...left my cues in the cold

left my case in the car for about 20hrs temp is low 30's high 20's hope they are ok.
ive never done this before, i feel bad about it.
but its probably better than leaving them in a hot humid trunk to bake thou

ive seen a cue shaft shaped like a canoe after being left in a car for about 7 years.

what if your cue did that to you?

It is one thing if the tips are blue but if the whole cue is blue it may be hypoolthermia and they will need to be warmed up slowly.:grin:
All kidding aside I would rather have them in the cold then the heat, they should be fine once the are back to room temp.:wink:

this is actually a fact, as cold air is usually less humid than hot air. So if your going to treat your cue like a red headed stepchild then its best to leave her out in the cold lol

No doubt about it you guys know humidity in that part of the country. It is -7 here right now but it is supposed to get cold tonight:wink:.
 
make sure the cues warm up slowly though, otherwise it could be bad. It's a problem to change temperatures quickly with wood...as well as humidity of course.

what part of the rockies you in bud? I was in aspen all summer long in 2008, hell i saw snow cover a 10k ft mesa right in front of my place on June 27th around midnight.
 
....i just left them in the case and placed it next to the door.

i dont think its cold enuff to hurt anything in less than a days time yet.

i Play guitar too so i know alittle about humidity/temp and wood...
some people are really anal about Humidity control with there guitars.
but as long as the humidity is stable and not too high like 80%+ or low under 30% for weeks at a time your gonna be fine....ive never used a humidifer for my guitars and leave them out of the cases for days at a time when im playing alot.
 
heat will damage cues a whole lot faster than cold. i wouldnt be too worried about it, and lession learned-I have done the same thing.

About 50 miles North of Aspen, and yes it can snow any month here. I live next to a river and it can be 10-15 degrees cooler at my place then a buddies that is 1/4 of a mile uphill from here:mad:.

The biggest danger is to the adhesives, glues, and finish. Let things warm up slowly and don't hit with the cues until back to normal temperature. One of the biggest dangers to cues is the cargo holds of airplanes. However since the cases and usually outer containers serve as insulation the cues rarely cool and reheat fast enough to be a problem.

With materials less pliable than wood a trick to break apart something accidentally glued together is to place it in a deep freezer. An hour or three and give the component a sharp rap with your hand or something fairly soft without bones to break like a dead blow hammer. They usually come apart readily regardless of what wonder glue was used.

I put myself out of competition in an major event when the glue in bedding on my rifle failed after it had flown in a cargo hold for a few thousand miles and been mislaid for a week or two along the way. No damage at all to the container so I think temperature extremes popped the bond.

That shouldn't harm them. We're into full fledged winter here and I swear, the cues get colder than that just taking a ride down to the hall in the car.
But, always good to have a golden libation and let them warm a bit before you shoot.
 
seriously how many of you have left the cue out in the car when its cold and then took it out and hit a ball with it while still cold and thought "WTF?"

Agreed. Although due to being a bit father north and perhaps having a poor heater in my car, sometimes I wait two golden libations.

my cues stay in my truck unless im at the pool hall. done this for years temperatures from 110 to 28 degrees no damage everything stays straight. never wait for them to get room temp. schick,jensen,original sledgehammer and original jerico j/b. instroke 3/5.never had a problem.

wow.....i wouldnt feel right leaving mine in the truck all the time.
i imagine that if the wood is stable that they are gonna stay strait for along time. but i would worry about the adhesives....like said earlier.
i know cues will warp in certain conditions, why chance it.

do you use joint protectors? the good case probably helps too....id bet with a soft case you might have problems, because you dont have individual tubes, also the possiblity of the soft case collecting moisture.

even a blind bird dog can find a duck once in his life

i bet money that if you roll those cues with the joint on the rail you got some tip wobble. Don't do this guys or your cues will warp....this guys just the luckiest cue owner on the planet earth.


Warpage and heat/cold have nothing to do with how well or who built a cue. It has to do with wood, and its a fact that wood moves in the heat and cold and exchanges moisture.
 
I agree heat is far worse than cold. My cues ride shotgun with me inside the car. The trunk is for stuff I don't care about.
