The "Riv"...

Riv

just got back from VNEA and they ARE moving to Balleys next year. i was also told that the Riv is going to be torn down to have a new casino built there by someone else. can anyone confirm this? i know that Mark Griffin has stated that the BCAPL isnt moving, but i was told this by a couple of vendors and several other while there last week. i also have the flyer stating next year it will be at Balleys.

A cabbie told me that in a year to two years the Riviera was scheduled to be torn down and that the BCA was moving to Balleys.

bullshooter69...Who do you think knows better...the man financially responsible for putting on an annual national pool tournament that attracts 8000+ poolplayers to the Riviera...or some itinerant cabbie? I'll bet on Mark Griffin every time! LOL

Damn, I knew I should have cashed in my players card. I had $5.21 on that sucker.;)

Tucson,
Actually, I did try to cash in my players card but I only had $11.00 on it. You can only get cash if you have $20.00 or more on it. They would allow you to cash out in slot play though. I also got a players card at Balleys for next year but the points are only good for 6 months.

The Riviera and the BCAPL

Just to clear the rumors and state the FACTS!

BCAPL still has the same contract we had two years ago - we will be at the Riviera for 2011 & 2012. The dates in 2011 are May 13-21. (9-ball challenge starts couple days earlier).

We are discussing 2013.

The Riviera is not going anywhere. The Riviera is 'not that bad' - but the food and drink choices are a little weak.

These rumors happen every year.

Now you know the truth - lets see if that spreads as fast - LOL.

Not to pick on anyone --but why take a 'rumor' and think that makes it a fact. Cabbies only repeat what they hear - it is not always accurate. How many times in last few years have I said the Riv will be there - in fact this economy is pretty much guaranteeing the Riv will be around for quite awhile.

just to get the facts straight

im not saying my sourse is 100% correct. i didnt get my info from a cabbie. this was from a couple of vendors, and a couple of people who have knowlege of the operation of the Riv. i hope it doesnt close. but i know for a fact VNEA is at Balleys next year. just saying.

BCAPL Nationals

I do not know how to say it any clearer.

The Riviera is not going anywhere.
The BCAPL Nationals will be there for 2011 and 2012.
We are discussing 2013 and further

TAP and VNEA are going to be at Bally's

ACS will be at Tropicana

Any vendor that asked me was told the exact same thing.

If anyone would like to make a $100 bet for each of the next two years please contact me.

This is discussed every year. Can we please stop it.

Rumors have a way of becoming believed and that is not good for the Riviera or the BCAPL.

And what does Starwood Capital have to say??? Who wants to run a property that consistently loses 5 mil a quarter? The ball is really in their court at this point.

i hope the Riv survives, if the fountain blue opens the Riv will be ok.

no dispect to mark but here's the facts from 5/17/10 its not old news:

The number sharply down, about 2/3th way down the article they start to talk about the Riv. I have been reading about these joints for 20 years now and known 100's of workers, one major casino owner, some saller casino owners, and have followed that market for years. With out something to wake up the north end of the strip its toast-the stratosphere was suppost too they ran out of $$$ and put construction on hold for 5 years, by then the south strip had more doors and the tower there couldnt pull enough bodies. i been a studnt ofthis chit forever-and i reallt dont know why???

I want the Riv to survive and the pool leagues, players, Mark to do good as possible, but the Riv aint what makes pool, guys like mark do and the players-Thats makes pool, so what if the Riv goes down? there's lots of space in Vegas for the same thing. Alll the Riv is a roof and A/C in basic terms that dont make pool.

The best part about the riv. is the fact that, even tho I don't gamble as much as I used to, I got a room this year for the VNEA, for 5 nites for $47.00 including taxes. That ain't too bad. To me, the Riv has become like a part of going to Vegas for the league tournies. If all works out right, I may be able to go for both the BCA and the VNEA next year. VNEA is always a little easier for me to attend, because they get out of school the last week of May.

Regardless, Mark, you've done a great job. Thanks for all you and your staff do.

Eric,

That statement my friend is the absolute truth! If the Riv goes away, Mark will find another location. It may be more expensive for the players but who knows what the future will bring in Vegas. Closings seem to be the new way of life on the strip. Oscar can only do so much to keep our fair city going.

I think the players will continue to come to Vegas. It's a vacation from where ever. Some have tried other locations. Reno, Charleston, Orlando, Louisville and others. It's not the Riv, it's the event. Period!

Another good source

Another good source of info as to what's happening in the gaming industry is The Las Vegas Sun http://www.lasvegassun.com/

I didn't know until I read an article on City Center that casinos can comp you anything they want, but food and drink can be written off. Rooms come out of the profit.

Eat until you're fat and drink until you stumble, you want a "free" room.....you better do some gambling

Strange info you have there - the most successful hotel (s) are on the north end of the strip.

watchez,

Are you refering to the downtown casino's? There is a big difference between them and what we refer to as "The Strip". "The Strip" sort of begins at the Stratoshere and ends at South Point. Some of the downtown hotels are successful. Some, like Binion's, have gone through the same process as "The Riv". Fremont Street like South Las Vegas Blvd is a tourist attraction all into itself.

Honestly, I don't care where you have the tournament, as long as I don't have to deal with the food/drink nazi's at the door and playing 6 team matches in a day until 2:15AM and have to return at 9:00AM to play another (after having an inexplicable day off).
