I'm gonna do the observation bullet point thing like mlollercopter. It's easier when it's 6 am and mister sun is drilling my eyeballs.

- Daz is a DEMON at kicking. Seriously, he is the white efren. He prolly missed less than 5 the whole set.

- I think his safes are better too. Bartram's safes usually leave 1 rail routes and on several occasions if the ball lies on the short rail or near the hole, daz kicked it right in (catching the short rail first) with the right speed to play shape on the next ball. Sick.

- Bartram's 10b break is really good. He's been working on it and it shows. I dunno if I'd compare it to shane's but it's more than solid. For a while there it seemed like a ball went for him like 80%+ of the time. Daz's wasn't working at all and it was killing him.

- There was a lil friendly squabbling between Shane and Wong, as shane suggested Darren switch sides ("just try it once") and Darren made a ball. But I think he didn't stick with it or started coming up dry again.

- 1st 50 took ~13 hours but the last 50 took 15. As the pressure mounted you could see players thinking longer and on marginal shots, chris especially would pop up off his cue 2 or 3 times. It would take so long that if someone got hooked I could go read forum posts or something for the next 10 minutes.

- Chris really does seem to win by outgrinding 'em. Daz blew a critical wide open out very late in the match, every ball was a foot apart. I know he'd have run it perfectly when he's fresh. Then chris showed his own signs of fatigue by playing a safe that send whitey straight into the corner pocket. With ball in hand and a handful of open balls, daz fell funny on the 10 and rattled a ball he normally makes.

- Chris was down 12 at one point, and ended the day -11. Daz looked like he couldn't miss. Then today chris had a monster comeback and daz seemed to go to sleep a bit. Then Daz mounted his own mini-comeback. The swing at one point was 17-18 games.

- The spot didn't seem to matter when daz was running out every rack yesterday. But in the final games with a close score, it came up a lot... three times Bartram had some early gamewinning balls (2 8's and a 10 I believe).

- The live stream experience just ain't the same without chat and video in the same window. I found a way to fudge it but I'm hoping TAR can find a way to make it work for everyone. People didn't seem as enthused about this and even with a close match they were talking about other stuff in the chatroom. I may just wait for the DVD next time.

- On the other hand, these long sets are nice cuz you can watch your PPV at work and as long as the score isn't 90-something, you can just leave it and come back and not worry about missing games.

- Dippy dave is just a total go-off artist. He's been giving shane, corey, rodney, stevie and others goofy games with massive spots. I believe I heard 19-6 in one pocket or something? lol. I think it'd be a good idea to ask this guy to fund a pro event or tour. He loves pool and hates money.

- Nice having random guest commentary, shane threw in his 2 cents and woofed at donny (who was in chat) a little. One possibility was they do their RYO 9b race again but shane must break hard every game, with the iphone break speed app enforcing a 22 mph minimum. Shane said he'll do it if they use the magic rack, which shane apparently likes. Donny says he needs to say it. Donny almost woofed himself into a corner with one idea where he plays shane even 10b as long as shane breaks from the corner. I dunno about that one.

- Shane: "I always bet my own money." Wong: "Even against Donny?" Shane: "Always means most of the time." Jcin liked that.

- Brittany Bryant also showed up. I didn't recognize the name but now I do, she's a 19yo female prodigy. She got the expected harrassment a 19 year old female pool player gets surrounded by fat middle aged white guys (Wong excepted of course. He's asian). She handled it well. She's got some gamble! She wanted to play the winner of borana vs omgwtf and is apparently waiting on a reply from borana.

- For a while there it was like I was controlling the jukebox, but later a lot of the music was so sucky it woulda sharked me.

- Jcin's the man for handling this on his own. It gets lonely in the booth sometimes, right? ;D

Okay, it's time to sleep.

Outstanding wrap up CreeDo.

Hate to say it, but the bottom line was - as usual - heart. Not that Daz doesn't have heart - he does - tons of it. But to come back like that, Chris's heart is huge. He knew he had to apply the heat to win.

One more observation - Chris is a slow starter and I think that is why he prefers long races and doesn't like tournaments.

