I am fairly new to the custom cue market. I have played mostly production cues like Schon and Joss most of my life. I am interested in having a cue new custom cue made. I would love to have an original Balabushka but unfortunately I don’t have a disposable 25K lying around. I had a chance to hit an original Balabushka once and all I can say is it was love at first strike. Tascarella from everything I have read is probably the closest modern link to the old master, but which modern custom cue plays like an original Balabushka? Since joining this forum I have found all members to be very honest and helpful. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No matter what your not going to get a great hitting perfectly constructed cue for cheap....any good cue maker can make a buska style cue to specs but it'll be well over $500 i'll put it to you that way.
You could go with Timmy Scruggs and pay b/t 1/2k$ or go get a Pete Tascarella for 1.5k-3k.....I'd talk to someone that owns a buska (maybe you could find the one you used) and weigh it, find the balance....use a micrometer to measuer the diameter of the cue from tip to butt and give that to a good cue maker and say build it. I don't see you paying no less than $7-800 bucks for a cue in that category.

You can't beat a Schon, or a Joss, or any of the other production cues that are available.
As to a custom cue, purchase or borrow a 'Blue Book of Cues' and check out the list of active cue makers. Anyone of them can build you exactly what you want.

You might also consider attending one of the large tourneys in the surrounding states and you could easily find the cue you seek from one of the used cue stick vendors + you can hit balls. Joe Salazar was out and about for many years don't know if he still is, plus with the DCC event just around the corneri in your neck of the woods, your selection might be limitless with all the vendors there.

What are you looking to spend? I have a Verl Horn replica that hits very well and could easily be sold as a Balabushka. The owner I bought it from purchased it as a Balabushka and if you look up Horn's history he was known as one of the top replica makers. PM me if you are interested. I have a couple of other possibilities that may work for you as well.
Pete's plain four point cues are more than 2k directly from him. The wait time right now is about 4 years.

correct petes cues start ay 2400$ with a 500$ deposite before you ge on the list and anywhere from 6 months to 4 years depending on whats in the works. thats if he likes you. if he doesnt lik you you prob will never get a cue... SR
Can't go wrong with a Tasc. I actually sold my Tasc hoppe cue and bought it back about a month later. I realized how good of a cue it was and felt so bad about selling it. The guys was nice enough to give it back for the same price I sold it to him for.
To the OP, you can buy a good condition Tasc plain four pointer for under $2500. You just have to look around a little.
