Is it ok to ask about a pool player?

A pool player comes into town looking for action. Am I wrong if I put his name out on these forums to see if anyone has heard of him or her?


Sorry for the confusing poll,no means its ok yes means its bad form.

It is OK for road players to keep detailed notes on local players and swap or sell them to other road players. It is also OK for a road player to be secretly steered by a local that knows everyone's speed. However it is totally unacceptable to come on the internet and want the same 411 on the road player.

One of life's little mysteries why this should be so but I have heard it enough times it must be true.

Thats funny, Ive never really thought of it that way, but it does seem to be the common way of thinking LOL.

hell no it's not bad form. if i was going to buy some stock i'd do research on that too

Assuming he or she is giving their real name...and sometimes it's not what you ask but how you ask it.....say please
 
All the older gamblers,railbirds have to come to grips with the realities of the changing culture.No unwritten code of conduct exists in pool halls anymore.Younger generation will do what they want,say what they want to say.The old hags don`t have any right to shut the mouths of others.If the old hags think they can pump the lead into knocker's ass ,the younger generation can spray paint the cars of the old hags or further knock old hag`s action by taking a picture on I phone and post it on the internet.that is the truth and the old hags have learn to live with that.

It depends:

If you plan to gamble with him, then it's just research
If someone else is planning to lose money to him and you out him, then you are wrong
If you plan to gamble with him and he has friends on AZ, then you are totally a bad guy

Now, if you are the road player:

If the guy researches you and scares away somebody you would have lost money to, then he's a good guy
If the guy researches you and scares away somebody you could have robbed, he's a bad guy
You deserve free money cause you are a hardcore road guy

Ultimately, it really only matters:

To you - whatever you think and post is right, everyone that agrees with you is right, and whoever disagrees is an idiot, regardless of your perspective.....make sense???

I see this as an inevitable change brought on by the internet. I think the prevailing attitude now is, it doesn't hurt to ask, but there may be issues about telling.

When it first started happening here years ago, there was a different attitude. People talked about knocking action, etc. You don't see that as much now.

With the internet and cell phones, there really no "secret" road players any longer. I am sure there are a few that nobody knows and there will always be a few that go unoticed. But with pool rooms closing across the country, struggling economy and todays communication devices, the reality is a real top notch "road player" will always be known. Nickle and dime money goes unchecked, but big dollar action gets noticed... There are so many good pool players in the US, but sooo little money to be made in most pool rooms... 25 years ago, nobody had cell phones with text messaging, cameras and internet access...This is 2010 mister!!
