clown. They should fine his ass or ban him from playing in these tourneys if he's gonna act like that.

Agreed. The guy is a classless jerk who acts like he is entitled to win his matches. He doesnt even play that good anymore and for them to put him on the Mosconi Cup team just to show his ass is a disgrace. Its amazing that whoever is in charge condones that behavior. He should have to play way better than everyone else to be considered for that team and his behavior should be considered a detriment to him, not a bonus. Can you imagine having that donkey as your teammate? Somebody should just smack his ass and maybe he will straighten up.

Who are any of YOU to judge him?

Have you won a US Open?

Are you 1/10th the player he is?

Doubtful.

I am not the biggest fan of him, but his skill speaks for itself. Racking the balls in the pockets to forfeit is not a big deal.

I've seen the couple of so called "out-breaks" on videos, which in a pool-hall or local pool-hall would be considered just someone who had a big game on the line and lost.

Now think how BIG of a game he has on the line...

I've gotten pretty pissed over losing $50, imagine losing a game that would give you a title you might never have a chance to get again. You lose a chance to show people you can play good, but just a few shots end it all. Your dream of at least the entire year is broken is a few seconds of mistakes, or whatever you want to call his missed shots. You'd be pissed too.

Whatever though just my opinion, I think he's a fine player just like the rest of them, with exceptional skill like very few of them.

And how Earl sticks by his guns and doesnt change his rack is one of the things I love about him. If Earl learned the soft break like Corey I'm sure he could pound his way through a 40 pack. But like Earl says, it just wouldnt be the same show.

At least by Earl's standards, his behavior at this year's US Open sounds quite stellar. No swearing at the crowd, no refusing to shake the opponent's hand, no throwing or breaking of a cue?

It's a step in the right direction :D

Yeah. Shame on Corey. How dare he learn something new and change the way the game is played, only to have people that cant beat him change the rules so he cant do it. Gotta love stubborn people who won't adapt to the times.

He said he hates that and he could do it too but its bad for the fans..

he also said many times he HATES jump cues, and then he will pull one out when it's needed. I just saw he did that once again earlier this week. maybe he is just a very confused man:wink:

I don't think the guy is classless - he obviously has mental illness. I wasn't there but I'm positive there were likely people in the crowd who poked the tiger through the cage and a meltdown ensued.

Every time I've seen Earl act like an ass-- someone in the crowd instigated him in the middle of a match. Should he just be classy and ignore it? Sure... but, I don't think he's mentally able to--- it's like starting an avalanche--- once it starts, there's no stopping it.

My mother was the same way for YEARS until they got her meds right. We could be sitting down in a restaurant and if she overheard something she didn't like, she'd lean into the other table and tell them ALL about it until a fight broke out.

So, I guess people are real quick to call him classless and an ass--- I just see a gifted player who isn't well mentally. We either have someone bipolar in our families (so we understand) or we don't. It is what it is.

so by his reasoning of giving the fans a better show with the hard break, he immediately contradicts that theory and loses credibility on that statement by raking a full table of balls. Do the fans not deserve to watch the entire game and set? The ones that paid money to watch the ppv or admission to the open?

I would agree with this to a point. However, he is supposed to be a grown man and should be able to overcome throwing temper tantrums. If he really is mentally challenged, then he should get on proper meds and try to make himself better. Until then, he is a baby and an asshole.

Imagine if he did adapt, though. Maybe he will?

I wasnt trying to knock Corey, I just simply respect Earl for sticking by his guns, right or wrong as he may be.

And they sort of changed the rules when they brought in the jump cues on Earl back in the day.

It's the overcome part you're missing--- unless the meds are right--- that card's not in the deck, unfortunately. It's no different than a tick or a stutter - it's uncontrollable. It's like telling a chronically depressed person to just get over it and stop crying and be a man/woman and overcome it. They often can't help it no matter what (I know because I dated a girl like that... she cried for 6 months STRAIGHT--- no joke).

I'm sure he's on meds-- he's said so on camera before. This often takes years and years to get right (if it ever gets right). Some people can pop a pill and it stabilizes them or they have to take a cocktail of pills to get it right and there are hundreds of options.

So, in my opinion, it's a handicap. It's no different than SVB being deaf or Putnam with his diabetes. It's something he has to deal with (and something we as fans should grow more sensitive to). It really isn't any different than calling a deaf person a retard because they can't speak clearly. His actions are bad- but he doesn't "WANT" to be that way.

I don't wanna get cornered into this thread as a blind Earl defender... I'm just saying people are under the assumption he can control his actions and that he's a child for acting out. He can't and he's not. That's all I'm saying.

how did that affect the sex? Positive or negative?

He's a hate him or love him kind of guy. Off the table pick 5 players that do more for others...go ahead...I'll wait! Earl practices in the public. You can talk to him all you want when you see him. I've never once seen him be an ass to someone right off the bat for no apparent reason. If you heckle him, don't worry he's got some good come backs. He's a country boy. If you don't or can't understand that, well that's fine but you'll find a long long line of people who will back Earl up in a heart beat. For most of us who have had a chance to see him in gear and happy, you'd know why we root for him so hard.

He's not a mechanical player. He's all heart. He runs out, most of the time people don't agree with his shot selection, but Earl needs to let his stroke out. I doubt ANYONE will even be playing 9-Ball in about 5 years. Earl wears his heart on his sleeve, probably to his detriment in some cases. He jumps full cue and shoots before the cue ball stops rolling. Probably the most natural and pure talent the game has ever seen.

Next time I see any player rake the balls through a fit, whine or complain I'm starting a post. Probably will get to make one during the next Mika Immonen match. If Earl gets looked at on 100x in the microscope so should everyone else.
