New Camera Picture Differences

I got a new camera recently for my girls birthday as she loves to take a ton of pictures of the kids and plus I could use it too. I found a good deal on a 12 meg Canon for around $130, its pink so I will not be leaving the house with it. Prior to this we had 5 meg cameras from like 2 or more years ago.

I am showing the difference between the 2 cameras. I did not know if it was going to be much of a difference but it sure seems to be. For under $150 you can get a 12 meg camera and it was certainly worth it. Before I would have to take the 5 meg pics and adjust contrast and other stuff to improve the picture, with this camera I did nothing with the pics.

I am not a photographer and just used some natural light and the rooms light along with the macro setting on. LOOK BELOW A FEW POST DOWN FOR THE OUTDOOR PICS.

thats a huge difference, almost as good as my SLR. Plus the carpet looks cleaner, no need to vaccuum just take alot of pictures of it and lay them down all over......LOL

Yes it is a big difference bud, the color is more true to life and I do not have to mess with the settings in a photo program to clear it up so it is not so bright and washed out and the clarity is much better too even though the room I am in is not very well lit at all. The carpets in my whole house need to be cleaned, lol, we got a new puppy that does not have a very high IQ. :smile:
 
It really makes a huge difference in the close ups. Thanks for sharing and great cue.

Thanks Don. I am sure that there are ways to improve it even more like more light, I might try and do some outdoor pictures today or tomorrow to see it does anything. I am not sure about the best settings to have my camera on for cue pics, if anyone knows then post it up. :wink:

No problem Jeff, go to Walmart, its the Canon A1100 IS model and works really good, very happy with and for $130 it is worth it. :smile:

I got my wife the exact same camera, and yea, they take exceptional pictures....Great pics Lenny!

Thanks and I am quite happy with it, hate drooling over most of the cue pictures on here that show detail clearly and mine looking like paintings. :smile:
 
I found a good camera and natural light work the best. but also hold the cue off the ground so the camera knows where to focous and blurs out the background. it gets alot clearer and the camera works on the subject!!

Would a neutral background help the camera focus better like a white or black backdrop?

neither bringing the cue away from the background, or using a neutral background will make the camera better focus on the subject.
even with auto-focus, the photographer has to take care of focus.
you can use spot focus to make sure the cue is in focus.
then you can shorten or lengthen the depth of field (dof / area in focus - front to back) as needed, with the aperture setting.
the smaller the aperture (higher number), the wider the dof, but requires increasing light.

Thanks for the info. I did notice that camera was a F 2.7 for the indoor shots and F 8.0 for the outside shots. I will try using the spot focus and see what happens sometime. :smile:
 
When it comes to photography, the saying "it's not the arrow, it's the Indian" works as well....

More pixels is not always better....

Newer cameras can make life easier but good pictures can be taken with any camera... I used to take great pictures with my old 2MP Canon.

It looks like you had different lighting and you were less stable with the old pictures.

I've done some editing to both old and new pictures and see how much the results are very similar :wink:
