Most Under Rated Cue Maker

Without a doubt, Dick Neighbors, RHN Custom Cues, one of our own AZBers and my old partner. I even have a cue on order from him.

yes his cues are great.
cheap and they play good.

i have played with 1 for 10 years or so.
still do well have not played in 2 months.

WOW
What a response this has gotten. I`ll throw in a couple myself Jerry Rauenzahn, & Keith Josey. Keep those names coming. Maybe this list will help someone that does not have big $$$ to spend on a cue, find a cuemaker that fits into his or her budget but doesn`t break the bank doing it & will still get a quality built cue made for them in the long run. Thanks for all the names so far.
Jeff

amen to that. dick built me my cue about a year ago and i have not stopped singing his praises. to those of us who know his work, he is held in high regard but i just don't think alot of people know of him or give him enough credit. i am trying to save up some more dough to but another one and one for my girl.

you sent me a pm when i asked a question about dick's cues here on az and that reco was one of the big factors that led me to contact him. and you weren't the only one to tell me to give him a shout. also he built my cue for a great price. thanks for that pm chris, i know you always say illtellem and you told me.

cue maker

if you're ever in the Southern Cal or San Diego area, you need to check out Dave Whitsell, "Cues By David". One of the "best hit" cuemaker's and one who will really work with you. And if you haven't heard of him...that is how low he flys.

Troy Downey by far!!!! I would also add Mike Stacey. Just bought a Stacey, but as far as finish and hit the Downey is the best cue I've been around for the money.

I would have to say that Jim Aldren of Rapid City SD is a much underrated cue maker. His attention to detail and craftsmanship is unreal. Plus he’s a super nice guy and fun to work with.

Also Leon Sly, within the last couple months I got one of his SP and its one of the nicest cues I’ve ever played with. (Been thinking about ordering a custom from him)

Just my two cents,
Wayne

I second this post 100%. There simply is no better cue for the money, or for any money.

The first one that comes to mind is Terry McFadden.
Terry built cues for years in his pool hall here in Denver for local players, but when he teamed up with Ernie Martinez his abilities really took off.
He has since sold his pool hall, moved to Arizona, and is now a full time cue builder.
McFadden cues have a nice crisp solid hit, and he is a great guy to deal with.
I think he is underrated and underpriced.

Ted,

I want to agree with you on this. I had a chance to see that Terry McFadden cue that Greg S. (ebony nose, pink ivorywood points and sleeve) has for sale last week and it was expertly crafted. I did not get to hit any with it, but I had to imagine it was a superb player.

I'd also be inclined to think that the folks who've posted about Lee Peppers might be quite right, too. His craftsmanship, work ethic and turnaroud time seem spot-on.

I second that vote

Chris Hightower
I have owned 3 Hightower cues and they were all top notch !! One of these days I hope to get another one. Living close enough to Chris to go by and see what actually goes into making his cues is the cue collector/enthusiasts equivalent of being an art collector and going to Vincent van Gogh's studio.

Gotta be a Darrin Hill in there somewhere.

Eric your not to bad yourself. Ive watched your career take off.even when you were posting on easy-pool.

I also think Bryan Mordt BCM cues are special. Not sure why he doesn't get the recommendation's that he deserves.

Leon Sly's cues have always beet great players but of late Leon has stepped it up and is building some beautiful OLD SCHOOL traditional cues. His waiting list is also growing longer.
"country" Bob.................................................................................... Sly's custom cues 410-827-4966

Add me to the list of Jeff Olney enthusiasts.

As far as bang for the buck goes, I think he's real tough to beat. His cues play lights out, point work is superb, all finish work is impeccable, and on top of all that, he's a great guy to deal with. :)

Nice to see the positive comments about Dick Neighbors cues. I am not personally familiar with his work, never touched one, but obviously his cues have made some nice impressions.

Best,
Brian kc

I'd nominate Mike Pancerny from Metro Detroit. A perfectionist and artist that makes very good hitting cues.

+1 for Lee Peppers. He has a classic style with his cues, and his craftsmanship is fantastic. I've got one of his conversions in my case, and a custom on order.

+2 for Lee, I now have 2 of his cues, one custom built for me, truely great craftmanship.

I think the best bang of the buck is our own Ryan Theewen. Makes a cue that is named Rat cues. He sales these at Muellers. Will be my next cue, I have a friend that beats me using his. Also Ryan does some of the best repair work around. Just saying you don't have to look far or spend $1000.00 to have what some think is a super cue.
