Yes Charlies and Table Stakes/Billiards Ink are done. Last day for Table Stakes is today. They may reopen in a few months but. Very bad news. At least Tom Ross is improving.

Thx, you saved me a phone call, was headin' up to play today @ 2.
Island Drive, Have you noticed that there was a problem at Table Steaks/Billiards ink? I was told that one night they had almost a empty fridge and thought the beerwas gonna run out before the end of the night. Is this true?
I have had my problems with those guys as some may know but I still hate to see pool rooms go under. Its a shame

Does anybody know if Charlies is indeed done for good or is this just another temporary like this past summer? Really hate to see Table Steaks (Ink) go as they were really trying to make a run for making it into a 'players' room.
With both of those rooms being gone, I don't see much of a big table scene in the area unless everybody moves to Rack'em. I know there are other rooms with a few big tables, but to my knowledge none of them have a tournament that's worth a crap.
Hour drive to match ups for me?
Any info concerning Charlies would help.

Money-money-money. It could well be that the only reason my favorite hall stays open is that the owner loves the game, and has other income producing real estate that now supports the hall.

No wonder we can't bring home the cup! Everybodys afraid to play on the 'real' tables these days. I don't know about other areas, but recently here in the Colorado area, the only larger end tournaments with a decent payout are bar table tournaments. Not that I don't respect a good barbox game, but the Mosconi Cup, US Open, World 10 Ball, San Miguel tour........................................all the major events that draw international players are on 'real' (9 footers) tables.
Take "Joe" from APA against Earl in a race to 5 on a 9 footer, and he'll never win. Do the same on a bar box, and "Joe" from APA has chance.
RANT!

Sorry guys But it looks like it might be my fault:sorry:. I was at Showcase billiards and the Colorado Cue Club the week before these two businesses went belly up. Not long ago I also hung out at Billiards Ink for a day and now.....

I used to go to Paradise billiards and thought they had a good room, I have not been there since the name change (Hanks ?).

I don't want to pretend I know whats going on business wise with the Denver pool world but I think Billiards ink may have been on the right track and folded for other reasons.

Sad to hear about this.

Now I"ll have to find a new place to go to have green chili and play pool when I visit Denver.

That say a lot about NOT PUTTING all you efforts/fund in one venture.

I really liked Charlies. I would always have a sandwich or a drink there just to put money in the till. Also played in as many tournaments as I could to help support the room. I did not go to Billiards Ink on a regular basis but did play in several tournaments there and always spent money on food and drinks to help out.
So other then Hanks (38th and Sheridan)where can I go to play on 9 foot tables? I really would hate to end a 50 year run at pool as a bar table player.:angry:When is Charlies last day?

WynKoop Brewery in Denver & Rack Em in Aurora are two w/9' tables that come to mind. Also there is Bit o Billiards in Longmont and Match Up's in Fort Collins.

While I don't believe I have ever been to Match up's (Unless it is the one in Old Town) I have been to Bit O Billiards. Is the old Paradise billiards still operating? If I remember right they had a few Gold Crowns.

The drive to Fort Collins just to hit some really sucks, but I was there two Fridays ago and although their table time rate sucks, the tables were set up well. Clean balls, rag was clean, and in general the tables all looked to be in great shape.
Haven't been to the Koop since they re-clothed all the tables, but other than Melissas table, and the fact that they don't currently have a tournament schedule, I don't see much promise.
I really hate to see both of these clubs close, as this will pretty much kill competitive pool in Colorado. Lets face it, you'll have a handfull of good bar room players maybe, but this area won't produce a national caliber player without a competitive big table scene.
Still haven't given up on Charlies however. I haven't heard anything as to why their doors are closed right now. Still hoping that it's a temporary thing like the last time.
Anybody know any more than I do?

Paradise is now Hanks. The sign still says Paradise.38th and Sheridan.
they have 7 or 8 9 footers.

Bit O billiards has a few bucket Gc's and its not a pool hall. Theres no players there and NO action. not to mention its 45 mins from denver.

You mentioned th eold Paradise Billiards in your post, it is now Hanks and they have at least 6 cold crowns. And, they recently installed a 3-C table. Let me know if you're making the drive to Match Up's, I'll try to meet you there.

I will get to Match up's but not for awhile. I am still sporting a cast from my knee down:(. I hope to get into a walking cast by the end of this month. I saw pics of Match up's online tonight and it looks great. When I head that way I will give you a shout Dave, thanks. Jim.

Dave,

The rates at Match Up's are not bad: $1.50/hr/person before 3PM; $3.50/hr/person till 6PM; and $4 or $4.50/hr/person after 6PM. Not much different than others I have been to. In addition to their 8 gold crown 2s, they have 9 bar tables that they will open up for the hourly rate when leagues/tourneys are not in session. There are also people to play pretty much all games.

They have an 8-ball bar box tourney friday nights race to 2 for $8 entry fee + quarters. And, a 9-ball handicapped tourney on the 9' tables Sundays at 3PM for $10 entry fee, no additional table time. They add $100 for each.

I know it's a little far for some, but you might have a good time when there's nowhere else to play.

I agree about Bit o Billiards but if you want to play on a 9'er, they are still an option.
