Best Dime shaper?

The Williards nickel shaper, I bought in Vegas a few years back. I recently ordered a Dime shaper from a couple retailers but they have sent the identical one that I allready have.

The packaging has a Nickel stamp on the front but the back of the packaging says champ .358. And using it seems like a less radius than my dime shaper on my Ultimate tip tool. i am thinking I have the Williards nickel. Anyone know how to tell, if I indeed have the nickel or doubtfully the dime shaper.

Does anyone know if the Willards and Ultimate tip tools are the same radius?

And what radius do you guys prefer the Ultimate or the Williards?

The willards come in either dime or nickel, the ultimate has both ( one on each side). I have both of these.

I got an its george tip tool, it works very well, and is a dime radius. Check em out.

A short length of 3/4 PVC pipe cut in half lengthwise and some sandpaper is a cheap way to go. Works well too.

Duh! Hold a dime up to the curvature checker on the circumfrence of you're tool it should fit if you have the dime williard. Dime package paper is yellow, nickle shaper paper is blue. But packager could make a mistake easily.

The Willard shaper is hard to beat. I've carried one in my bag for years. When I was repairing cues my advice to customers regarding which size shaper to use was as follows: If your shaft diameter is 13mm use a nickle size. If it's a 12mm use a dime. Anything in between is your choice. It seemed to work out pretty well.

I've always thought the willard was the best until I got an its george. Its the same kind of abrasive material as the willard but as better design.

Put a coin in the arch cut out opposite the hole to attach to something.
It will match either a nickel or dime coin.
They are a great tool and last for years. When they load with leather ,washing in soap water cleans them like new.I put a small zip tie on the dime tool for easy ID. Nickel I leave plain.

Instroke2,

Take out a dime and put in the notch on the bottom of the Williards Shaper if it matches the curvature that is cut out, you probably have a dime shaper. If it doesn't try a nickel and see how it fits.

I'm kinda partial to . . .

one of these . . . send it off to a cue builder / repair guy. Everything will be much more precise and he'll recondition the shaft at the same time.

I also like these. Easy to make on a table saw and extremely inexpensive. Get 80 grit sandpaper that has a sticky back and cut it to size. It's also fun to give them away to friends.