You could slowly see him adapt to the table, the lights, atmosphere, ball speed, etc. as time went on, his safety play kept getting more precise, to the point where he was out safeing Darren (who is a phenom) at the end.

Betting against Bartram in a long race is hazardous to your financial health.

You're not kidding. When Chris was 12 down there was all the usual chatroom woofing... "The window is open! Who still likes chris? Bet whatever!" ...betting on pool in general seems like a crapshoot. On the other hand I don't have much gamble.

It's hard sometimes to pinpoint why a lead like that might build up. I'd hate to go to bed staring at that kind of deficit. But somehow it went away the next day. Maybe the 13 hours on day 1 had daz tired on day 2. Or it coulda just been as you said, chris is blowing it at the start but stops missing as the match grinds on.

I really had a blast watching the stream. I'm a Bartrum fan but I made a silly mistake and bet on Daz. Whoops. The chat experience is really amazing. Listening to SVB commentate was the highlight for me. Wong told him he would buy him dinner if he wins his bet and Shane said, "Let me ask you this: Are you gay?" This after Wong had been ribbing Shane big time. Also Shane is the best ever at predicting the right shot when no one else can see it!!!!

Great write-up CreeDo. My additions:

Chris Bartrum is a great pool player. Sofaking solid. Came with it in the clutch so many times when Daz was making a comeback.

After watching Chris play for 28 hours, I would suggest a new nickname for him: Tiny Prancer. :D

I started rooting for Daz once I realized what a douche that wong guy is. I'll lay 50-1 he wouldn't tell Dennis Hatch to 'choke on a d*ck and die'. There were some funny things said during that exchange, but seriously, I was white-knuckling it when he was talking to Shane that way. Shane took it like a man, realized he probably shouldn't have said anything to Daz, but afterall he can't actually break for him. Wong went from degenerate smart ass to columbus-ghetto-hoodrat in one Daz break. Can't imagine what would have happened if Daz put a 5-pack at that point. Why do I care about some non-playing backers comments on the stream? I was forced to listen to them, because I wanted to hear what the best player in the world had to say about the game. Grrrrrrr.

You are dead on here. That shot on the two (I think) where everyone thought Daz would bank it was amazing. I think even Darren himself was thinking he would bank it, but Shane was cool and said "the shot here is thin it and two rails behind the ten."

What do you know, after some deliberating, Daz hit it exactly as Shane layed out. He really is that good. Along with the Bart come back, the best part of the night was SVB and Donnie woofing back and forth. I was laughing my ass off. When Donnie gave that "sigh" of relief after Shane declined the even ten ball break from the rail, I was on the floor.

Great match and great chat room. Hope TAR can come with another one soon. I can't wait to sweat it. Thanks again Bart, Daz, and Justin for coming with another one!!!

It was a great match up. Very close all the way through. Bartram showed heart to GET THE CASH like the sticker on his back said.

DAZ really did play great though. Just has no break. I've never seen someone kicksafe that well for that long. He really controlled the balls on kick shots.

Thanks TAR for grinding it out as well. hkwong and Shane on the mic was very funny and JCIN as always was great.

Shane finally caught a gear at the end of the US Open 10 ball, and I think he came in 3rd. His last match was a hearbreaker. Anyway, it was funny to hear him talk about how disappointed he was about the way he played - you would think he went two and out the way he was talking.

Shane seems like a great guy - like he would be a great friend to have.

Chris

Outstanding post Cree!

I'm buying the DVD when it comes out. And Bartam is such a grinder! All kinds of heart!
Thanks also to T.A.R.

awh your such a nice guy, thanks for the kind words. have a nice day
:)

dont sweat it, its cool either way. i dont take the forums as serious as some people do. as for shane he's a cool guy to talk to, but iam not going to idolize anyone.

Watched at POOl SHARKS

I went down and watched the match at pool sharks. It was very close at the end. Bartrum led 91- 89 and Appleton was running out and miscued on the six ball during an easy out. Instead of Appleton gaining momentum Bartrum went up 92-89 and Put up 2 more before Appleton had a good shot at the table 94-89. I think it was hard for him to recover after that swing!!! What a great match

Thank you TAR
