Why is chalk square when pool cue shafts and tips are round?

Wouldn't it make more sense if the chalk cube were made round?

So it won't roll off the rail when you put it down???

Steve

If you set it down on its bottom (like I think you're supposed to), it won't roll off.

HEY. Round Chalk would also FORCE everyone to put the chalk back on the rail on its botton ..... Like it's supposed to be done!

Do I have an entreprenurial idea here ???????

But it would not fit in all the chalk holders that are already on the market.:smile:

if you mean the whole cube is now a ball, obviously it rolls off. If it's still a cube but one side is round... they put a round indentation in it that gives you just enough curve to get on the tip without having to angle it. If you make it rounder and more "cored" it gets all over the ferrule. It's at its most perfect when it's just a little round on one side.

If it were round bulging OUTWARD that would make no sense. Then you're trying to cover the round tip surface with a surface that is mostly angled away from the tip.

while occasionally a hundred year old idea gets improved, I think this one's locked down pretty well.

So the body of the chalk would be round, but with a flattened bottom so it would sit? Am I the only one who is convinced he would drop his chalk about 40 times per match if it were round?

Nice idea and for good reasons but I hope it doesn't catch on.
I like the square chalk especially chalk that is pretty well worn down. For me the corners of a used chalk is what I like. A new cube doesn't do it for me. Give me one that has been used quite a bit. Am I alone with this?

Why can't you get snot out of corduroy? It's one of those enigma things. A mystery wrapped in a riddle.

...or why cant the tips be made of chalk that way you would'nt need to apply chalk coz its already made of chalk duh :bash:

Instead of racking the balls on the footspot, why don't we start with them all in the pockets. Then we don't need to bother shooting them in!

you got to scuff it with a toothbrush or a brass brush just like suede...don't ask how I know...i just know.

If chalk were round it would be harder to label IMOP which would drive up the cost, its easier to produce the label for a square piece. Just makes sense to me.

What would be better if there was a magical tip that never needed chalk that worked just the same. Like the beach boys said....

"wouldn't that be nice",

The jerks that set it upside down will still be able to do the same even though it is round.

Alright, y'all got me thinking. We all have heard of CTS, and tennis elbow. Maybe we need to come up with ergonomically designed chalk to prevent the proliferation of "chalk thumb"!

:D:D:D
