Is it okay to mix measles ball with Centennials?

Is it okay to use a measles ball with Centennials? Will it affect how they interact with each other? Yes, I'm aware that Centennials are made by Saluc/Aramith.

Also, I have the new Aramith Tournament Pro balls, and they don't come with a measles cue ball. I'd like to use the measles cue ball with this set, but I believe it would defeat the purpose of the Aramith Tournament balls since these are a "4th generation ball," supposedly designed to help reduce table wear / felt burn... or so Aramith says.

Thoughts?

It depends on the condition of the centennials - but at the place I play, my measel ball is a hair taller than the centennials, so "technically" shots where the object ball is frozen to the rail could be an issue. although, i've never noticed any issues, if someone actually sets a ball on both sides of the measel, they'll see it's larger.

I can't think of any reason why you can't mix them together.

Why would there be a problem mixing them together?

i think the main problem is that when you buy a set, the balls in that set are matched in size/weight. if you buy a separate measles ball, it may or may not match in size/weight within reasonable tolerances. most of the time, the aramith/centennial balls are pretty close so it's OK. but you may want to weigh and caliper them to double check.

the measles and centennials are the same material, the super aramith pro resin. the tournament balls are made of a new formulation, i don't know how different it is as i've never played with it.

Measles balls, when mixed with Centennials are known to EXPLODE!:grin:...something to do with "resin flash"!

BTW...A cueball is a cueball. It doesn't make any difference...

I'm not sure if EXPLODE is exactly the right description...we could have an epidemic of mass proportions though, because the centennials have not yet been innoculated:wink:don't do it:grin:

OK to mix Measles cue ball played with Cent. balls ?

Any cue ball (if the same size as the other balls) can be mixed and used with any other ball set. However, the "Tournament" model cue ball is made of a new Duramath resin and will not show skid marks as much as all other cue balls! The biggest problem with introducing a NEW cue ball to an old set is that it IS the full 2 1/4" and the other balls (used) are somewhat less (depending on how worn they are).

Aramith some day will introduce a "Duramith" Measles cue ball that can be bought separately, but as long as the "Tournament" ball sets are new and in demand (already at a VERY expensive price), they will not do a separate Duramith cue ball...and when it does finally become available, you'd better save up your allowance, the price will put a BIG hole in your pocket !!!

The CB that came with my set of Cents is a few grams less what a ball in the set weights. The measle ball weights the same as a ball in the Cents.

ball size & weight

i have weighed and measured the measle, aramith red dot & centennial blue dot & they are the same weight & the same diameter

i used a digital scale & digital micrometer

I keep hearing about this one is light or this one is small but using quality measuring devices I can find no difference

well, maybe your set is accurate, but the balls on the table in front of me tell a different story. i assume there's a difference from use/age.
