$10k to each on the losers side and $20k to the winners. I don't know how expenses are addressed and if they get a sweet gift bag - like a new Camaro or something. (right John? ;))

Not a bad payday win or lose. I can see why so many players want in!

Exactly...and it's not unheard of that the players do savers with indivisual players on the other team...which totally takes away from the whole concept if you ask me.

That's why I think we need new blood on there.

Why would you want anyone other than champions on the team? It beats the hell out of me! This format has got to be the most pressure of any event and I would take experience all day over up and coming. I think these moster up and comers would turn into casper the ghost.

Actually, I'd pick the camaro in Brandon's avatar over a new one. ;)

Tough choices here...but I agree with Christina...John Schmidt over Earl...in the interest of team unity.

I think the U.S. needs a team of strong young players that are hungry. For the same guys that go every year, it doesn't seem like they want to win it quite as badly.

Cristina,
I like HUNGRY, a lot and not just for the ten or twenty thousand dollars that each team will put in their respective pockets.

I want people on the team that are willing to train for this event. In fact, I would like to see Matchroom Sports get the team picked a year in advance or at least a few months in advance, in case the team is serious about winning and wants to get together a couple of times a year and practice.

Doesn't Matchroom Sports realize that if a selected team is traveling around the pool world practicing for this event, it will make for bigger and better television. A couple of months to plan some practices is not enough time especially around the holidays.

If Earl plays he has to have a strong Team Captain that he respects or fears. I prefer the respect aspect. Fear only works for short periods of time.

Contradictions from Matchroom on selection

Good post Joey.

Hey... Matchroom has two articles @ the US selection and they contradict each other as a minimum. What do you make of it?

From an article on their home page from last week: at http://www.matchroompool.com/page/MosconiCup/NewsDetail/0,,12660~1835386,00.html

"With the US Open set to conclude on Saturday, the next three American players will be named early next week."

From an article on their site at:
http://www.matchroompool.com/page/Features/0,,12660~1744899,00.html

Team USA will be made up of the following five players:
1. The No.1 ranked player on the BCA Points List at the conclusion of the US Open on 25th October.
2. The No.2 ranked player on the BCA Points List at the conclusion of the US Open on 25th October.
3. Any player
4. Any player
5. The winner of a 'Mosconi Cup Idol' public vote.

Players 1 & 2 will be announced at the close of the US Open, while players 3 & 4 will be announced in September. Players 3 & 4 will be selected by Matchroom Sport.

Anyone see any contradictions???

I've been wondering about this for almost 2 months now. It's almost as if Matchroom isn't happy about who's leading the points list right now, and is delaying the selection in hopes that the leader board will change.

Mind you Matchroom also failed to confirm that Ralf and Mika would be on the team. Failing to select the top two players in the world would be a monumental mistake. Clearly they will be on the team, but why the wait?

Ralf, Niels and Darren was their first 3 picks for Team Europe

I'm suprised to see Earl so high on the vote right now. I know he is entertaining and draws a crowd but if the U.S. actually wants to win, he may still play great but he's horrible for team chemistry.

I witnessed it first hand last year. He refuses to participate in team dinners, hardly practiced with the team, didn't go out to watch anyone else play during their matches and when he did interact with them all he did was bring everyone down.

He got in trouble with the promoters one day last year for cursing on live TV during an interview and after storming off set saying something like "no one ever apologizes for Tiger Woods when he curses on the course..." he refused to talk to anyone for the next day or so, including his team mates. Just flat out pretended that no one was talking to him.

I would be surprised if any of the potential team members even want him on the team this year. He showed last week that he can still play as well as any of them, but the U.S. team needs players that pull for each other.

All of this has nothing with his ability to play nine ball :) I am not supporting Earl but just wondering.

My mosconi cup dream team (not in any particular order):

Archer
Schmidt
SVB
Bartram
Hatch

I think these guys all have respect for each others game and would make a strong TEAM. Nobody here would quit. Honorable mention to Deuel.

I voted for Schmidt, but Hatch has been on fire.

Mine would be....
Shane VanBoening
Earl Strickland
John Schmidt
Donnie Mills
Shannon Daulton

I'm as big a fan as anyone on here, but there has to come a time when he's no longer part of the team for 'ceremonial" reasons. This may be his last year. (Assuming that MatchRoom Sports selects him, which I believe they will) But even stalwart fans such as me can't see him there much longer.

Go ahead and say it. Earl is the Manny Ramirez of pool.
