Quarter sawn sugar maple

 Did anyone actually read this? He explained Himself pretty well.
I would have thought a reasonable person may have said something like;" O.K sounds interesting I'd take a look. See ya there."

Or..." O.K, I'll have to see it, since you very clearly said " haven't figured out the picture thing yet", But the price's may need some adjusting if you want to make a sale.

Considering the basic tone of the thread, I feel he's done well to stay patient and civil until he can show you all what he has at V.F.
Especially for a logger! I should know, I was one for many years. ;)

AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY OPINION!... Please let me know what it should be, so that i can change it immediately. :grin-square:

TAP TAP. All I see here is a witch hunt. It's shameful. The guy hasn't fouled anybody or tried scamming anybody. But he's catching 3 shades of hell. Just to be clear, the guy is offering air dried, quarter sawn, slow growth, cherry picked straight grain wood. And he's getting trampled like a gypsy selling drugs to kids. I gotta admit i'm scratching my head on this one. This is exactly the stuff everybody claims doesn't exist anymore.

I purposely did not go to the for sale section , because I am not prepared for that right now. I got pressured for pic's ' prices, sizes , etc.......and condemmed for being computer illiterate............tx for putting things in perspective Jay.................Reid

Last night it felt like I got run over by a mac truck.......lol............tx for seeing the situation the way it is, and tryin to clear the air.........I appreciate it...................Reid

I agree with this idea. The group has jumped on the OP fairly well, and I understand both sides, but the real test is what do the respected makers think of the wood. Sugar Maple, send a PM to some of these makers (email Eric), get their shipping address, and send them a sample or two of what you consider your best shaft wood. If they like it I assure you they will come back here and say so, and your credibility would improve imo.

Dave <-- just trying to help a fellow Canuk

Tx Dave As I stated , there is only a few pieces of the 30-40gpi, and 60 pieces in total of the quarter sawn. Not really enough to send out samples. I have already talked to several cuemakers about sending samples of flat sawn , kiln dried, which is much more available.................tx again to my fellow canuck!

This is WAY too much drama over just 60 sticks of shaft wood . . .

Eric I'm glad you said something. I found myself scratching my head wondering what I missed here. This is exactly why I go the PM route instead of posting things. It's not worth the aggrivation. This may be the largest READ only pool forum in the world because not a whole lot of people want to participate in threads like this.

I PMed him & still haven't gotten any info from him. Has anyone heard from him?...JER

There is an option burried in the user config here that pops up a notification when you receive a PM rather than requiring you to look up at the unread PM count in the upper right of the screen. I find this very helpful, and think it should be a default, but a new user probably hasn't found and activated this option. I.e., it's possible that he has PMs and just hasn't noticed them.

I used his Hotmail address and received 2 replies but no list of available squares or prices.
I'll probably just order a sample pack from that place in eastern Canada where they speak a different language.
Call em, send money, package comes to my door, done deal. Start cutting shafts before the end of the world in 2012.

I had no idea what i was jumping into........lol.......I am working till dark everyday, cutting wood for upcoming spring rush............50 private messages came over night. I have used all my lunchours and evenings to try and keep up.Quite overwhelming. If i missed anybody, my apologies........tx to the gentleman that are comunicating in private............much less drama.

On a different note Dave, that Huebler thats going to be celebrating 40 yrs soon came out very nice. A couple of coats of poly, wrap came out great.
Dark, shaft wood, looking forward to hitting a few balls with it.

I am a bit concerned about buying shaft wood that is air dried.
Is it stable?
Would I need to let it sit for years before cutting?
Anyone used air dried maple for shafts before?

i have some air dried shafts and they are fine and as stable as any other shafts i have.they are a little dark but they play well.

if these have been sitting in 1" squares for 8 years as the OP says then they are good to go.

Air dry

Air drying is fine provided it is done correctly. We call it... seasoning the wood....After being air dried that long the wood will be very stable....Easy to work with...

At the risk of putting myself on the chopping block. While I have only been building cues for a couple of years, I have worked with domestic hardwoods for a long time in the cabinet industry, in perticular maple. Correct me if I am wrong but wouldnt air dried maple have less internal stress from drying than kiln dried?

Hi Reid,

Welcome to AZ :)!! Can't believe it's been 3-4 years now since we last spoke. Looking forward to the sample that you will be bringing down to Valley forge. If you need any help with AZ stuff.....just sent me an email.

Regards,
Duc.
