Smoking during a match???!!!!

We have bylaws!!!

Actually, Rule 15.2.6 has the "no throwing a dead chicken at your opponent" clause in it.

Yeah, here in New Orleans, our bylaws state that it isn't allowed, unless it is Fried!!!!

And it must be Spicy Popeye's chicken.

quit hating on smokers!!!!! :D

for me, if some goof wants the distraction of smoke when he's shooting, i let him have it. if ashes fall on the table, id just ask the person to clean them up.

Oh no way, no hating here. Well except it's Shaq, Kobe, Mark Cuban. Oh sorry that's beside the point :D. But for reals it wasn't personal at all just the principle. I mean hell I smoke too, just not cig or cigars though! Lol! ;) :o :boring2:

I'm amazed that it isn't standard practice NOT to smoke at the table. I'm a smoker but I'd kick someone's ass for dangling a cigarette out of their mouth while shooting. I wouldn't have been as nice as you by "asking" him if he "minded" not smoking at the table. I would have said straight up "Get that fkkin' cigar away from the table. I don't care if you smoke, smoke all you want, but don't even begin to chance burning a hole in this cloth."
MULLY
dat's da way I roll

P.S. Smoking is not allowed while you're at the table here in Japan. I've literally snatched cigarettes out of people's mouths and stomped them out on the floor while giving them the high hard one about smoking over the table.

My home town just adopted a smoking ban in all casinos, bars, and pool halls. In my opinion, this was far overdue. Nevertheless, I am incredibly glad that when league rolls around in September, I will be able to breathe while I shoot for a change. Who knows what the extra oxygen will do for my game?! :p

Craig...As a room owner, wouldn't you object to someone smoking over the table...be it a cigarette or cigar? I would think if ashes dropped on the cloth, it would certainly make it filthy, if not the distinct possibility of a burn hole. I can't believe there is any room owner who not object to this, but I could be wrong.

Even if its not specifically in the rules, there should be some clause about unsportsmanlike conduct. I am sure there might not be a rule about throwing a dead chicken at anyone....but would you be allowed to do it?

I think if this guy would have gotten under my skin...I would have told him...we can do this the easy way, or the hard way....keep the ashes off the table, or I'll make you pay.

Actually, here in Japan, if you smoke over the table and burn a hole in the cloth you have to pay to have the table re-clothed.

as it should be

Crass, just crass.

Can you imagine what this guy's couch at home looks like? Nothing worse than a sloppy smoker except maybe the smell of shit and cigarette. I mean seriously does it take so much effort to pinch a loaf that you need a smoke break while you're stewing in your own shit smell???

It is common to see smokers trying to shoot with a cig in their mouth, smoke swirling into their eyes and a long ash hanging from it. They think that they are impressing someone. They are usually the same type that as soon as they sit down will throw their keys, pack of cigs, and some change on the bar to show everyone what they own.

When the smoke starts to really interfere with their line of vision they will also lay the cig on the rail (reason for all of those burns) and then pick it up and put it into their mouth. They may as well lick the rail but they probably believe in that 15 second rule.

Guilty as charged, except for smoking while shooting part and throwing change part. I keep my money close to me.

In tourneys, there should be a set amount of break time per match.

All the rooms around here are non-smoking, so I glad I am not smoking and gambling these days!

Hazey billiards

A room that allows smoking over tables is unenlightened.
They probably allow sitting on them too.

As for the dead chicken rule...it's covered under 'fowls'

Of course I object to it. Problem is, how far do you take it? If you have a regular in the middle of a $500 set do you keep after him? Do you throw them out? If I had to enforce all our rules 100% I would lose about 50% of our business. In this economy, its not an option...and all my regulars know this. :(

> I do smoke, and have been lucky in that all of the places I play at regularly still allow it,BUT I'd be willing to quit smoking if a nice room with 9' foot tables opened here.

I have 2 pet peeves about other smokers that play pool though, and I can have these because I've never done either of these.

I've NEVER gone to the table with a cig in my hand, not even once. I'm too busy trying to win for that. The ones that do have 2 subcategories.

Ones that place their cig on the table to shoot, and those that shoot with it in their mouth.

We even have a local guy that shoots with his in his grip hand. I don't mind him much, cause he almost never runs out.

My only exception to this was a road player named Tony Miller that last I heard was in the SC area. He would have a cig in his grip hand, with over an inch long ash, break the balls, and still not lose the ash. Tommy D.

Smoking while playing

I used to play a guy from Chesterton, Indiana in the middle 70's through the early 80's and he always had a cigarette hang from his mouth. The cherry always got down where I was sure he was going to burn his lips, but it never happened in all those years. Good player too!

That's sad... Where are the manners. Pool hall is a heaven to us. Good and FAIR owners are hard to find. This harsh reality makes me sad.:(

Hook Em'

I am an avid cigar smoker; and you have to have some courtesy for people around you. As a captain of an APA team, there are times where i am regulated to sitting by myself because of my choice of cigars...especially those grape sweets they seem to give out at FE...

but smoking at the table is a big no no...ash is hot and can wreck havoc on the felt...

You should have told the bar manager and i am sure they would have put a stop to it...

Your home town adopted a smoking ban? Isn't the whole state of Minnesota no smoking in public places? I agree though the smoking ban is going through Wisconsin this summer and it will be so nice shooting league next year.
