LOL Sigel OUT OF HIS MIND!!!

Mike Sigel Cues vs Dale Perry Cues

Now there's a match that would be tough to pick a winner! Both of these cue makers say their cues are worth thousands.

Maybe the problem with the value of Sigel cues is the fact that there are signed Mike Sigel imports that aren't worth anything, being sold on Ebay at the same time you see a $2500.00 Mike Sigel custom cue. I've seen people pay as much as $600.00 for those George Balabushka imports, and some of the Mike Sigel customs have a starting bid of $500.00 with a reserve. It could be confusing to know what you are really getting, especially with the scams on Ebay.

The difference is Mike custom cues are hand signed on the butt and the imports have his signature on the forearm and an S logo on the buttcap.

I know of at least 2 guys that thinks Mike has never made a stick. This pool hall acquaintance told me his close relative, a stickmaker (not trying to out the guy) was in Mike's shop and in his opinion, no cues were being made there. No sawdust, hanging shafts etc.

I would say it's 50/50 so this is just food for thought-No facts here. My buddy and his relative could both be off on this.

God love him. He's so full of himself it makes you giggle. I was at the expo in Vegas back in '99 or so and was standing just outside his booth doing something and some guy walked up and Mike called him over and (creating a name here because I don't remember the guys name) "Hey, Bob, come over here and look at these cues I made. I make cues better than I play, and I'm one of the best" I actually laughed out loud and he looked at me like I was a fkkin' idiot. HA!!! I don't dislike Mike Sigel at all, but I think he's so arrogant that I probably wouldn't be able to spend too much time around him without telling him off.

When I first started playing pool back in the early-mid 80's my uncle gave me a VHS instructional video. It had 4 players on it Sigel, Rempe, Liscotti, and Jimmy Mataya. The whole thing was set up like a tournament in Tahoe or some crap like that and these guys were showing different shots and safeties etc... At that time I thought Sigel was the coolest thing I'd ever seen and I was an instant fan. Over the years I learned more about him as a person and have come to the conclusion that he's a douchebag. But, with that said, I still admire him in a way, and always will. He was my first pool hero. I enjoy watching him.....and I actually get a kick out of listening to him go on about himself. Usually people like that piss me right off, but for some reason I'm humored by his ego.

my wife can't stand him

This is an untrue rumor. Mike spent years working and learning in Danny Janes shop. He definitely did make his own line of cues before coming out with the import line bearing his name. I suspect he only made a few hundred high end cues in his lifetime. If that.

Wow memories.......

Man, I totally forgot about that video, I have it somewhere in a closet. It seemed like a tourney, and I think they talked about $10,000 was on the line or something. But looking back it seemed staged. I remember watching it and rooting for Liscotti because he seemed like a normal kind of guy, and he was older than the rest. Liscotti won it didn't he??? Somebody made a tough bank? Or a cut?

Gunna dig up that video, oh shi*t, do I still own a VCR????

The video was made by Blair Key of Key Media Productions. This video and several others were shot in Aspen, CO. Blair was the first to mass market pool videos. He ran commercials on ESPN (with an 800 number) during the airing of pool tournaments, and his videos sold like crazy.

I don't know about half, but Mike did make several cues for Trudough over the years. KT even ran 200 balls with one of them, at least according to him he did. When he made that statement at Hard Times, someone else commented, "Yeah, he ran 200, five at a time." They said it loud enough for the braggart to hear too. He shut up after that.

"200, five at a time!" HA!!! That is fantastic!

As a side note, even if he did run 200 balls it wasn't because of the cue.

A friend and I were at Mikes booth during the BCA in Vegas about 6 years ago when another friend came up sporting the new Scruggs that he had just traded for. Mike asked my friend what he had, and my friend showed him his new cue. Mike commented to my friend "If you wanted a great cue, you should have come to see me". My friends response was, " Do you have some Tim Scrugg cues for sale?" The look on Sigels face was priceless.

Seems like I remember Liscotti being hooked and he kicked the ball in and was hooked on the next ball and he kicked it in as well. Mataya remaked that a good player doesn't need shape. Haven't seen that in forever.

Just wait for hyperinflation....

Once the hyperinflation kicks in, his cues might be worth 10k US...

Of course it'll cost you 20k for a loaf of bread....

I use a Joss, which is the same brand of cue he won all those world titles with. And, seeing as he learned to make cues from Dan Janes, I guess I'm playing with a "pre-Sigel" Mike Sigel custom cue.

Oh, and Dan Janes IS a modest cuemaker (with 40 years experience).

Here is a funny story.

One year Mike's booth at the SBE was near the front and he had a crowd gathered around as he was telling about his career and how good his cues are.

One particular moment Mike says something like, 'I won more world titles than anyone living' and from the back of the crowd comes a loud voice and says, "and what brand of cue were you using when you won all those titles?"

The person asking was Bob Meucci. The answer being Meucci Cues.

That answer of course did not come from Mike Sigel at that moment.

Personally I find it humorous that he has to resort to "blowing his horn" so loud. Look at the great cue makers of today...Southwest, richard black, Scruggs, and so on and so on. They dont have to say anything, there cues speak for themselves.

I've found that once cues are stamped out in a factory, the quality suffers and whatever the cue maker makes themselves, doesnt command as much value. SOOO 10k ? I mean Really !

Come on guy's, Mike is like many others right here on this forum when it comes to Blowing his own Horn!!:D The funny thing about that is those people who have this problem can't see the forest through the tree's and they have no idea how it makes them look. It also seems that many people who have this problem have done great things at some point in their life, but they are very insecure and just can't seem to ever do enough to satisfy themselves. It is real kinda sad when you think about, going through life and setting your goals so high that it is impossible to ever reach them. Most people like this end up being bitter and blaming those around them for their failure so they are just not that much fun to be around, so they end up alone feeling like a failure!!!!!!:(

It is really really sad, but it is also life!!!!
