What games have you found played (preferebly gambled) in a pool hall other than the norm (because some jackass will say pool :) )? I can't believe how many times I end up at a pool hall gambling all night and never pick up a stick.

Some that I get sucked into every now and then

  • Pitching quarters to the spot
  • Knock out (punching bag arcade game that will get you hurt when you are drinking)
  • Beer Pong
  • Bouncing quarters into a shot glass
  • Bet on the color car that will get stopped by the red light outside

The list goes on what do you guys do?

Edit....didn't read the non pool post...

Occasionally on sports on tv at the bar/pool hall, golden tee or silver strike...and ms pac man :).

I've been in a golden tee battle or two. The local room owner broke his arm on the screen from hitting the ball so hard.

We have had way too many crazy gambles in my local hall including:

Shuffleboard with coffee creamers down the counter overlooking the tables

Proposition bets about the number of Smarties that come out of the vending maching on a single quarter

Rolling pool balls closest to the wall

Various food eating bets (entire baked potato dressing tray for $100, 2 bowls of mayonnaise for $, etc.)

Way too many prop bets on the pool table

Multi-way flips for drinks(odd man out buys and we have had them regularly with 8+ people)

We even once had a 9 ball race where one guy put up cash versus the other guys hair(it was down to his ass)

As a general rule the group I associate with can find ways to gamble on just about anything.

Alcohol and golden tee or silverstrike can be very entertaining...Ive obtained a couple of bruises from hitting the ball too hard, but no breaks...now its the newer putt putt game that doesnt pay to hit it hard. Maybe too many aggressive ballers playing these games lol.

I'm trying these two thats sounds like a night of fun

They are a lot of fun, the only rule that we put into place was that the pool balls were not allowed to actually hit the wall. One night a few guys started at $5 a ball and by the time the smoke cleared one guy was stuck something in the neighbourhood of $800.

Well a little bit pool related but a bit different; I was at this bar where someone brought in a hampster in one of those habitrail balls. They put a pool ball next to each pocket and money was bet on each pocket. Which ever pocket the hampster knocked the ball in collected the money from all the others. Not sure how the animal rights activists will respond to this:eek:. But you have never seen so many drunk people standing around a table yelling for this hampster. It was quite fun

I'm a music junky and I D.J. in a couple bars.

Just this week I was betting another league player the I could name the artist & the song of any genre of music before he could, and I let hip pick the genre.

The bar had a selection of live-stream music channels, so we put it on Classic Rock (his choice) and bet $20 a song.

I robbed him.

I just talked to a buddy of mine ip north and they were racing electric pocket bikes around the pool hall with the owner at 2 in the morning on new years eave for 10 a race. That's pretty funny

other bets

Standing in front of a gum ball machine betting on which color gum would come out of it. The owners hate to have to pick up all the gum and I have seen some put it back in the machine. Normally no kids were in there though. Most players always brought there own gum I hope.

while standing up cross your left leg and holding your foot with your right hand then you try to jump your other leg through without leting go of your foot. only one person could do it most would fall and bust your butt.

Pitching quarters closest to the wall,

and like you said, quarters to the spot are most common,

old timers used to play poker with dollar bills, making a hand out of the serial numbers, lowest serial number was the best!!!!!!!!!...like nothing but 1's .concidered A's

It was called "Liars Poker"

I've had lots of fun with a game where we stand on one side of the table (rack-side), and send one ball at the time up table with your hand and make it rest inside the kitchen.

If you hit another ball, scratch in one of the corner pockets or fail to get the ball inside the kitchen, you end your turn.

I've managed to get 23 balls inside the kitchen once.

It's a fun game :)
