I was reading along in the forums today and someone mentioned this tournament that is starting (In Germany) the day that DCC finishes. Some big names are already confirmed and I'm sure most of them will be there considering the $400,000 pot. I believe the Format is 50 teams of 4 players each playing for the top prize of $100,000.

Anyway here is a link I found to follow for any info etc. you need.

Just wanted to say hello to all AZer's. I am new to posting here however I have been following the forums for over a year now (from the shadows)

Just for the record the Smiley face beside the topic wasn't supposed to be there.

I in no way wish anything bad for the DCC.

Well I will be at DCC no matter who is going to Germany. It is the Hustler Ball at the DCC!

I'm going to be in Germany.... Any AZers who wish to meet, drop me a PM :grin-square:

You'd think after all this time the promoters could get their freaking heads together and schedule things a little better. Unless they figure that it won't "change" the minds of those that have already decided. The women seem to have figured this out and most of the time their events don't "seem" to conflict with other major tournaments, but I could be wrong. On the other hand, the men are constantly booking events at the same times in different parts of the country, and in this situation, the world. Seems like it would be better for everyone involved if they could work together a little better. It's not like DCC is some rinky dink regional that no one shows for. It has, in just a few years, turned into the PREMIER event for many players, and not JUST for the gambling. Once again, another example of the problems that stem from no unified front for (men's)Professional Pool.

Good post....

I think ego plays a role too.....it seems in some instances, this has happened before where tournaments are overlapped on purpose.....sort of the, "our event is gonna be better, so we can just host it whenever we want, they'll pick our event".....kinda like a couple of small-time hustlers fighting over who can rob the league players.....this may not be the case, but it seems that way....

Another place pool can learn from golf.....often times the tour will do their best to set events over a month in certain regions of the US....it's easier for travel and everyone involved....would be nice to see this in pool....a month on the west coast, a month in the middle, a month on the east coast, a month in europe, and so on.....

Well said ugotactionTx.

I wonder how:

- Greg Sullivan of Diamond (The DCC Promoter I believe) feels about this
- the WPA decided upon the dates of this tournament

The winners of the DCC competitions will need an asterisk next to their W's, since 200 of the top professionals will not be there. This is a shame.

"Harvey Sharpshooter won the overall at the DCC in 2009!"
"Yeah but, wasn't that the year the WPA stuck one up DCC's shute?"

I hope next year the tournaments will not overlap again.

This is the worst news we've had in awhile (in my opinion).

How can the tournament organizers consider themselves promoters of the sport when they're about to leave one of the years more anticipated events in shambles?

You can argue that DCC will still be amazing this year without the big names attending, but I beg to differ. The whole idea is to be pushing forward.... while this is regressing.

WTF! Does Greg know about this? Maybe the Promoters haven't talked. This is such BS.

Write the WPA

I agree.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

I just emailed the WPA and perhaps others might consider doing the same at:

Dear Mr. Anderson/WPA,

How did it come to be that the WPA event in Germany overlaps the dates of the DCC? The DCC, one of the US' premier events is going to be significantly and adversely affected. Seems a shame to me. Many pool enthusiasts, players and businesses would have hoped this schedule conflict could have been avoided.

I look forward to your reply and barring your request not to do so, I will post it on the forums at AZ Billiards.

Thanks in advance for taking time,

Matt

I hope someone can provide the inside line on how this happened, because in the absence of a decent reason, this timing just stinks.

co-operation

I think if the DCC was sanctioned it would solve the problem
DCC is an important date on any player's calendar
We need a central place to clear these things
The WPA is already in place=lets use it and improve it

I would add to the above letter that the DCC is a long-standing event, not just something dreamed up this year. From a precedence perspective, the DCC should have extra rights to that month.

How would a tourney like the DCC get sanctioned? What would be the associated responsibilities thereby afforded to the promoter by doing so? Practically speaking, is it prohibitive?

Maybe there's hope yet. Notice how on the sites with details on the WTC 2010 mention two date ranges: Jan. 30 - Feb. 7 and also Feb 3. to Feb. 7. On the flyers on the sites, they mostly say Feb 3 - 7, so let's hope that the actual tournament is Feb 3-7 and the expo that goes along with it starts Jan. 30 instead of the other way around.

Never mind. The WTC 2010 brochure states that the tournament is from Jan. 30 - Feb. 7 and the TOP 16 teams will play from Feb. 3-7. Once again, another example of the world of pool shooting itself in the foot...

The promotor has to contact WPA and to get the tournament sanctioned, and the dates blocked meaning that no other big events can be held that same period, the promotor has to pay a fee to the WPA.

The sanctiong fee doesn't do any other good than protecting the dates. The DCC was sanctioned a few years ago, but perhaps Greg thought it was not needed since the DCC is considered a major event.

I don't know why it is not sanctioned, but I think it's sad that promotors won't use the WPA.

This is why we have the WPA, to protect big events from colliding, playing with same kind of rules, build a world ranking etc.

It seems that it is North America not cooperating with the WPA, because it works fine in the rest of the world.

Unfortunately, he's not wrong. The brand new World Team Cup in Germany overlaps with DCC this year. It's a big money event and anyone who is invited is expected to attend. DCC will lose quite a few big names because of it, sad to say. Of course, that means more money for those who do come. Instead of 350-400 players in each division, maybe there will only be 330-350. Still a monster event and still lots of action I'm sure.

This is in response to the Shane Van Boening telling a friend he is not going to be at DCC this year

Doesn't look good for DCC

On the other hand... the more I read into this tournament the more I am excited for it...Kind of like a Mosconi Cup meets the World Cup of Pool......

Just my thoughts......

Dave

Excited?????? are you kidding me. You want to see some excitement go to the Derby. What would really be nice is if the players would tell this "new" event to suck it and go to the DCC anyway, out of respect for the tournament, Gregg, Diamond, and the fans that attend, not to mention the regular players that look forward to seeing and playing against the best in the game, up close and personal. Since when did they start having Team tournaments like this anyway? How are the teams put together?

Just to play the other side:

I'm boggled by the ideology that the WPA should move its gigantic world event over something like the DCC. Not to knock the DCC, it is a big national event for mostly American pool(Yes, some people fly in for the prize money & action in the practice room, but its mostly Americans playing in this event), but something world wide is a little more difficult to organize. Yes, it sucks that the American event will be hurt, but this new event is a huge step forward for billiards in general. So what if American pool takes a hit at one event? Chances are this event will have more coverage and spark more interest in pool then the DCC would have.

If enough people were to send letters to the DCC committee or the Sponsors of the event, I'm wondering if they would consider trying to move their event. I'm sure the DCC has been organizing and setting up since last year's DCC, but moving it to a week earlier would seem to be a bright idea if permitted when 25,000 letters of 'I'm not going because all the stars aren't going to be there.'

Question is, will TAR be at both events?
