Thinking of acquiring a 60" cue and have questions.

I often find myself shooting a lot of shots while holding my cue at its very end with my little finger actually contacting the bumper. I am considering purchasing a 60" cue. I am only 6'1" tall but I have long arms. I feel like a longer cue would work better for me. Do you think I am a candidate for a longer cue? Do 60" cues play significantly different than a standard length cue? I would want to spend $500 or less for such a cue. I don't need fancy inlays. A plain-jane or sneaky pete would be fine but I would not be opposed to wood inlays if they came within my price range. Can anyone recommend a cuemaker who could build me a cue (or have one in stock) to my specs without having to be on a l-o-n-g waiting list?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

maniac, for what is it worth I have played with a 60" cue for years but due to hard times a year or so ago I was forced to sell them (sadly). My new cue is a 58" mottey and I miss the extra 2". I am only 5'10" tall but when you have to reach across a full size table it is really nice. I still find myself reaching for the back of the cue that is not there on realy long shots. If you can get a 60" I think you will love it. As far as a cue maker try Omen cues he made me a 60" years ago and it played great. Just my 2 cents, Joe

Chris Bartram is only 5'7" and he uses a 60" cue. He has his made a little differently however. His butt is an extra 2" at 31" and his shafts are normal length so that they aren't too whippy. He seems to do very well with it.

Dick

I would suggest you talk to Dick (rhncue) through a pm or phone call about a players cue like this they hit very good just ask Bartram, his number is at the bottom of his post.--Leonard

Mizerak played with 60 in. cues. I had a Zam yrs back that I ordered with with extra long shafts so that if I didn't like the length I could cut em back to 58'' and not have to buy new shafts.

i think anyone over 6 foot tall should seriously consider a 60 incher ...not just a longer(snooker) shaft but a longer but section and shaft
Contact Jacoby he makes 60 inchers often and probably has one to sell for 500 or less...

i do like the idea of just making then butsection longer and using a regular shaft.

I'm 6'6'' and prefer a 58'' and ok with less. 60'' is Allot of wood to move, takes a great player to tame that cue, but if you can then the cue can work the white ball even more than a shorter cue.

wow....i bet you look awkward shooting....thats the reason i say what i did....taller guys look very awkward and there strokes look like they might suffer from the short cue. IMO....

im 5' 9 and i dont like a 60 inch cue either....it feels clumsy to me.
the 60 should be tapered different than a 58 possibly

Hace you checked with Jacoby to see if they have an extention for your current cue? My Athena came with an extention. I shoot on mainly 7 foot tables, so I haven't used it much, plus I am only 5'7" tall. Anyway, just a thought.

I'm only 5'-8", but I prefer a 59"-60" cue.

Larry (63Kcode) from above would have a good cue for you to try. 972-529-8087

Paul Sumrall of S&S cues would be good to contact for your price range and could get one within a month for you. 806-778-1957

James Hanshew makes a great 60" cue and should have some ready to go in your price range. 254-498-1941

All of these guys would give you a lot of cue for the money!

If you saw Island Dave's stroke you wouldn't say that.
He's not just a good player, he's a great player.
Nothing "awkward" about it.

I'll put my money on "Island Dave" using his 3-point Kikel
against you and your Jacoby or whatever cue you use.

Just a note, 60 inch cues are harder to sell.

I am 5 foot 8 inches and play with a 57" JW cue.

Go figure.

thats fine....i dont know what your getting at.

i dont use a jacoby...but i know he makes 60 inchers at a reasonable price and probably has a few in stock for under $500
it was a suggestion to the origional poster.

how do you know im not a champion myself?
...you might know who i am?
i might know you???
you might make a bad bet????

i still never seen a 6'6 guy that doesnt look awkward and hindered by a 58 inch cue....and thats even ignoring the fact that they have to crouch down like they are on a surf board when shooting...it looks awkward. i wasnt nocking the guys game, that would be ignorant.

Call up Ron Kilby I just got a 60" SP from him today in the mail. Great price and fairly quick turnaround time. Headed in to the pool hall to try it out in a few. I believe he is held in high regards in custom carom cue circles, very nice and knowledgeable man.

I have no idea who you are and have no intention of getting into it over who's the better player.
I do know that "Island Dave" not his real name, is a champion, and I would put my money on him.

He's very smooth and interesting to watch,
Hard to tell he stands 6' 6" while he's playing.
There's no reason to say he must look "awkward" until you've seen him play.
Bill was just trying to help and make comments, same as you.

You can find people of any height who simply have bad form. I have seen alot of tall players who have great strokes and stances using standard length cues.

Try finding out how long of a cue Scott Tollefson uses, Erik Hjorleifson, those guys don't exactly look awkward.

Dan Janes made me a plain Jane wrapless 60" cue for $300. Plays great, took less than 3 months, and he included a soft case and joint protectors at no extra charge. Cue hits great.

Jim Eales

I am 5'10" and play with a 58", but I have had two 59" cues. A Coker sneaky and a Perry Weston. Both cues played great. I really liked the Weston because the flare at the end of the butt helped on long stretches. If you do end up getting a 60" cue made for you, you might want to look at having the joint a little thicker and the butt just a hair thinner, if you do the cue in equal parts.
