Don Mackey?

Someone just baseball bat this guy into a pile of mush already so that instead of it making people mad thinking about him, people can smile that he FINALLY got his ass kicked.

Let justice be served.

daveb...It has been answered before...by me and others. After Mackey won the lawsuit, he stole the $$$ and bought a big house on a golf course in FL. As far as I know, he's still there.

The intial question gets posted periodically and I don't believe it is ever answered. Where is he now and what is he doing? Anyone know?

this is to let you know how tough this guy is.I totally forgot where this happened and all the other details. One time a gunman broke into his room in a multi storied fancy hotel.he dove thru the glass window and landed on the ground unhurt by the jump or the gunman.Mind u, he is 6 feet 5 or 6 inches tall and more than 270 lbs.

That would be the Oak Hills Golf Course in Spring Hill. www.whitepages.com is your friend.

he never had negative feelings towards you.At that time( early-mid 90s ) he did express respect for you.PBT office was located in spring Hill and I think he bought the house on the Golf course even before that check from RJR.

I disagree Vag. He killed pro pool for the men! And lined his own pockets in the process.

Jay,
Let us get serious for fairness. When you work as a tournament director at the big events do you work for free? Not even one player talked about providing remuneration for his (Don`s ) services but everybody says that he stole the money.do u that all that time he was the commissioner of pro Billiards tour he was not paid any salary?.How do you think he will be able to pay his Bills? was he supposed to be a slave to pro pool and was he required to work for free? do u know how many hours his wife Diane worked to maintain the PBTA office. Diane worked harder than any one I know in that business.NOT EVEN one player talked about paying salary to his work. But everybody said that he stole the money. That was not right.Didn`the players tried to free load on mackey`s sweat? As I said earlier I did not like every thing he did but let us be fair to him.

Well, yes. A little time on google and such shows the house in Spring Hill was purchased on October 13, 1995 while the lawsuit (PBTA v. RJR) was filed in U.S. District Court on May 6, 1998. As I recall the lawsuit was not settled for at least a year.

But what happened to the money from the settlement, which was said to be $800,000? At that time, I believe there was still $400,000 missing from PBTA prize fund payments, and I believe the players never received payment.

SHH Bob, you're not supposed to ask about that. These guys were paid in "stock" in World Team Billiards.

And you don't think he got paid?? Really, I though you were a little bit smarter than that. The players paid association fees every year to the PBT and a surcharge on every entry fee for each tournament was also collected. In his final year in charge, he kept all the entry fees plus the gate at the last five events on the Camel Tour. There were also several industry sponsors who gave money to the PBT that year, to the tune of several thousand dollars per event (and in precious years also). NO prize money was paid out from those last five events and the players were left holding the bag.

Then there was World Team Billiards that was shown internationally on television. All the rights fees went to the PBT (aka DM). The players were paid in stock! HELLO! Plus the trading cards, autographed pool balls, shirts, hats and other assorted paraphernalia. Ask some of the players from that era what their cut was. And of course there was the aforementioned Balloon payment at the end from RJ Reynolds. 600+K!

That is what exactly I am talking about.Everybody is talking about how he misappropriated the funds/mony etc. he might have done that and God only knows it.what is he supposed to do?Can anybody show me an official letter showing that Don Makey will be paid so much money for his annual salary? No such thing,my friend.Do you know who maintained the Books? I know who maintained the books. you can ask the book keeper whether Don received any money in the form of salary.( If u call me I will let u know privately who the book keeper was ).Don also traveled in first class but it was the work of Diane who got his tickets upgraded to first class.Don was never been paid any salary.I repeat the same question: was don supposed to be a slave and work for nothing.was his wife supposed to manage the office without any salary? Did any player ever think of paying Don`s salary? Didn`t the players not want to free load on don`s sweat?
PS: I am not saying Don is a saint.I am talking about fairness and balance.

Bob,I repeat.he had respect for you. I never heard him say anything uncomplimentary about you.Don`s main fight was with BCA & ESPN and disagreements with WPA. Talks with the WPA( I forgot that European guy`s name) failed because Don felt US pro pool was not gettiing a fair deal.He really wanted to protect the pro pool and pro player.

Ravi...I like you, but I do not get why you care about Don Mackey. He was a scumbag, who screwed pro poolplayers, for his own benefit. That is not deniable. As Bob Jewett said..."Show me the money!" Do you think Don was entitled to $800K in "back wages"? Surely not...

what ever happened to Don Mackey? he was suppose to save the pro tour back in the 90's

I cant say I know or care where he is. He was a wanna-be thug and ruined mens pool in my opinion. After reading this thread, I see Im not alone. Hope he stays far FAR away, its bad enough as it is now.

Voo

the more i read this it really sounds bad, no wonder the mens pool never moved onto the next level. the guy stuck it to the players like that and did nothing to try and right it, what a peice of sh$t. the players should have sued him..but i always say you will pay for your misdeeds someday.

i can see i wouldn't have Vagabond guy run any tour either. were you one of mackey's boys? cause it sounds like it. i can't beleive you defend him with all thats written about him in this thread

He stuck his finger right in ESPN's nose, too. My way or the highway with ESPN? Please...
The guy was a pariah.
